some sunny day
Its the early morning, the sun has been up for about an hour or two with the quiet stirring of the Grove. The town slowly wakes up, and goes about their morning...
There is a smell in the halls of the Inn. Subtle in the early hours, but as the sun rises higher in the sky, it becomes difficult to ignore. Pungent and sharp. It's the smell of warm milk on the cusp of growing sour.
Under one of the doors a bright, almost pearlescent substance, that has started to leak out.
Uncovered Clues:
1. Unlocked door.
2. Signs of light scuffling
3. Upended box of pastries
4. Stabbed in the heart, likely died instantly
5. Wound is small with no exit wound.
6. Window is Adjacent to Body
7. Dipper's blood is two different colors, red and pearlescent white. The pearl blood seems older. The red blood comes straight from the wound.
8. body is cold and has been dead some time.
9. Noise at 10-11 pm
10. Dipper left a note for his uncles he was meeting a friend.
11. KNIFE

...
They pick up one of the least fucked up ones before standing again. Peeking at a few other things in the room. Hmmm hmmm hmmmmmmm.]
... Well! That's something new to worry about. [do they still have the knife, they're going to give it to a grunkle. cool knife but feels rude to call finder's keeper's in this situation.] Sorry, about your nephew. We've only spoken a few times, but... a-anyway, you probably want to handle this yourselves! I'll get out of your way!
[heading out after Odile yes they are stealing a pastry from the crime scene it's not like HE'S gonna finish it]

This is an actual nightmare and it's so much easier to be angry about it than to let any other feelings in.]
There's gotta be something else around here, or someone who knows who he was meeting...or the names of literally anyone in this goddamn inn.
[S I G H. Well. How about those photos and the photo equipment? Anything interesting over there? In the meantime, he calls out to Ford.]
How's the whole decomposing thing going? You need a hand over there?

[There are blood stones in each of the wash trays, which means that in addition to using the chemicals he was treating them with paleblood. The photos strung up are of Passenger, Dipper's Boss. Interesting. Looks like there's a few photos dated for mid-september. One photo dated for yesterday. The September photo shows Dipper and the Grunkles at the magic lamp with Passenger in the background. Next to Passenger is a smaller, younger boy who looks just like him. His form is transparent. In the October picture, which looks like it was taken secretively in the backroom, shows no such boy. There's a few question marks on the picture that are circled.]
[On the table is also Dipper's journal.]

He glances at the pictures... the little ghost? spirit? little guy is interesting, but for legal reasons Ain cannot know too many things about Passenger or the DWRP gods will blow me up. Hm.
He points to the not-ghostly Passenger and says, in an undertone of "bitch":]
That's Mr. Pigeon.

[ It'll be easier to move him later, once the process is finished. Ford examines the photos, though he does briefly pause when Ain points to Passenger and names him as 'Mr. Pigeon'. Like... a passenger pigeon? Is that a pun? Whose pun? He makes a note to shake down Ain for details later.
But for now... ]
Ain, was it?
[ Ford remembers hearing him introduce himself at town hall. ]
Do you know about how tall Pass—ah, 'Mr. Pigeon' is?
[ While he asks, Ford picks up Dipper's journal, ready to start flipping through it for any mention of Passenger as he does. In the meantime... ]
Stanley, has Dipper mentioned anything else about Passenger that seemed out of place to you lately?

Gonna work on the photos I took earlier tonight, but also gonna make some snacks since I’m gonna show a friend the new darkroom set up. Let’s see… Alice’s hand pies should be good. Cheese danishes maybe? Hm, maybe I should go with a different kind of pastry. Oh, right, don’t forget: no pineapple! ]

[But at least he does recognize the guy the same way Ford does. When Ford moves onto the journal, he refocuses on the photos and notes Dipper's added to them.]
No, nothing weird. I know the guy's Dipper's boss but you'd think if there was some problem he'd just fire him, right?
[Speaking as a former business owner, he has never once thought "murdering you and hiding the body would be easier than firing you".]
Passenger was at the meeting right? I didn't chat him up but I think he said something about a fiancé...Seesaw? Maybe he'd know, if he's not an accomplice.

[ An anagram and a Vigenere cipher? Dipper really didn't want anyone to figure this one out. Ford figures out the anagram without much trouble, but the cipher is going to take a few moments. In the meantime... ]
Stanley, the picture with the circled question marks. Can you tell what he was circling?

Stan looks over the two photos, humming.]
There's something in this one that's not in the other one. Some kinda ghost kid?
[For someone so gruff and easily frustrated, ghost photos seem pretty normal to him.]
I think... [He hesitates, wanting to be entirely sure before he commits to a theory. But it's Ford, and Ford's asking him, so--] ...the ghost has to be the normal part, right? If the ghost was new he would've circled it, but he circled the other one, kinda where the ghost would be if it was there.
[He holds the ghost picture so it can be seen by anyone who wants to see it. With that context, it feels a lot more like the circles and question marks are saying "Where'd the ghost go?!"]

[Continues to be unhelpful for a second.]
No, I don't think the angle of the knife meant that anyone that tall would've done it. Your nephew is pretty tiny, so if someone that tall did it, they'd probably have to be crouching. Maybe sitting...? I guess that would change things. The injury looked pretty straight on either way.
[Does not say that he fingered the wound. Sorry he was just checking the blood out!!]
Do you think Ghost Baby Mr. Pigeon did it?
