[this whole thing has kiera uncharacteristically panicky and pissed. how long has she daydreamed about shifting into a peacock? and now she finally is -- yes, a peacock, not a peahen, 5 feet of tail feathers and all -- and she can't even enjoy it. no, she can't even stop to admire herself, can't shift into anything else, and the beautiful tail is more of a hindrance than a help, weighing her down and providing a huge target for monsters to grab at.
it's a good few hours before she can even catch a break, finally outpacing the snarling beasts as she manages to flutter up to the canopy and roost on a high branch. would that she could actually stay hidden, but monster or grove resident alike will hear the soft croak of her breathing. how fucking long is this shit going to last?]

[a few days after that nightmare, kiera can be found walking around the grove, beside their pinto mare. with the fog wall so close, exercise for pinto is hard to find... but at least she and kiera find comfort in each other.
though maybe pinto is slightly more outgoing than her master, because anybody who comes nearby is getting trotted up to and snuffled and nuzzled for treats.
to kiera's credit, they hide their exhaustion and exasperation well, shooting pinto's poor victim a lazy smile.]
