002: handwriting practice

[ At some point during the night, one of these nights while everything is going on, Tex finds she can't sleep. The sensation of worrying is definitely new to her; not the worrying itself but the unease in her stomach, the slight trembling of her hands, the sweating in her sheets as she rolls over in bed. At some point she arises and considers taking a walk, reconsiders it as a bad idea, and goes down to the wine cellar to grab a bottle. After taking a few swallows, she takes the bottle with her and heads to the kitchen. She sets the bottle down, gets out her netbook, and fiddles with her pen. After a bit she decides what she's going to do. ]

How the hell do people figure out how their handwriting works??

Well, that's kind of annoying. I expected it to come naturally somehow.

No, it's not. Just not how I expected it to be, is all.

Have you only just learned to write? You seem very natural at it.

don't parents or teachers usually ... teach that?

That's kind of making a lot of assumptions.

So I was never taught to write, that's all

I just know what it looks like

The issue is I've never held a pen before I came here. I'm trying to work out how to make it look the way I want.
