I don't believe there's been a "right" way. I've tried tracking my position using the sun, but the maze is content to turn me around at every moment. I tried to freeze the branches, and they retaliated by grabbing my Arts unit and tossing it over a hedge. I only just managed to collect it again.

And, as mentioned, it blocked an attempt at climbing over, by putting a "ceiling" on that part of the maze.
