we're all in agreement that it's cool to skip a birthday if it feels like it's too soon, right?
i swear i just celebrated back home or somethin'
and i'm pretty sure i don't have a lot of years left in me, so better make 'em count.

That's flattering but he's so confused as to why ]
Where are you?

Here. Happy Birthday Genya.
[ There are two (2) gifts technically, a green and purple folded pinwheel- because he knew Genya missed Sanemi and.
A bouquet of paper flowers in a make-shift vase. All of them had little messages folded around the stems with "open if sad" as the only indication for what was on them.
Its compliments and praise. ]

Ugh, big mistake.]
What the fuck, Muichiro - [His throat feels so tight, and his face feels hot. He backs into his room with the vase, quickly setting it down before he drops.] Seriously, man, what the fuck -

[ He kinda trails in after him, head tilted. Genya seemed kind of unsteady, and he didn't want him hurting himself. ]
Maybe I should have asked someone first... I've never been to a birthday other than my own.
[ That he remembers, anyway. A lot of the past couple years feel far away. ]

[It's everything right, really. It's a heartfelt gift, one that Genya probably needs, if he cares to really think about it. At the same time, though, it's only natural that he doesn't feel deserving. Everyone has gone out of their way for him over something so simple and trivial, something he didn't even want to celebrate in the first place.]
It's fine. It's just... really kind.
[Give him a second to turn around and wipe at his eyes. When did they become so watery?]
Thanks, Muichiro.

... You always seem to forget you have value, you're so busy propping others up. The things you do matter. The people you meet care about you.
[ "I care about you" goes unsaid, but it's there in his actions, how he holds a little more firmly. ]
Your birthday... it's not just about you, it's also about everyone who cherishes you being able to show as much.

He doesn't really agree. He isn't sure what he's ever done that's mattered. But Muichiro is smart. And kind. And wise. And he also probably wouldn't bullshit Genya.
... So why not believe him?
He tucks his head into Muichiro's hair, wrapping his arms around the young man in kind. He even manages to squeeze him back. It's for the best anyway. At least he can hid his face in the younger man's hair.]
... Thanks. Again. [He definitely doesn't sniffle.] Sorry I keep repeatin' myself.

Muichiro isn't in a rush to let go. He rubs circles into his friend's back, equal parts soothing and affectionate. ]
It's alright... I used to need to have people repeat things a lot y'know.
[ He'll have mercy on the guy and not stack more affectionate words on him, but hopefully he knows he can come to him if he's feeling bad. ]

Maybe Muichiro picks up on how he secretly cherishes it?]
Heh. Yeah. Guess you can't judge me that much.
[He shifts his hands, just to mimic the motions that Muichiro offers. That's gotta be better than just standing there like a board, right? His fingers catch at some of the younger man's hair, though, and - it's kind of soft, isn't it? It feels nice.
Muichiro feels nice. The hug feels nice. This is... nice.]
