What: Resident God of Festivals has decided they need BIRTHDAY PARTIES. PLURAL. (And Eri thought it would be not niceys to make two logs, since they're like nine days apart.)

5/10 Morning

[Bright and early, the common space in the inn will become a flurry of activity, courtesy of a one Tengen Uzui. Bright, warm-colored streamers are hung from the ceiling and every corner, a table is dragged out and looks to be set up for as much food as it could possibly hold and more - and a second for any gifts one might want to bring, off in another corner. It's cozy. Bright and inviting, in the face of the horrors outside.

And then it comes to the kitchen. Maybe he knows you're a good cook (hi Senjuro). Maybe he doesn't, but he catches you making something nice for yourself. Maybe you, poor sap, see all the goings-on and ask how you can help and get recruited into decorating cookies and cupcakes, making bentos, hanging yet more streamers everywhere, setting up plates and utensils and drinks. Anyone who wants to help and is able to is more than welcome.

Outside, a safe distance away from buildings, but close enough to not be inconvenient, Tengen himself has set up a rather large fire pit. It's not doing much of anything besides create warmth, for now, but. Well. Call it decoration for the Flame Hashira, if you want, a man has plans.]

[Sometime in the mid-afternoon, once the party has been set up for the most part, a large swath of glittery text will appear in the netbooks.]



EVERYONE who wants to celebrate him (or just help eat all this food) should come to the inn sometime this afternoon/tonight!

5/10 PARTY

[So by late afternoon, thanks to any helpers (including a crow and a mouse don't worry about it), the shared space in the inn is fully decorated, the food table is overflowing, and even the bonfire outside is being put to use as Tengen dashes in and out, roasting sweet potatoes in the embers and bringing in more whenever the current ones are eaten.

The atmosphere isn't as flashy as he'd like, but it's warm, it's inviting, and it's got some level of protection from the horrors outside, given the location, so... it'll have to do.

(Here's your mingle toplevel, go wild! Also the following subheader's enchantments will apply to everyone with any weird dietary needs, Tengen is just singling out Akaza for reasons.)]

[Set aside on a plate, there will be a hefty slice of cake and several of those roasted sweet potatoes, tagged with a note that still has some glitter clinging to it:]

For Akaza. Enjoy.

[The cake will taste like... well, like cake. And the roasted sweet potatoes like roasted sweet potatoes. Because it's only right he get to share in this, too.]

[having been directly, personally invited to this is one thing. finding human food labeled as being for him is something else entirely. he recognizes the handwriting, especially given the glitter, and while he already knows tengen isn't stupid, this has akaza questioning... something about the man's brain. he carries the plate over to the fucking giant of a man and gestures with it.]

... So, what's this about?

[The direct invitation... felt better than going through Kyojuro. Telling him that Akaza was welcome was opening the door to an odd conversation or him simply... not asking him to come, in some effort to preserve peace. No, this was better. Somehow.

Questioning the offering directly, though was actually unfair? How dare? He shouldn't have to reveal his schemes like this? (As if he wouldn't be questioned, come on.)]

It's food.

[Most obvious thing in the world.]

Look, I'm not trying to get you sick, here, even I'm not that much of an ass.

[not trying to, he says, but akaza just looks at the plate and back at tengen.]

Do you really want to see what happens if I eat this? At Kyojuro's celebration, in public?

[ Under most circumstances, Sanemi would not be caught dead OR alive attending something like this. But times had changed, as had his perspective on a number of his close colleagues, so here he is. He has a wrapped bundle under his arm and everything.

Not that he is actively socializing. He’s hanging back for the time being, thanks, and sporting his best RBF. ]

[Hi grumpy! Kyojuro ambles over, food in hand. He shoves a sweet potato toward Sanemi, then loudly blurts out!]

I found a package at my doorstep this morning! Delivered by a crow! If you happened to know who sent it, I hope you will pass on my thanks. It was a very beautiful gift.

[He would be wearing it now, if he had anything formal here. He makes a note to visit Ain about this soon!]

[ Sanemi sort of bristles like he’s being attacked, but takes the sweet potato. And gives up the game nearly immediately by coloring ever so slightly. ]

How would I even know who sent it? [ A pause. He wrinkles his nose, then mumbles. ] Beautiful’s a bit much, but you’re… welcome.

[To be entirely honest, Kyojuro isn't sure how he feels about such a flashy display. Were it anyone else, he would have the time of his life. That would be especially true given the current atmosphere within the Grove. Tensions are high given the recent... infiltration. It was only fair that they cut loose.

With the attention on him, however, he cannot help but feel like this is frivolous. They should all be out making sure everyone is safe, right?

But he cannot say no to Tengen. Not normally, when he sets his mind to something like this, and certainly not now that they're partners. Certainly, some part of him is touched by it all, but it does not replace the itch beneath his skin.

No matter, Kyojuro sets to shoving his face with the food at hand. That does manage to ebb some of the lingering tension. It also helps when he sees other people and shoves food their way.]

Come now! Enjoy yourself!!

[ He can't say he's the most interested in food right now. He's got an appetite on him, but not nearly as much as Kyojuro and while he does agree that Kyojuro deserves this, another part of him is immensely restless. It's not something that shows, of course- he's too well used to masking emotion for that to come through, he just... sort of stares at the food he's given for a moment before accepting. ]

And what about you? This is your day after all.

[Indeed, Kyojuro is oblivious to whatever seems to trouble Muichiro. Instead, he flashes that beaming smile as the boy accepts his food, then reaches out to give his head a quick little pat.]

So long as my loved ones are enjoying themselves, I will be happy as well!

[And despite his own worries, he does mean that. If nothing else, he can appreciate that the others have taken time away from their restless patrolling. Even slayers needed breaks from time to time.]

[ Oh, he feels so incredibly out of his depth. He always feels so much like he's inserted himself where he's not wanted when all of the slayers are together, but he's trying to not feel like that today because being there for his brother's birthday is important to him, but if someone asks him what he's doing there he might actually combust--

He works quietly to help with the prep, he keeps to himself when the party starts, he doesn't know how to approach, bless his heart. ]

5/19 Morning

[Wait one second, didn't this idiot just do all this a few days ago? Well, yes, but this time instead of bright, warm colors, the decorations going up are soft pinks and purples, greens and blues, with floral and butterfly motifs. In fact, between pestering people to... also help cook again... he's spending all his time folding origami butterflies and flowers, too, and recruiting anyone who passes by to make at least one or two. It's easy. He'll teach you. Ignore him at your peril, you will get a paper shuriken to the head if you do. Make his daughter a flower. Do it.]

5/19 PARTY

[Just like for Kyojuro's party, the common space in the inn is fully decorated, there's food in abundance, and, perhaps more suited to the guest of honor this time, the vibe is a little more subdued. Still, she also has a little gift table, and a little case of Ramune, which will be fiercely guarded until she has a chance to have some - and will only be shared with those she approves of. It's her birthday, she's allowed.

Regardless, it's just as inviting, just as safe, and sure to be a bit of a break from the horrors, if nothing else.

[ Are you allowed to avoid your own party. Is that allowed.

Kanao might have regained her ability to feel and think for herself, but it wasn’t as though that had entirely cured her less sociable tendencies. But… she’s here! For her own party! Something she might have wholeheartedly avoided in the past. But there has clearly been no effort spared, so she sits near the gift table and tries not to. Implode.

She is also wearing the glitzy eyepatch Tengen made for her. She had strained her eyes quite a bit given the recent horrors, and it proved a nice way of wordlessly showing she appreciated his gift. ]

[Personally, Genya thinks it's very allowed. There's a reason he skipped his birthday here. Which is why, when he sees Kanao looking particularly uncomfortable, motions to her from the edge of the party. He has something clutched behind his back too, but don't worry about that part. Mostly, he just wants to get her away from all the attention.]

[ Thankfully, she spots Genya relatively immediately. Her expression brightens, and she peels herself away from the set-up at large to make her way over to him. ]

[ That's his sister!! He's very insistent on being part of the party decorating. there are origami butterflies strung up that are his handiwork. Apart from that, he ah... did what he could to help in the kitchen. He's not a cook by any means, but he helped! He's trying. He's not entirely sure how to act as family anymore, but he likes to think he's figuring it out again.

He's going to seek her out to say happy birthday, but for all others, they might notice he's a bit softer today than normal. ]
