[ After scribbling all over the network Beat will just continue to sit where he sat, which is on the well. That's right, he plopped his ass right on the edge of the well. Do you want water? Too bad, tell him to move. He will then unceremoniously stuff his journal into his pocket the best he can by rolling it up, and sniffing the air. That sure is a fucking large ass werewolf just sitting there, trying to figure out where everyone is by sniffing the air. So even if you don't see his bullshit in the journal, you might run into him if you're trying to get water.
Come say hi, he's a good boy. Even if you don't, the moment he zones in on your scent, he might be locking eyes with you. Even if he can't see you, if he can smell you he's going to stare.
It's fine, that tail wag says he's friendly. ]

That sure is a very large werewolf just sitting there on the well. However! There is something very... oddly familiar about it. He can't quite place his finger on it.
But he figures it out pretty quickly as soon as he looks at his journal. Well then! Isn't that interesting! What in the world is going on here?
Joshua doesn't descend from his perch on the roof of the inn, nor does he make himself visible. But he does watch. Beat is from Shibuya, thus Beat is his to keep an eye on, and something unusual is going on here. It's his responsibility to figure out what it is.]
no subject
There's something bizarre about it, a little, it's missing Neku (but maybe that's just this place) but it's Josh.
So Beat's head, which is slowly turning left and right with the nose stuck in the air, slowly but surely stops swiveling and he stares in almost Josh's exact direction.
And that large tail begins to wag.
And he opens his mouth and practically howls:]
YO, DOWN HERE!!
no subject
Ah. Right. It stands to reason that a werewolf would have an increased capability for picking up on scents. Not that that makes it any less unnerving. He's invisible. He isn't used to being perceived.
Joshua could ignore this. He could easily remain invisible, pretend that he didn't hear it, that maybe Beat is imagining things... But no. Beat is looking almost directly at him. Beat knows where he is.
Beat is a very, very big werewolf that can probably climb this building, honestly.
So, with a resigned sigh, he reveals himself. His wings are put away - for now - but he's seated on the very edge of the rooftop, one knee crossed over the other, an elbow propped on the top one and his chin in his hand.]
Quite the trick you've got there.
no subject
Until Josh says that. While looking like that. In that tone that says an unfamiliarity. The Composer.
This is not his Josh. Now he understands the distinct lack of Neku smell.
Instantly the fur on Beat's hackles raise and that happy tail wag stills. It even loses it's curl and goes stiff and pointed. Slowly he stands up, his nose working over time. It's Josh, for sure, there's nothing else but.]
... 'Kay.... so you a Josh? I guess this ain't the pen'sula no more? Or some weird ass event again wid alternate shits.
no subject
Beat saying his name like that immediately erases any comfort he'd gained from that reaction, though. It isn't that he's saying his actual name that gets him. It's the rest.
Not just Josh. A Josh.
Peninsula can wait. Event can wait. Those explanations will come. It's effortless to dip into Beat's mind even from this distance, as easy as sliding on a comfy pair of slippers. And what he finds... well. This isn't just Beat from back home, is it? This is Beat, but he's been through... a lot.
Which is obvious, considering he's. Well. A werewolf.
The body language might be a bit less openly friendly, but Joshua has no doubt that he can defend himself if needed. He slips off the edge of the rooftop as though the ground is only a foot away, floating easily down until his feet gently touch the ground.]
As far as I know, this isn't a peninsula. But, it seems you're quite far from home, aren't you? Both primary and otherwise.
[Despite his confidence, he's maintaining a comfortable distance. Boy howdy, Beat is big, goodness.]
A little strange to hear you say that - a Joshua - but... I suppose you know things that you normally wouldn't, hm?
no subject
And despite his body language on the defensive itself, unsure and unease (completely with some nose and lip licks), once Josh touches down, Beat moves to pad over. The motions are a little stiff, that dog that's unsure of the situation, but also when he gets close enough?
He simply sits down.
The height difference is drastically reduced, if not negated entirely like that. It should put Josh more at ease. Even if Beat isn't quite there.]
Shit.
[It's said in a rather casual tone, Beat rolling his tongue stud across his teeth with little clicks as he thinks.]
Aight. Either... Someone dun fucked up the Sea of Stars an' shits mashin' or... I jus' got flung somewhere. Or you did. Or we did. Neku an' Shoka ain't here, right? I don' smell 'em.
[That's probably a lot, sorry Josh, he's mostly mumbling to himself. And to the question, he raises one large paw hand, he presses on one of the rings there to make it stand out. It's very obviously a wedding band, even if it's not a common shape. It's a feather, wound round his finger. It sits along side one of bloodstone.]
An'... yeah, I guess. You ain't My Josh an' that prolly weird as fuck to hear so sorry 'bout it, but it's been years fer me an' him an' Neku.
no subject
But he can sense his own touch there in Beat's mind. The mind doesn't lie. Beat knows him, or another version of him. Another version of him has been helping out with something, suppressing and muting something in his mind.
Another him... married Beat, from the looks of it. Ha. Ahaha. Oh boy, isn't that a thought? He will just not be thinking about that right now. It's not important.]
Not as weird as you'd think.
[Another, softer him, perhaps. It had to be. Hoo boy, this is interesting.]
Why don't you give me a rundown? You seem to have all the information.
no subject
[He knows him. He knows he's packing it down and putting it away so he doesn't have to consider the implications. Beat sighs and his posture relaxes, tail flopping into the dirt beneath him. The rundown question makes him snort softly and roll his eyes.]
Way too long. Jus' poke 'bout in the brain pan, I trustchu, ain't nothin' you already ain't seen before. Er, other you. Whatever.
[Beat props his elbow on his knee and plucks his muzzle into his hand and locks eyes with Josh.]
no subject
Frowning, he dives deeper without another word, avoiding Beat's acknowledgement and perception like the plague. And what he finds... isn't good. A Sea of Stars. Fog. Fourth. Transformations. Consumption of humans in varying degrees. Himself as a snake - no, an angel - and Neku as a dragon, Shoka certainly there with them but some sort of bipedal horse, other people he doesn't know.
Holes in Beat's memory where memories should certainly be.
There's a cold, low-burning fury that briefly flickers to life in his chest, but he's quick to tamp it down. Something else has been tampering with what is his, has it? How... bold.]
Well. That's certainly a lot to take in.
[Just. Completely side dodging any note about himself. He can accept everything else. It's still quite possible that the Joshua that Beat knows is a parallel one.]
Just from what I've seen, I can already tell you that you're far from where you came from. Sorry to burst your bubble.
no subject
[There's some mild surprise, but there's also just a lot of weariness that seems completely out of place for the person Beat was. Not who he is now, of course, who Josh has undoubtedly seen. He falls silent as he takes that in, claws scratching along his nose as he averts his eyes from Josh to give the Composer a break, and stares out across the grove.
His Josh and Neku still somewhere in the Sea of Stars. The Fog, similar but not? Black and not Silver. Is it alive or is something else inside it? Not the peninsula. What fresh hell...
He scrubs his face hard, shaking his head briskly after.]
Aight, no mopin' 'bout it. What plan you got on gettin' outta here? I ain't got a clue 'bout this place but it seems kinda familiar 'nuff to figure out a way out. Sea of Stars is prolly the same, right?
no subject
But there's no time for that now. Not when Beat is clearly looking to him for guidance. More familiarity? Did this other him have Beat so thoroughly in line behind him that Beat doesn't even question?
He doesn't know how to handle this, but he can recognize a willing participant when he sees it. If Beat trusts this other him enough to blindly follow, he's clearly seeing at least a little of the same in him now. He could use this.]
Well, I hate to break it to you, but I've not been here for very long myself. Haven't had much of a chance to investigate yet, unfortunately, though it's certainly on my list.
[He shrugs, sliding a hand into his pocket. The pad of his thumb slides along the seam in the plastic casing of his phone, which he then pulls out - a familiar orange color - and begins to tap through.]
There's no internet or phone signal, so it's impossible for me to call and get any kind of taxi service. But, if this Sea of Stars also exists here, it's likely that all worlds are connected in one way or another.
no subject
[Okay so. This Josh was tugged in before him but not long before him. He watches as the other pulls the phone out, how familiar, and snorts a little. He shifts a little to stick his legs out, leaning back on his hands.]
Ye, not surprisin', if it's anythin' like the pen'sula. Prolly some God here bein' a dick too. You ain't gonna have any signal, you ain't gonna be able to contact anyone back home wid yer abilities, an'... I dunno how the Sea works.
[He jerks his chin up towards the sky, pondering it after. There's something weird about this world. Other than the fact he got bit, his eyes going back to his ankle ruefully. It's not bleeding but it looks gnarly. Ah well.]
How yer skills? You feel anythin' cut off? Other than the phone home bit. The other place, we all came in like... widdout our shit. It don't feel like that here but I wouldn't know cuz.
[He gestures to all the meat of him.]
no subject
At least it sounds like he's better off than the Joshua that Beat knew. He has his abilities, mostly. He's not been reduced to a mere human.]
I seem to have made the trip fairly intact. A few things aren't working as intended, but for the most part...
[His shoulders lift just slightly in a shrug that finishes his sentence for him. With Beat looking at the wound on his ankle, it draws his eyes in, too. It... doesn't look great.]
You should probably have that looked at.
no subject
[There's something in his voice that says he means that good with something a little more fiercer than just approval. He knows how much Josh hated being disconnected, knows this Josh is prolly feeling the same. Taken from Shibuya, but at least most of himself is intact here.
He blows out a sigh and shrugs his shoulder, shaking his head.]
Nah, it ain't bleedin' no more, I heal fast, an' I've recovered from worse. Prolly that weird moose thing I saw thought I was food before I woke up. Aight.
[Climbing to his feet, he shakes himself briskly, his collar jangling, then glances around.]
Le's get investigatin', yo. Sniffers good, le'sse what we can find. Betchu there's some really weird shit to dig up.
[A tiny side-eye, his tail wagging a little. He knows Josh loves a good mystery.]
no subject
The claim of fast healing gets an eyebrow raise, but no further comment. If Beat wants to risk infection, that's his choice. He can't say he wasn't warned.]
If you say so.
[And that's that... or so he thinks. He's sliding his phone back into his pocket as Beat abruptly suggests investigating, and for a moment - just a moment - Joshua's fingers pause where they are.
Beat can see a subtle but clear shift in his expression. His interest has been piqued.]
Oh? Is that nose of yours good enough to sniff out clues, you think?
no subject
[He sounds offended but he's grinning, mouth open and tongue lolling out, stud flashing. Then the next moment he's... a dog. Same red collar around his neck, same coloring, but now clearly an Akita Inu.]
C'mon, you name it, I can find it. Whatchu think we gonna find here?
[His nose is already against the ground, lightly flaring as he sniffs. Chemically metal west, fire and flesh to the northwest, north and north east just smells good, something bilish southeast, and.... something that kinda smells ... hm.... rich and incensey from the south.
He knows he told Josh to pick but he begins to wander northwest.]
no subject
Huh.
[Of course it stands to reason that a werewolf would be able to become a wolf. But Beat is a... weredog? Maybe? This is definitely not a wolf, that's for sure. The resemblance to Hachiko is simultaneously startling and fitting.
But Beat is already wandering off in a direction. Sighing and shaking his head, Joshua moves to follow. No direction is better than the other at this point, and if he's already sniffing something out, might as well see where it leads.]
And what are we smelling here?
no subject
[If there's something in Beat's voice that says hesitance, ignore it. Or don't. He wont slow, but when they do get the edge of the burnt village, he sort of... begins to go back and forth instead of straight in. It looks like he's sniffing around but there's an obvious reluctance to go in.
Eventually he pushes past that invisible barrier, his fur standing on end a little as he does in a very uncomfortable way. Until he finds his first rodent skeleton. Oh boy! Excuse him as he dogs out and snuffles it madly, picking it up in his mouth and trotting further along until he finds! ANOTHER! that also gets added to his mouth and the happy dog carries the gross decaying skeletons around until he finds.
A... very human looking femur.
Sorry Josh you're going to be on your own for a moment as Beat spits the skeletons out and then flops onto all three. Rolling.]
no subject
Nevertheless, Beat is getting a very disgusted grimace.]
Really?
[Has any sense of dignity been replaced by dog-like ignorance? Death is one thing, but decay is... eugh.
Have fun with that. He'll watch in morbid fascination for a moment, but before long, Josh is pulling out his phone and checking out the rest of their surroundings. Beat has been decommissioned by dog brain, so someone has to do some actual investigating.]
no subject
He is getting absolutely nasty with his nose constantly in the dirt and his paws churning up things that smell interesting. The metallic twang of the brooch. He will help Josh, when Josh wipes the statue head down, to put that big beast back up.
The dog is caked. Head to toe. In ash and dirt. Soot covers his face. He's getting a look in his eye Josh may not recognize, but his husband most certainly would have.]
Hey... this statue, yo. It's supposed to be a halo an' not horns. You wanna fix that wid yer printy powers?
[Said at the same time he drops down to his hands, braces himself. And shakes.]
no subject
As Beat gets progressively more dirty and caked with dirt and debris, Josh's nose will wrinkle, but he doesn't say much more about his feelings on the matter. It isn't his business anyway, so long as Beat minds his own.
Which is to say, no, he certainly isn't recognizing that glint, and he isn't picking up on any thoughts that might lead him to understanding it, either.]
Mm? [It's a thoughtful hum and a questioning one all at once. Rather than turn to look at Beat, though, he turns to look at the statue, slipping his hand into his bag for the brooch so he can compare the two.] Well, I suppose it wouldn't do to keep it incom--
[Not looking at Beat proves to be the biggest mistake he's made all day. The first of the dirt hits him before he can stop the rest of it from doing so with his telekinesis, caught off guard as he is. But it's still enough to make him freeze mid-motion, expression contorted into a sharp wince. His clothes--]
no subject
He blecks quietly as he tries to smooth his fur back down, muttering something about needing a shower, before glancing up.
.....
Ah.
Instant guilty dog look.]
... Hey uh... buddy.... sorry 'bout that cross-fire...
no subject
He draws in a deep breath through his nose, lets it out again, and begins brushing himself off. It's only sort of smearing it a bit, but it's the attempt that counts.]
Maybe you could warn me the next time you feel the urge to do something like that?
[At least his tone isn't... angry? Frustrated, maybe, just a little, but not angry.]
no subject
[Warning too late as Josh smears it, huffing softly, his tail wagging a little.]
Yeah, sorry, forgot who I was with fer a moment.
[His tone is soft and a little locked off, he's burying his emotions down. He sighs and would try to help but he would just smear it more.]
The well should have water to wash up wid if you wanna go do that now. I can find a way to fix the halo myself.
no subject
He doesn't understand why Beat feels the way he does about another him, but he isn't about to ignore the fact that just being in his presence is probably making things a bit raw. Not that he knows what to do about any of it, of course, but he won't ignore it.]
It's fine. I'll just recreate them later.
[He hasn't been able to shift his frequency to recreate his body from scratch, but! Clothes are items he can easily make. There's a halo to fix, after all.
Peering down at the brooch as he slides it from the bag, he studies how the "horns" loop to create the halo, and then lifts himself up into the air enough that he can reach the statue's head to gently knit the stone together with more cement. A little more care is taken with this than was taken with repairing the base or gluing the head back on - that was maintenance, but this is crafting.]
There we are. Good as new.
