Drinks Are On Me (Bar Log)

When: Mid month, during carnival terror.

[Life goes on in the Grove. New faces come, and some of them leave before Luca even has the chance to properly get to know them. This month, the memories of everyone's ideal life likely continue to hang over their heads. And that actually sucks, thanks. So Luca makes sure to roll out the proverbial red carpet. Between that and the nightmare that is the carnival, the usual sign outside the bar is quickly updated: Free Drinks all Month

It's worth noting that the usual age restrictions are gone. Anyone is allowed to enter the tavern at this point, though Luca isn't going to be handing out drinks to anyone below 15 (he swears that's normal in Renova). Still, it's probably evident why he's been more amenable to the younger generation. A number of tables have been moved away from one of the walls, and Luca has taken the time to pencil out where a potential open doorway may go eventually. There are even stray papers behind the bar that you might catch sight of — looks like someone's planning an addition.

How interesting!

As usually, Luca puts out plenty of food. Probably more than usual. Is he trying to compete with the carnies by putting out actually edible dishes? Maybe. Enjoy your roast beef, pheasant, and rotating stews, I guess. There's also a cheese plate out this month, strangely absent over the last few. Maybe someone is feeling a little hopeful? Who's to say.

Enjoy your bar log. Drink, have fun, and break things. Luca's not your dad, and his ghost dad will probably just grin from his corner.]

[ Tex sits down next to him, recognizing him as the comrade who helped her fight the shadow monster back at the carnival. And of course, recognizing his mini-synth. ]

You feeling all right after all that?

[Min-Gi jumps, still a little on edge after everything that had happened. Even so, he manages to summon a terse smile for her.]

Oh! Yeah.

[Definitely convincing...]

How about you? Are you doing okay now?

[ She gives a little jerk of her head with a half-shrug. ]

Until I came here I would say things like that were nothing, but...

[ She pauses, then sighs. ]

Yeah, it was kind of unnerving.

That definitely didn't feel like nothing...

[This isn't the first place Min has been where things had been so dangerous, but that hasn't helped him feel any more used to it.]

It's okay to be freaked out. This place can be pretty scary.

Thing is, where I came from, things had like, a scientific explanation. Like we didn't know how the aliens made their technology but we knew it was technology, you know?

[ Her lips quirk into a half-frown. ]

You deal with anything like this where you're from?

[That's a more difficult question to answer. He hesitates, not because he feels the need to hide what he and Ryan had been through, not here at least. But because he still has no idea how to explain it in a way that makes sense.]

Not where I'm from exactly? I ended up on some weird train in another dimension a couple of years back though. My friend and I couldn't go back home until we worked through our issues and learned to communicate better. The technology was way beyond anything we'd ever seen, but I think it was still all science?

[Probably. Some of it had seemed like magic, but only in the way that electricity might feel like magic to someone who had never experienced it before.]

Yeah. I agree, it had to be based in science of some kind.

[ She continues to frown, however. She doesn't like not understanding things and it really does turn out she does a lot of that. She takes her drink, which she has been gripping tightly, and swigs from the glass. ]

I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Science is definitely what I'm used to. I don't even know how to explain some of the things here.

[He'd seen the spell cast on his mini-synth, and can't think of any way that would've been scientific. This place has definitely forced him to expand his worldview yet again.]

It's okay. I wasn't exactly happy at the time, but my life would have been worse if we hadn't been through that.

Hm, yeah. Sometimes things turn out that way.

[ Not stopping her from drinking now, knowing that, though.

She gestures at the mini-synth. ]

Is that something that you got here? Or did it come from home?

[Min-Gi glances down at the mini-synth, smiling slightly.]

I've had it since I was six. The magic's new though. Ydalir helped me with it.

[ That's interesting, she thinks. Maybe she should seek an magical enhancement for one of her weapons.

She tilts her head a little, thinking about how the whole encounter had gone. ]

You still learning how to use it?

Not really. I'm only buying one spell for it at a time, so it doesn't take long to pick up. I've been trying to keep the way it works pretty simple.

[Even if he does buy more magic for it he intends to keep up the same principle.]
