[Not a good first impression for a number of reasons, staring off wide-eyed into space at something that others could, assuredly, not see. Lodi blinks owlishly once, twice, and then manages a sheepish smile.]
Sorry about that. Yes, I am new. Very new, actually, I arrived... right smack dab in the middle of all this. It's nice to meet you, even if this is probably a pretty poor first impression! I'm Lodi.
[Luckily, he bounces back so, so quick.]
I'm doing alright, thank you, but if you wouldn't mind I might actually take you up on, at the very least, accompanying you to the kitchen. I haven't really gotten the chance to familiarize myself with everything here just yet. Was a bit of a whirlwind when I arrived.
I love cooking, man, c'mon. I'll make you whatever you want, unless you want me to pick.
[It seems they're both quick to bounce back! This is surely a good thing. Anyway, Urbain practically lives out of the inn kitchen, so he'll lead Lodi that way and start setting out the usual things he'd need to make just any recipe (knives, cutting board, pans, y'know).]
Back home, I used to cook nightly dinners for my friends. I promise you can trust me with your tastebuds.
[Gosh, he is a little overwhelmed by the kindness. And also the fact he has utterly no idea what they have stocked in the kitchen. Surely it would make more sense to simply let Urbain choose a recipe that he was comfortable making rather than trying to choose something off the top of his head...?
Lodi rubs at his face with one hand, pensively staring up at the ceiling. Eventually, he offers Urbain a warm smile and a bit of a helpless shrug.]
My mind is - blank, honestly, so I might just let you pick. And believe me, I trust you already! No one walks into a kitchen with that much confidence unless they know how to cook or... really, really don't know how to cook. I'm sure whatever you make will be delicious.
[After a momentary pause, he asks the obvious question in a voice tailored to neutrality:] How long have you been here, if you don't mind me asking? It almost sounds recent.
[Listen, Lodi is game for most things. Given how Urbain was talking, too, he wholeheartedly believes that he can make a dish that Lodi will assuredly enjoy.]
Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help out. And, gotcha, okay. From the people I’ve talked to, it definitely seems like there’s a pretty wide range. Some people have been here well over a year and then some, like you, have been here only a short while. How has it been? Outside of the, uh, obvious.
[It's the process. Trust the process. Trust the clanging of dishes and the way Urbain tosses and flips a chef's knife around before perfectly catching the handle. We are going to craft a lunch that is so filling.]
It's uh... dude I'm not gonna lie to you: the people here are freaks and a lot of them scare me. But! I can't let a little fear stop me from existing, or I'd never be able to go outside ever again.
[ And Lodi does trust the process, even if he flinches in mild terror when Urbain tosses the knife. Briefly, a scrolling list of what to do in triage runs through his mind at rapid-fire pace even as Urbain catches it expertly. It remains in the back of his mind just in case!
He really does feel bad just standing there while Urbain does all the work, even if he's been assured otherwise. It was just in his nature! ]
There's… definitely some interesting types, yeah. What brought us all here didn't seem too fussed about the idea of culture shock, or how difficult it might be for us all to, um, mesh? I'm glad you aren't letting it stop you, though. With the way things have been going, you might really get cabin fever.
Where I'm from, people are freaks too. It's just freaks in a different way. Like, there's this lady that wears only pink and she trapped everyone I knew at a party because she really wanted to have a Pokemon battle with me and I was busy trying to, y'know, do stuff that wasn't a party.
Anyway, come to find out after she used her holo caster to stalk me all day that she was holding people hostage.
[ Wow, what in the world? The prior assumption that Urbain has come from a world very similar to Lodi's previous one is pulled out from beneath him so quickly that he's reeling. Had this been mentioned before? Had he missed a detail? Whatever, he can roll with it. Besides, there's something else he needs to focus on here. ]
Wow, that is… terrifying? How did that end up being resolved?
Oh, it was super easy, we just went to the party and one of my besties walloped her in battle. You can ask Corbeau if you ever talk to him, he was there. Just say the name "Jacinthe" and watch the veins on his forehead bulge out 'cause he's mad.
[Don't do this]
She's not hostile, she's just kinda weird, you know? A bit scary but I don't think she was gonna do anything. She fed the partygoers she held hostage food and they were indoors in a fancy rich people hotel, they were just mad that me and bestie took so long to get to the location because they wanted to do other stuff. Probably grocery shop or something.

[He does not tell Lodi what it is, but it looks like he's pivoted to grab a big-ass pan and a ton of veggies and spices. Hmmmm...]
I've only been here a couple months. Like... I dunno, three or four, maybe?
