Hello. This is Clotted Cream Cookie.

Pardon my handwriting. It is, admittedly, not as clear and practiced as I'd like it to be. The forest has taken my arm from me.

I am looking for anyone who has experience in... this. Losing an arm. Adjusting to the loss in day to day life. I'm afraid it puts me at a considerable disadvantage.

[ If he sounds like he's taking this well, it's only because he's practiced it. He's not. ]

Doctor Add is out, so the clinic is unmanned currently. If you meet me there regardless, I can take measurements and build you a prosthetic, if you'd like. Otherwise, I'm available at the lab for physical therapy, or something like it.

It was a couple of days ago, but Pure Vanilla Cookie was with me when it happened. He staved off the worst of the damage. I am as well as could be expected.

A while back...

I'm still unclear about how long I've been gone. It feels like a blur, and like no time has passed at all. I'd followed the river to the lake, and then something in the water attacked me. I remember trying to fight it off, and then

I dont really have any good advice for you for how to adjust since we lost completely different limbs
but I can tell you one thing
it helps to not stop trying to do the same things you did before
even if its hard
youll start to find new ways to adjust.

The doors are scrambled right now, so your direction will be unclear. If you flip back several pages in your notebook, there should be a map — I drew and labelled it several days prior. Hopefully it helps.

[ Dark Cacao is not nearly as much a fusser as Pure Vanilla is, but he shows his concern in his own way. Mostly by being Around, a massive looming presence in the house. He doesn't ask Clotted Cream if he needs help with anything, or hover. But there's always food made (if maybe a bit dull by Republic standards) and makes sure either he or Vanilla is always there if he DOES need something. But otherwise he's letting him be.]

So, much like I am doing now with writing, then. As with anything, it all takes practice, I suppose...

How long has it been for you, if I may ask? How well have you adjusted?

I... see. Thank you for telling me before I tried to step outside. Please forgive me if you arrive long before I do. I will try my best not to get lost.

[ Dull as the food may be, it's still greatly appreciated. To be quite honest, it's surprising more than anything, how present Dark Cacao seems to be. In all of his past experiences with the king, he hasn't exactly picked up on the feeling that he's at all liked, though he is by no means offended by such. Dark Cacao has every right not to, and he won't argue it. Thus, he hasn't asked for much.

Clotted Cream hasn't been up and about too much until the last day or so, simply because he hasn't felt like it. His body has been in recovery, and he has needed rest. But he's feeling restless now, particularly because he's had trouble sleeping after all that's happened.

Tonight is one such night. Nightmares have rendered him unable to sleep, and so he's walking toward the kitchen to fetch himself a fresh glass of water. All this laying about has left him feeling a little dried out, and the pitcher left at his bedside is long since drained of its contents. ]

[Don't worry about the doors.]

If you do get lost, just say so and describe where you are. I can assist with telling you where to go from there, or meet you halfway and guide you.

[ And he makes it! Eventually! It is maybe a bit longer than it should be just because he is checking the map multiple times to make sure he is following the steps correctly - and also trying to hold a book open while also opening doors when you only have one hand kind of sucks - but he makes it to the clinic just fine. ]

[ and clotted cream wouldn't be wrong: in most other circumstances Cacao likely wouldn't associate with him much. The consul was simply not the kind of cookie he tended to get along with. And even now knowing his intent was (while perhaps politically advantageous, going by Chip's report) good and noble... Cacao did not easily forgive. And Clotted Cream had crossed the line twice over- he banished cookies or even threatened crumbling for less insult.

But the circumstances changed things. As the only former cookies here they only had each other... and while he doesn't like Clotted Cream much, he feels a certain... responsibility. As a King and an elder, even though he isn't his subject.

... plus Vanilla cares about him.

When Clotted Cream walks into the kitchen Cacao is there, reading by candlelight at the table. Pure Vanilla is, for once and blessedly, asleep, and he didn't want to wake him with his own insomnia.]

Clotted Cream did not expect company, particularly the company of Dark Cacao, who seems to be... having a good enough time by himself? The king has always been a little difficult for him to read unless his mood is strikingly - ha ha - obvious. But he won't be rude, either, particularly when there seems to be some sort of ceasefire going on here.

So, he clears his throat, dismissing his brief startled expression, and moves further into the kitchen. ]

... good evening, Dark Cacao Cookie. I, ah... see that you are unable to sleep, as well?

I was using a wheelchair for the first couple of weeks before I started using crutches
use the crutches now mostly unless Im too tired to deal with it

[Also the Grove isn't super set up for wheelchairs, so sometimes he just has to deal with it.]

I am sorry, though, about the loss of your leg. It sounds as though it's a worse loss than an arm, mobility considered. If there is anything that I can ever do to help, please let me know. From one disadvantaged to another.

[He makes it! Gnosis is sitting in the waiting room, since they'd have to go through another sixteen doors just to get to the operating room, and that's not even what they're here for in the first place. Measurements and the like can be done just fine like this.

Speaking of, Gnosis waves, except his hands are full of tape measure and pen and two notebooks, one being his personal one and the other clearly being the one with internet connectivity.]

[ There's something to be said for being direct, at least. Clotted Cream sits in the aforementioned seat, then pauses, glancing down at himself. The thin, translucent membrane that hangs down around his shoulders like a capelet doesn't conceal much, but the shirt beneath it does. ]

I did not mean to make light of my own loss, of course. Each is complicated in its own right. But to that end, we can all work together to make up for anything we may lack, and that does not stop at injuries.
