ACT I —— the new 'ghost ' in the inn
Who: Phantom and anyone who'd respond
What: The inn has a (somewhat) new resident who's (actually) not a ghost. That new resident had, at last, made himself known to public.
When: Mid-February
Where: The inn
Warnings: Long text + Phantom-standard warnings, limited but not including to possible mentions/allusions of DID, depression, etc. Please check my permissions post in this journal for the full list.
The Inn, mid- to late-afternoon, OTA.
[ It's likely not the best place to stay in town due to the general uneasiness that the atmosphere of the place might (very likely) invoke, and the mysterious, heavy footsteps that could sometimes be heard resounding throughout the hallways at certain times of the day would very likely be a turn-off for most people.
...However, it was deserted. Phantom had spent enough time since his arrival some three weeks back (if his timekeeping is correct, since it was as a certain Liberi operator had told him, time passes by in a strange manner in the Grove; more like in the old, accursed castle rather than onboard the Rhodes Island landship) to observe that other residents seemed to preferred staying elsewhere, which was a huge plus for him. He did not mind the footsteps all that much (he was used to being disturbed by both the spirits of the dead and the VOICE in his head), and more importantly, the inn was warm, with an ever-burning fireplace. Additionally, the Shopkeeper wasn't a man of many words, fortunately for him, which means that he wasn't intimidated about getting food from him (before he brought them with him to the inn), unlike Rhodes Island and its noisy staff cafeteria.
In any case, the Feline had started settling down in the inn, which might explain the...strange, unsettling shadow that would sometimes flit in and around the place, even during daytime (or what passes as 'day' in Aldric's Grove, anyway).
If you're lucky (or unlucky), you might catch him there today, doing either:
a) poking around in the upper level, looking for an attic,
b) gently stroking a little plantanimal in a distant corner of the inn's lobby,
c) heading inside the inn using one of the windows after getting some food from the Shopkeeper, or
d) in the kitchen, trying to cook something. ]

[ A mysterious user by the name of 'Phantom' had appeared in the netbooks' network, although those with sharp eyes might have noticed that it's been there ever since late January. The man behind it had simply and finally decided to make himself known.
His handwriting is an elegant cursive, classic but still readable. ]
...Good, ah, afternoon, I suppose — or early evening. This is operator Phantom speaking, or just 'Phantom' would be fine, for those of you who are not of Rhodes Island. Operators Gnosis and Sesa has recently enlightened me on the situation, and seeing that there are a couple of us here...I thought I should make myself known. Perhaps. Uh, The Doctor would have wanted me to do this.
In any case, I am a Specialist operator, experienced with special ops, covert ops, and anything that requires fast execution and mobility. My expertise might come in handy in the coming days; at the very least, I wish to be of use to...my fellow operators and other people here.
That matter aside...might I ask if the inn has an attic? I am not, as a matter of fact, er...asking for a friend, as I do not have one, unless the...the spirits count.
...I am also curious about this settlement, this 'Aldric's Grove'. Is it permanently stuck in place — not moving, er, not a mobile town? I cannot seem to find any mechanism for its movement anywhere, although the forest might have obscured that, if the forest is included in this settlement's blueprint. In which case...the mechanisms might lie there or beyond it, out of reach. Gnosis had also told me that this isn't in Terra, so...I suppose Catastrophes did not exist here?
Erm, I should think that is all for now. ...Please refrain from disturbing me in the inn beyond what is necessary. Thank you.

inn (kitchen)
or maybe he's seen her in the kitchen, as they meet now- she blinks in mild surprise that anyone else would be in here, and a little peach-like creature sits on her shoulder, almost blending in to her hair. she's quiet for a moment before she sighs softly.
thankfully, it's a big kitchen, so there's space enough for both of them. )
Are you looking for something? I use the kitchen the most, so. I know where everything is.

...The Doctor was like that, too. And so was the shopkeeper, here in Aldric's Grove, although he could sense that the latter was more shadows than flesh-and-blood like them. It seems like the people of this...world are really different from Terrans, as Gnosis had said. Or perhaps it was more apt to say that he's no longer in Terra.
Truly.
In any case, he usually avoided her if he glimpsed her in the inn's kitchen — this kitchen that they were standing in. It might be big enough for the both of them, but there was a reason why Phantom did not make himself known to the other residents of the Grove for three weeks. He's not...very social, to put it simply. Even moreso towards those not from Rhodes Island or Terra. ]
...Hello. [ He greeted, but his gaze was at the small creature who sat on her shoulder. It was definitely meant for that cute little critter. After his initial greeting, he fell quiet, avoiding his interlocutor's gaze. ] And thank you for the offer. But I am fine.
[ That being said, he continued frying his egg over the stove. The inn's a little old-fashioned, but he was actually more used to that than the modern one onboard the Rhodes Island landship. ]
Just wondering, I suppose, where these eggs came from. Uhm, not a philosophical question, but...I do not think I have seen some fowlbeasts around. ...Unless I missed them.

to distract herself, she begins to rummage through the cabinet overhead for one of the kettles, up until he asks his question- )
Oh- uh. ... I know that Heimr provides a lot of the fresh food, but I'm not sure where he gets it, actually? Though Elsword did say he's working with a spirit.
( which is fascinating to think about- she should try and learn more. especially when this world's magic is still largely a mystery... )
For a long time there wasn't any wildlife at all, so maybe they'll turn up eventually.
cw/tw: implications of cannibalism
In spite of how he might appear to be, a telltale, delicious aroma had started to waft from the direction of the frying pan that he was using. It appears that he knows what he was doing. Cooking is a basic skill, after all, and one that was necessary for survival, especially for a traveling performer and then independent assassin. ]
...Heimr? [ He asks, after a moment, appearing to have forgotten that he'd asked a question, since he was reaching for the salt and then sprinkled some on the egg that was being fried.
hopefully nothing bad will happen to it...] Er, never heard of that name before. I apologise. Do you perhaps mean the Shopkeeper? Was it...his name?[ Well, he wouldn't be surprised if it was. Despite of the fact that he'd been here for nearly a month now, Phantom could hardly claim that he's ever had a lengthy conversation with the man. He didn't like it when he loitered, after all, and he knows when he's using his Arts to blend into the shadows and observe him. ]
There are certainly plenty of spirits here. Are these food the result of a ritual, then? [ Again, he was familiar with this. At the very least, that was what the Troupe told them whenever they were having something special. If he's aware of the truth, his mind had mercifully chosen to block it out. ] But I see. It is strange for a forest to not have any wildlife to speak of, although there are plenty of bones to be had from the river, and the Shopkeeper seemed to collect them...
[ He thought on this as he finished frying the first egg. It's...somehow a little bit burnt around the edges, and the Feline frowned slightly. It was never like this before, and he's been cooking nearly every single day ever since he arrived and chose to settle down in the inn. Even so, he reached for another one that he's had prepared and put in a bowl after he'd cracked it open. ]
...Nevertheless, all the food seemed to have been normal. They did not taste half-bad, either. Perhaps even slightly better than some of the Troupe's supplies back then.
