[ Ezell had nimbly shoved himself between two buildings to escape the flower-headed priest thing that had passed by minutes ago. He only just now manages to worm his way out, with distant rumbles of creatures far bigger than him walking through the streets. It isn't safe here, but Ezell still walks out anyway to look down at the footprint that seared flowers out of the stone. They're all wilted now, and Ezell hardly got a chance to look at them. He still reaches down to pluck one of the flowers up, blacked and petals curled, almost turning to dust in his hand.
He feels... sad. It isn't as though he particularly cared for these flowers, but it... sort of reminds him of that nightmare he has. One that Flamebringer almost saw once upon a time.
And speaking of-
He looks up at hey, a moment where a tired, yet comforted smile crosses his face at the familiar voice, but it hardly has the chance to live for even a second as it dies to the horror that crosses Ezell's face instead. It would be clear Flamebringer isn't hurt if Flamebringer were not Flamebringer. He could be suffering wounds and it would be hard for Ezell to tell. He'd be nonchalant even if his fucking arm were cut off. So there's a very timid question that Ezell blurts out, despite the reassurance. ] Are you okay...???
[ He looks away the moment Flamebringer mentions being okay, dropping the dead flower to the ground so he can use both of his hands to squeezes the strap of his shotgun. ]
...I don't... like seeing you like that. [ But... he really is trying to help. It's not fair of Ezell to keep doing this. You're horrible to Flamebringer, even now. How can he love you when you keep doing this? At least he's doing something. What about you? Worthless. ]
Whuh...? N-no, it's alright. I mean, it's... it's so dangerous here, I get it. I'm not upset [ Well, no, he's a little upset, but- ] it's just... scary, that's all.
[ It's not like Flamebringer isn't immediately going to go back to killing things after he's clean, after all. So there's really no point until they get out of here. ]
It feels like everyone's gotten so separated from one another. I was afraid I wouldn't find you.
I haven't slept in a couple days. Got a bunch of guys after me — if I'm not on alert, they'll get the drop on me. Looks like they'd prefer that I'm alone for now, so it's a good thing I found you.
[He's still headed toward the building.]
Other than that, I'm not gonna get blood on you. Let me clean this shit off so I can give you a kiss, at least.
[ That's super not good. Alright, fine, he'll nod here and take Flamebringer to one of the nearby buildings that seems less rotty and dilapidated than those around it. He makes sure to block off the door behind them when they enter. ]
Once you've cleaned off, then, we'll find somewhere to lay you down. You'll sleep if I'm watching, I hope? If there's no bed or anything, you can put your head in my lap.
[This building is, at least, standing still. It's a nightmare situation, but he's used to it. Not sleeping is sort of a thing when you've done what he's done to get by.
Inside, the floors are stable enough to walk on, and there are some towels around for him to completely wreck with blood. It looks like it was once a furniture store, though there's very little here now. It may as well be an empty warehouse. It takes a while of scrubbing to get all the blood off, fresh and old both, and so he sits up on an old half-shelf display while he works.]
There might be if we go further in. The sign says "Bedding" over that way.
[Hard to see over the empty shelves and displays full of mold, though.]
...but yeah, I'll take you up on it. You're on the lookout for things in the shadows. They're... old Sarkaz assassins I knew once upon a time. Wrapped head to toe in black. They don't move if you look at them, but wake me up if you see them.
Sarkaz assassins... [ Ezell helps find the cloth that Flamebringer won't just dirty himself more with, and meanders around to see if any of the faucets or anything work for running water. And, they do, technically, but the water is murky enough that Ezell knows better than to even attempt to use it.
He rummages around in his bag for a moment to pull out an empty water bottle and a pocket knife to start cutting the bottom of it off, though. He takes a small, mostly clean rag and stuffs it in the bottle. Then he breaks off a piece of nearby wood that doesn't seem rotting from the floorboards and brings it to Flamebringer. ]
If you're feeling good enough to and don't think you'll strain yourself, can you burn the hell out of this? Until it's charcoal, and even then, keep going, until it's ashy. I'm gonna have a look around and see if I can get some pebbles and sand...
[ If Flamebringer were taught "in a pinch" survival skills, he'll know that Ezell's trying to make a very primitive water filtration. ]
[He raises a brow, but he knows what Ezell's getting at. A mote of flame flicks to life against the wood as he takes it, until his entire hand and half of his forearm are burning alongside it. It doesn't hurt him, of course, and he'll collect the ashes carefully as they start to fall.]
It felt like there was a ton of sand when we came in. Probably tracked in from others coming in, if I had to guess.
[ Ezell nods, making his way through the path of the more stable flooring to the entrance again so that he can scoop up some of the sand up. It's easy enough to find, with his halo providing him enough light to look around. Who needs lanterns? This process still takes him a hot minute, since he has to make sure he's not scooping up more dirt than sand, but it doesn't have to be perfect, fortunately. Pebbles are much easier to find, as well, and so long as he doesn't have to go too far outside, he'll be okay.
...
He returns after with a big handful of sand and pebbles and places them on a nearby counter while he waits for enough charcoal for the bottle. ]
Guess if we're heading out from now on, I gotta make sure I got more survival stuff on me... [ He frowns. ] ...So stupid that I didn't. I couldn't... I couldn't feel the emotions of those bastards in the truck. I should've known better...
[ Ezell shakes his head. ] No. No one in the town, either, besides the people from the Grove. I thought that maybe there was some sort of mental block or... or something like that. Something weird that I just didn't need to question, but...
[ Ezell continues to stuff the ash into the bottle until there's about a layer there's an inch thick, and he nods at Flamebringer to let him know that he's good now. He puts a layer of pebbles and sand on top of that, bringing the bottle to one of the faucets again to fill it up and put it over one of his coffee mugs to start filtering out clean water into it. It's... a very slow process, as the water slowly trickles through each layer, but at least by the time Flamebringer sleeps and wakes up, he'll have clean water to drink.
Which was Ezell's goal here, really.
He starts gathering some of the sheets and such that he pulled together so he can make a comfortable place for Flamebringer to lie. ]
I should've figured it was something, considering the circus that happened...
Ugh, don't remind me of that stupid circus. It was fun until they pulled out a monster that looked just like you. I almost fucking lost it.
[Hey Flamebringer, do you want to talk about your issues? ...no?
But with the blood cleaned off, Flamebringer can at least take a breath. He's a little tacky, but that doesn't mean he's not hopping off the shelf and trying to hug Ezell now. His shoulders are tensed like he's still on-guard as this happens, of course, and Ezell might see that his long ears are flicking with each perceived sound outside.]
There we go. I feel like it's been too long.
[It has been two (2) days since he's seen his wife]
I'm sorry. [ He didn't mean to bring up bad memories again. He's also not sure what to?? Think about that??? What do you mean he was there, what do you mean you were afraid of that-
When Flamebringer comes in for a hug, he settles his chin against Flamebringer's shoulder and squeezes him tightly. He doesn't care if there's residual blood that rubs off on him. He wants to cuddle... ]
...It certainly feels like it has been. [ It might've only been two days, but like... when shit sucks, it feels like longer. ] I'm... afraid when we leave, this place might try to separate us again. But I'll do anything to try and prevent that.
[ Ezell, who still is a trained field executor, hears the crack, and immediately braces himself. Luckily, he has these sheets, and he's able to shift them around to hopefully cushion some of the fall's impact by settling them on Flamebringer's back. It's not much, but better than nothing.
He groans after the impact, carefully trying to pick himself off of Flamebringer to make sure he's not pressing down on any injuries he may have gotten from that. Ezell himself is fine. He might have some bruises on his arms and hip later, but fine. ]
[His back fucking hurts now, and that's not helping the exhaustion any, but Sarkaz are hardy. He'll live. He's just laying on the floor with his Ezell and ope Ezell is getting up nevermind.]
If bruises count as being hurt, then I'm pretty sure I have bruises. Major injuries, no. Unless you wanna play doctor and say I totally busted my ass and need to drop my pants for you.
[It's a dumb, albeit quite clear and tired-sounding joke. He does not want to drop his pants right now. He has to make the dick joke because it's Funny or something. As soon as Ezell is on his feet, Flamebringer rolls onto his side and pushes up onto his.]
Shout if you get jumped by something. Maybe it's safer for us to hole up down here for the night anyway, I'll look around.
[ Flamebringer will at least get a smile for his joke. It's sad, and mostly just appreciative that he's trying to lighten the mood. ]
...Maybe. It's a bit dusty, and I would prefer to make sure nothing else is going to crumble down on us while we're sleeping. [ The blankets and stuff he had are down here, too... ] And we should make sure we have a way we can get back up, as well.
[He sighs, though, motioning for Ezell to go on ahead and find a staircase while he looks around the area for either somewhere safe, or something that'll kill them, or... fuck, he doesn't know, signs of structural collapse? They can meet back up after they have a way out secured.]

[The tip of his tail sways, and he frowns, discarding all of his trophies to the ground. Hopefully whatever's here doesn't respawn from them, mm...
He flicks his fingers to light them on fire, then nods his head toward a nearby building.]
C'mon. I should wash my blades anyway before that Elsword kid gets on my case about sword care. Bet we can find some rags in there.
