And Callie was a goner
Who: Callan & You
What: The Lake Guardian escapes gay baby jail I mean prison I mean the lake—
When: Forward-dated 7/31
Where: The Grove
Warnings: usual Callan warnings apply, so this log will probably mention eating people & violence, as well as Callan's usual shapeshifting to have too many limbs/eyes/etc.
The fog wall imperceptibly rolls back after everyone arrives back on dry land, back to the safety of Aldric's Grove, where the scary wet creatures cannot get anybody anymore.
Well. All except one scary wet creature, who realises with a start that the fog wall is passing over his head, stopping in its roll-back at the opposite edge of the lake. Which means he's free. He can leave the lake.
Finally.
Thus does this half-corrupted Thing haul himself out of the lake on long, spindly human limbs and scuttle through the woods, making a three-day journey in the record time of about four hours, plowing over trees in his wake. And when he arrives at the Grove, he still doesn't stop moving; a blur of black is all anyone will see, a strange shape in the daylight, as Callan skitters forward and then pitches himself into the well.
...
Anyway, good luck with that, y'all.

[Listen he may not have all of his memories back but he does have the really stupid ones. Like remembering removing the corruption from the tree and wanting to try it on a person.
Callan is person shaped enough, right?]
I just need your hand real quick. It shouldn't take more than a few seconds, I think? Maybe?
[Should he be doing this in his current state? Probably not. Here he goes anyway.]
no subject
Which hand do you want? [He holds up his left hand.] This hand? [He holds up a second left hand.] Or this one? [And then a third left hand.] Pick a hand, scruffy guy!
no subject
Just. Hold still. And maybe quiet down just a little! Only for a few seconds while I focus!
[He waits, giving Callan a very skeptical look in the meanwhile.]
no subject
Oooh!
[Rests his chin on the edge of the well and waits like :3 ]

It made him worse. But things can't get much worse than he is right now, can they? And while Callan is much more different than a tree, Vash still feels the corruption like he feels his own. He focuses on it, just like he vaguely remembers focusing on the raw energy within JuLai, trying to draw it out.
If he can pull hard enough and compress it, maybe he can help them. And it worse came to worse, at least there would be just one vessel for the Forest to use, rather than two.]

Callan's Corruption has lightened since Mizuki and Livio have seen to him. It was always easy to take care of his conundrum; turns out there are more cures than just the obvious excising of the rot. Perhaps, if he was left alone for a bit, he would have fully regained himself, or perhaps he wouldn't have. There's no telling now.
The issue... is simply that Callan is still So, So Corrupted, and that Corruption is clinging onto the soul. With trees, it doesn't have much of a soul to cling onto. With a whole-ass Guardian? It's a raindrop in a lake. The ripples are felt, they're there, but it doesn't do much in the grand scheme of things.
Vash pulls on that Corruption and, perhaps luckily, Callan's soul is too resilient to be yanked out by this. So far, anyway. That doesn't mean much for Vash, though, who has to deal with blowback from this; the Corruption rubberbands, stretches, but doesn't fully detatch. Some of it goes, like pulling glue off of a new credit card, but not all of it.
What does go snaps off of Callan's arm and slaps Vash clear across the face with enough force to at least briefly stun him, if not knock him off his feet entirely, and of course... that rot enters him, too.
Callan has crawled halfway out of the well now, leaning over it in alarm. Vash is free to try again if he'd like to, but know that there will be further IC consequences to this that could affect Vash, Callan, or both of them negatively.]

In any case, he quickly looks to Callan, just to make sure he's alright. He sits forward, checking on the man's arm. Briefly, he does consider continuing but...
He remembers Wolfwood, how much he'd struggled when Vash came back different. He thinks about all they've been through over the last few months and... ultimately decides to pull back. If it were just up to him, if he would be the only one impacted, that would be one thing. But his partners need him, don't they.]
How - how do you feel.
no subject
[It is very clear by Callan's tone that he... does not understand. Why would Vash do this? Aren't there easier ways than endangering yourself further?]
no subject
[He's already waving his hands despite how he feels. His vision is distorting again, not fractal like before, but something different. Visions from new angles that he can't quite decipher. Oh boy!]
I just... wanted to try. If I could help people like this, it was worth a shot but - [He shakes his head. Whatever just happened, it wasn't good. And it easily could have been a lot worse, is the feeling he gets.]
no subject
[W-well, maybe... maybe let's not do that, but Callan is climbing out of the well like he might try.]
no subject
I don't know about eating him though. Seems, uh... Like he might taste bad! Yeah!
no subject
Oh, huh, what a good point. He turns around and sits on the edge of the well.]
Huh! Good point! Guess I just gotta go for the murder, huh?
no subject
O-or not even that! I don't know what, but... uh -
[He lowers his hands]
Let's focus on the smaller things first. Like uh. Clothes! How about that?

Did you wash it out, or is it still there?
no subject
Tryna turn it into a pearl, actually!

How's THAT working out for you?
