Out of curiosity, for those of you that obtained an item for free from Ydalir, what did you receive?

I received a rather fine-looking hat, myself, but whenever I wear it, it... forces my speech into uncontrollable and highly irregular patterns for my usual manner of speech. Which is a shame, considering I do like it.

[ Oh it must be embarrassing. ]

[ When Clotted Cream walks into the living room a moment later, he has in his hands a tricorne cap. Very stylish, and in the style more likely to be seen on the head of pirate captains, but it's still a neat and sleek black! He's rather fond of it, outside of the uh. Downside. ]

[ And there's Peepaw, tail wiggling as his son comes into the main room. The hat is very nice indeed, it reminds him of the one they saw on the boat at the beach. He holds up his hand to Clotted Cream to make him wait, then closes his Staffs eye and opens his own.

The weaving of magic is a fascinating sight, always. ]

Does it affect you merely in your hands?

[ Seeing what Pure Vanilla is doing, Clotted Cream remains still, holding the hat out just slightly from himself. ]

No, it only seems to activate once I'm wearing it. Perhaps the enchantment is on the inside of it...?

Hm!

[ And without preamble, Pure Vanilla sticks his hand inside the hat so the inside is touching and speaks. ]

Does this do anything? Ah, it seems my vernacular is still quite the same! Please, if you would put it on?

[ Well, thankfully it only seems to work when it's properly worn! Clotted Cream lets out a sigh, letting his hands drop just slightly. ]

... alright.

[ Give him a moment to put the hat on. It does look very dapper on him, at least! But, when he opens his mouth to speak again:]

I be soundin' like I'd sail on one o' the Cap'n's ships.

[ A-ah....

He promised he would not say anything and he does not, but his Staff is not entirely under his complete control. So when it blinks, it's quite obvious why. It also curls up into an obvious smile, despite Pure Vanilla's face remaining thoughtful. ]

I see...

[ He's observing the weaving of magic as the hat comes in contact with Clotted Creams head. The subtle way it shifts, the enchantment seeming to understand the difference between body parts. How marvelously complex! ]

And off, if you would?

[ Well. The staff never promised, he guesses. He can't really be mad about that, despite the fact that his mouth briefly curls into the slightest of frowns. Oh well. Off the hat goes! ]

I told you it was odd.

[ The little frown will make Vanilla shake the Staff gently to make it close it's eye again. Behave. ]

Indeed! It is harmless enough, I do not see anything that would cause injury. Either a small prank or the owner really loved it enough it absorbed traits of theirs! It should be quite easy enough to unravel the strands!

[ He saw what shifts after all. He sets his staff aside, eyes staring at the hat as he lays his hands on it and begins to gently nudge, to pluck and pull. If he snaps this one here... and he gently tugs on this little strand here. He doesn't think he can erase the magic entirely, but he should be able to severe the connection that causes the magic to occur when on the head.

Removing his hands when he thinks he's done, he peers at the new configuration. ]

Hm, that should do it... did you feel anything odd as you were holding it?

[ The next time Clotted Cream speaks, even without it on his head, it will activate the enchantment. Vanilla made it worse. ]

[ As Pure Vanilla works, Clotted Cream remains silent. He knows that work of this sort is delicate, and much concentration is probably required, so he doesn't want to interrupt.

The thing is, he feels nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing at all. So, when he goes to reply: ]

Nothin' unusual.

[ Wait. He grimaces, nose wrinkling. Did he just-- ]

Pure Vanilla, be ye sure ye changed it fer the better?

Oh....

[ HM, he had been sure... ah, could the broken parts of his Soul Jam vision been affected....? ]

No worries, my dear, give me a second...

[ Touching the hat again, he squints this time as he reweaves? Like this? Maybe tucks this strand and loops to cut the line that goes here...

When he tries to let go of the hat, he finds he cannot.

Clotted Cream will find he can't either. ]

... Aye, seems I've right gone an' made it worse. Blast.

[ Oh dear. ]

[ ... oh. Oh no.

Clotted Cream tries to let go of the hat. He tries! But his fingers seem to be stuck to it like they've been glued on. ]

Aye, seems like it. I be thinkin' we might need t' pay Ydalir a visit after all...

Nay, me lad, I'd be not wishin' to lay this upon her.

[ Hm. Hm! ]

Walk wid me, this way.

[ It's.... well there's no helping it, they're held together via hat, and Vanilla will gently walk with Clotted Cream in a certain direction, while also: ]
