And if I believe you [OPEN]
Who: Nicholas D. Wolfwood and YOU
What: Wolfwood gets a [nondenominational but it's also definitely Catholic] church
When: Throughout January after the event
Where: The Grove
Warnings: N/A will edit if needed
[A new building has appeared in the South part of the Grove.
It's small. It's exterior seems dilapidated and old despite its newness, and- at least for the first day it's around- every window is shattered and decrepit looking. This is the building that Wolfwood had asked Heimr to build for him, and honestly he was not expecting it to look this bad. It's actually kindof impressive. Like, dude, you have...magic, how could you not have made it look less shitty than this-
But, well. If anybody is wondering what it is, the shape of its steeple and the fact its topped with a little cross would clue anyone in who has familiarity with such iconography that this is, in fact, a Church. A Church that has little by way of entertainment to offer guests, but should you wander inside...
It's just as run down as the outside, though mostly because there's plant life growing everywhere. It's structurally sound otherwise, mostly, and it's clear given how some of the vines have been torn away recently that someone is trying to clean it up. It's...depending on when you find it, either empty, or there's Elsword watching you from the rafters because Wolfwood hasn't figured out how to remove him yet. He may just live here now.
Other than that though, there are books that you can pull from behind the pews to read. Bibles- "Bibles"- that don't seem to conform to any religion so much as it talks about a strange sort of religious order surrounding "Plants", so that probably isn't suspicious at all.
At the head of the sanctuary is a pulpit where a pastor might presumably give a sermon, and off to the side of it is a confessional box. The confessional box has a piece of notebook paper taped to it that reads "5 shells for 15 minutes. Confess all of your sins. -W"
The pulpit itself, if this building's owner wasn't clear enough, has a little plaque on it that reads, as if sarcastically: Saint Nicholas]

What does it look like I'm doing?? I've been trying to clean this place all day! While you- you squatters watch and don't lift a finger to help!
[Who even is this guy-]
Yes, it's mine. And everybody's been acting like it's theirs ever since it got here.
[Sir this is a public building you are going to have to let up at some point (he will he is just Sensitive today)]
no subject
Somehow, though, his ankle still aches as he approaches Wolfwood. He doesn't let the twinges of pain show on his face, though. His expression remains smooth as he stops a few feet short, staring up at the preacher silently.
Eventually, that expression gives way to something thoroughly unimpressed.]
How can it be yours? [He turns just enough to point toward the cross.] If anything, it belongs to Him, don't you think? You have no more of a claim over it than I do.
no subject
Anyway, his expression flattens to match Luca's as he folds his arms across his chest before nodding towards the pulpit.]
Oh yeah? Who's name is up there?
[He's being difficult and obtuse on purpose, but Luca doesn't have to know that.]
no subject
Probably.
In any case, he does give a scrutinizing look to the inscription. The scoff he offers echoes off of the viney walls, before he turns back to the man once more. A very sarcastic bow is offered in kind, eyes rolling in kind.]
My apologies, Saint.
no subject
Yeah just Wolfwood is fine.
[Please. Do not call him that. How much does he have to pay Heimr to get that scraped off-]
Who are you, anyway? Did you just show up?
[Or has Wolfwood just not been paying attention-]
no subject
Wolfwood. [Interesting. If he were back home, he might have expected either Venatus origins, or a horribly inept spy pretending to be there. He's a long way from Domcera, though.]
I arrived a handful of nights ago. [His eyes sweep over the church one last time before he sighs. So much for his peaceful place to hide out. He'll have to look elsewhere.
And yes, he deliberately leaves out his name.]
I understand I'm not the only wayward soul, Ser Nicholas. Is that correct?
no subject
While Luca speaks, Wolfwood suddenly steps past him, ripping up vines off the pews as he goes. It seems like this is what he's been doing all day, making passes up and down the aisles to grab as many vines and chunks of plant matter as he can before he has to leave to toss it outside. It would be a lot easier if he had a wheelbarrow or something.]
Hardly. Have you not met the rest of the menagerie?
[Points above his head where Elsword is just Fucking There, but he also means the rest of the Grove too.]
no subject
His gaze tips upward, smirk playing across his lips. His brows lift, followed by his gaze shifting upward as well. He studies the strange creatures that have made themselves at home here.]
You ought to do something about those squatters. Before they claim the place out from under you, Ser Wolfwood.
[He shifts past the alleged priest, making his way toward the door finally. He pauses for just a moment, foot catching on a vine. A short burst of flame is sent down the span of his leg without eating at the fabric. Instead, it consumes the length of the vine before burning out.]
For the intrusion. [he says by way of explanation.]
no subject
[With limited results, as Luca can see. Wolfwood can't reach the rafters, obviously, so the best he can do is scowl and hope they take the hint, but...being honest with ourselves here, he's not going to do anything more than complain. This Church is open for everyone, so people going in and out of it should be the least of his problems right now.
Before he can say anything else, Luca moves away from him like he's starting to leave. Wolfwood tracks his movement with his eyes, and if he hadn't seen it for himself he might not have believed that little fire came from him as one of the vines suddenly bursts into flames, encouraged by that lance of fire that zipped its way down his pantleg.
He leans back on his heels a little, briefly stunned, before his expression works itself back into something more neutral.]
So you're magic too.
no subject
For some reason, it makes a smile curl over his lips. His head jerks forward before he can be caught, but the strange comfort settling into his chest doesn't fade. At least there were good things to be found in this place — the lack of notoriety and familiarity with someone like Luca chief among them.
He lingers in the doorway, perturbed by the cold but not yet fleeing.]
You could say that.
no subject
[Wait, give him a moment to roll his eyes.]
Sorry, Arts, not magic.
no subject
That sounds rather pretentious, don't you think? [He waves his hand, before holding out. A small flame appears there.]
Fire is an element, of which there are six. The layman can channel elements through magic. Others, like myself, have a more deeper connection. That's all I meant.
no subject
[That and quite a few others here, but. Gnosis is the one who talks about Arts more commonly.]
And yeah, it's pretentious as hell. [Excuse me that's just what it's called on Terra] Either way, that's not a thing where I'm from. If you've got some kind of super human ability, it's gonna be artificial in most cases.
no subject
[He's seen a lot of people and creatures since arriving, but no one of any particular seniority. Not that he would consider Gnosis old at a glance.
After talking to him, on the other hand...?]
You ought to consider yourself lucky. Not that I know much of your artificial gifts.
no subject
Lucky? Dunno about that. More of a curse than a blessing.
[Not that Wolfwood seems particularly inclined to divulge in what his "gifts" might be, or if he even has any to begin with. There's honestly no real reason to keep it close to his chest, at least not here...he just feels like it's the best thing to do for now.]
no subject
[Another note is made, naturally with another snort. There's no amusement here, though — in fact, his expression seems to darken just slightly, perturbed by whatever it is that Wolfwood has said. In his defense, it isn't directed at the man, but the concept itself.]
In my experience, curse and Blessing are often synonymous. I wouldn't say it's good to know this remains true across the board, but it is known, at least.
no subject
[Wolfwood, for example, wears his enhancements as armor, because if he's going to be saddled with it at all, he's going to make use of it.]
If you're like the rest of us, though, your magic's weaker than normal. Am I right?
no subject
[Luca doesn't know how he feels about that. Judging by how his head tips low enough for his hair to fall in his face, though? Probably not all that well.]
I haven't made a point of using it beyond paltry trifles. [He nods to the pile of ash.] Keeping a few fires lit here and there is generally the easiest part of my magic. [His jaw tightens for a moment.] There are... other influences that seem weaker, if that's any help? Other tethers connecting me to home are significantly less... influential.
no subject
[Wolfwood's jaw sets, like he wishes he had something to chew on, but doesn't. Even he seems reluctant to smoke inside the church though, so he'll instead reach into his pocket to pull out a sucker to pop into his mouth. He doesn't have very many left, by now.]
It dampens peoples' abilities and shit. Doesn't get rid of them outright though, probably because it's more fun to watch us struggle with 'em.
no subject
Perhaps I ought to thank it for this. [Before Wolfwood has a chance to process what's been said, Luca quickly continues.] But I suppose I've worn enough of your time away, haven't I, Ser Wolfwood.
no subject
He isn't one to pry though, so he just works the sucker over to the other side of his mouth, waving a hand.]
Yeah yeah. Unless you plan on staying to help clean, anyway. Or have an idea of how to pry glowstick off the rafters.
no subject
[Once more, some flame dances between his fingers.]
If it ever does appeal to you, however, you know who to reach out to.
[The earlier smile fades back into a blank, placid expression. With little more to say, he gives a nod and begins to make for the exit once more.]
no subject
[Sorry you have a dumb nickname now since he never got your name!!
Wolfwood won't stop him this time, instead pivoting on his heel to get back to work. He's....going to be here a while, should Luca need him again at all today.]
no subject
And apparently, he's even grateful for it? While Wolfwood won't spot Luca for the rest of the day, when he heads to the Church the next day (or whenever he next arrives) he'll find a number of the remaining vines gone, while the structure remains blissfully untouched!
Strange!]
