second stanza ⚜ fallen down
who: rennuid, a tree, and you.
what: grief, regression, heartache, knowing better than this, we got it all
where: where all the scary people trees are
warnings: UH. potential mentions of rennuid's backstory (w particular warnings for allusions to csa/grooming), all will be warned for in tag headers as it comes up.
[ There is a field of bodies, frozen and taken over by trees. They are people you know. Rennuid has never seemed to recognize one, when some arrangement of the little gaggle holding strong in Aldric's Grove end up out there, together.
Rennuid never seems to recognize any, except-- there is a path he always happens to be going to and coming from.
Today (when? time? frankly, it slips. honestly. this precise scene could have happened more than once.) he vanished abruptly with the morning mist, only slight footprints left behind, in the softened earth.
...
He's fine. You found him. He's sleeping, deeply, like he hasn't in months, years, curled up at the side of a great, scale-less snake; a body frozen in time, rimed with foliage. There are what look like big, round fish eyes, spilling from its mouth like scattered marbles, all gone mossy. They look like leering little gemstones, amid the grayish-green fluff.
They match the ones on Rennuid's hairpin.
The creature-turned-tree is massive. It's body has a silvery, willow-bark pallor, and it is long and loping, the trunk of the thing extending much farther back from the elf sleeping near to its head. Leaf litter has been piling up upon it like a heavy blanket. There's clear places on it where Rennuid's tried to clear that all away with his hands, before giving up and hiding his face against soft, papery curls of bark to... rest? ]
