how to care for your sick bunny
Who: Mafuyu & You
What: That sick log I wanted two months ago-
When: Early winter
Where: The inn, probably!
Warnings: Illness!
( mafuyu's been quiet since her arrival, this is true on every level. but when the snow finally begins to fall, it worsens considerably. it may be a day between when you see her next, and there's the harsh sounds of coughing behind her inn room's door- she mostly goes for tea or a light soup, something easy to make and easy to stomach, before hobbling back to her room without a word to anyone.
at some point, a little deernicorn can be seen prodding the door open to go outside, leaving the door cracked. it goes on it's merry way but if it sees you in the hallway it at least beeps gently before looking back to her door and then resuming its way outside.
... there's another rough, body-shaking cough. )

[But as she got worse the more he worried and ...ah. An opportunity.]
[It's a wicked thing to do, to use such a thing as an opportunity to intrude the voice in the back of his mind taunts. You are a filthy person, wanting to care for someone for self-satisfaction.]
[Mayoi grits his teeth and banishes the dark thoughts, and instead very carefully pushes her door open.]
...M-Mafuyu-saaaan...?
no subject
( theres a rough mumble and a shift in the blankets before mafuyu finally unearths from the blankets. did she not close her door...? ... ah, maybe the deernicorn went... )
Don't come in... I don't know if I'm contagious...
no subject
Until he spots the deernicorn beeping at him in passing and seeming to... indicate something. Well. The door is left cracked open, and the coughing sounds worse than it did before.
He can't help it. Curiosity gets the better of him, and he pushes the door open just a little more, enough to make room for himself. ]
Hello...?
no subject
Mnn...? I...
( ...
what was she saying? shoot. )
no subject
Please forgive me, the door was...was open.
[Oh she does not look good at all. He comes in the rest of the way. He does not get close right away, but he will shake his head.]
N-No, it's okay. I'm certain I will be fine. Are you in need of anything? You're terribly unwell, Mafuyu-san...
no subject
... W-water. Please...
no subject
Sorry, but I couldn't help but hear your coughing from out in the hall.
[ His voice is even, measured, and soft. He's been in this role too many times to count. ]
May I come in?
no subject
( did he ever tell her his job? if he did, she doesn't remember right now. she just knows that these coughs are so painful, and she doesn't want anyone to have to deal with this, too. )
no subject
[ Which means, he isn't leaving. But he isn't entering fully, either. Hovering in the doorway, watching, listening. Her heart rate sounds as labored as her breathing. ]
I'll be fine. I'm a doctor.
no subject
( maybe it's childish, but that seems to alleviate any worry. a doctor. okay. that's good. )
... Okay.
no subject
And looks around at everything as he approaches the side of her bed, just to see what he has to work with on hand, if anything. ]
Sounds like you've been suffering from this for a little while. Can you tell me your symptoms?
no subject
( oh'p. right on cue, another coughing fit.
what was originally stress sickness became a particularly nasty cold with the onset snow, and it's been unforgiving. she hasn't felt this awful since she was a child. )
... S'hard to sleep...
no subject
[ He's listening. Making mental notes. Taking note of her condition. Chills means a fever. Trouble breathing is likely from mucus in the lungs, hence the cough. Heat to help clear the lungs, heavy on the broth to promote hydration and vital nutrients. Something to help her sleep. ]
Have you eaten? When did you last drink something?
no subject
[He's only gone for a few minutes, but when he returns he has more than just a glass of water. He's brought a tray with a small tea seat, a glass of water and a few metal tins.]
Here, do you need help sitting up...?
no subject
( she flops back down though, staying propped up on her arms is tiring and she's trying very hard to be coherent. please be proud of her. )
Ugh...
no subject
( that's a yes, though she makes a valiant effort to prop herself up on her own first... but her arm is shaking as she does so. )
no subject
Okay. Hydration is a priority, then. ]
Please, keep resting. I'm going to bring you something that should help.
[ He is SO PROUD mafuyu just keep resting you're doing great sweetie ]
no subject
( she
immediately flops back down. there's a loud FWUMP as she does so.
...
while you're there, though, jiaoqiu, one thing is very evident: not a single thing has been added to the room beyond a cushion for the deernicorn to sleep on.
not even extra blankets. )
no subject
Here, I'll bring you more soon, and I'll have some tea for you. While it's eating up I'll fetch some things from the kitchen below. Ah, you're quite warm to the touch aren't you...?
[He can't even scold her really, he'd have kept his illness to himself, too. It's frightening though. He should have checked in on her sooner.]
no subject
jiaoqiu can't really talk because his own room has basically just begun to accumulate medical supplies and ingredients and not much else
however. girl. you need to personalize. maybe josh can help with that someday
Jiaoqiu is gone for roughly 30 minutes before returning with a mug of steaming herbal tea and a bowl of hot broth. The warmth from both should serve to soothe the lungs and break down any mucus there, and the broth... well. It, uh. It's a bit on the spicy side. It certainly smells the part ahead of being tasted, if Mafuyu isn't congested. ]
Here you are. Please, drink both until they are empty. The tea should soothe your body to where you can get some good-quality sleep.
no subject
Thank you...
( surely the spice would burn. but no. there is only daze. )
no subject
... I thought it'd pass soon...
no subject
[He knows that you are the stubborn sort to try and do things on your own. He imagines this is how this happened to begin with. Once she's had the water, he'll carefully set her back down.]
It doesn't matter...if Mafuyu-san will have me, I will do my best to help. I'll be back in a moment.
no subject
( she does shrink down though, averting her eyes- guilt. she absolutely resisted rest...
...
he's going to leave, isn't he? somehow that's terrifying. )
...Y-you'll be back, right?
no subject
[Said a touch too miserably himself. As he heads to the door, he pauses, frowning a little. Then, he offers her a reassuring smile.]
Mafuyu-saaan, even your adorable pleading expression could not keep me away for very long, fufu. I'll be back soon.
no subject
( that gets her to move a little, confused and flustered. )
Um- o-okay. Okay...
( ...
is she flush from the fever or blushing? )
no subject
[Though down in the kitchen he gets to work quickly. A basic cough syrup is easy to make and from ingredients he's certain are here in the communal kitchen. Honey, lemon, and some fresh ginger boiled together in a pan...]
[He also just gathers up a few cloths and a bowl of warm water, too. When he's finally back, he's been gone for ...about 20 minutes, but still he returns with things!]
Mafuyu-saaaan...!
no subject
You're welcome.
[ The tea itself is a little bitter. He hasn't added any sweetener to it outside of a small dollop of honey for palatability. ]
The broth should go easy on your stomach and it should help push your body into healing those lungs of yours. I'd also be happy to make a syrup for you, for if your coughing gets overwhelming.
no subject
mafuyu is quiet this time, just nodding slowly as she drinks. sorry this is not an interesting tag- )
no subject
It's strange that she doesn't respond to the taste, but... it's possible that her taste buds are just severely affected by the illness. He's seen it happen more than once, so he doesn't think much of it. While Mafuyu eats and drinks, though, Jiaoqiu will glance around her room while scratching things down on a small notepad. It's notes for himself for later, but...
Now that he's not actively in doctor mode, he is noticing how sparse the room seems to be. Even his own short stay has accumulated some things. ]
... pardon me for asking, but have you been here long?
no subject
( another sip, another lack of reaction- though she does quickly put the tea down for a harsh cough. owies... )
Why?
no subject
[ He doesn't want to risk making her uncomfortable. No sense in that, especially while she isn't feeling well. His pencil stops scribbling, and he turns back to look at her. ]
It helps to make note of how long you've been here so that we can establish a medical history and determine possible causes.
no subject
That was forever-
( it was TWENTY MINUTES )
no subject
( she's very quiet for a moment, like she's trying to think but it's hard with the fever. )
I've only gotten sick one other time since middle school... I'm eighteen now. It was a year ago, when my work piled up too much unexpectedly. I don't remember it well, though. Um... aside from a zinc deficiency, I don't remember anything from my doctors though. But they don't know about that, either.
( what is... a filter? )
no subject
Ah, I see.
[ Zinc deficiency noted. ]
Have you felt stressed recently?
no subject
I had a fight with my mom and had to run away from home to get away from her, got kidnapped to another world, attacked by monsters and had to kill my evil clone.
Yes. Yes I have been very stress-
( she bursts into a series of harsh coughs again, the sort that shake the whole body. her breathing is ragged for a moment and she just leans back. )
no subject
I suggest you don't get yourself worked up. It will undo the progress.
[ Stress-related illness... The last couple of months have been stressful, and there's not much that can be done about that. There's no avoiding what happens here. ]
It sounds like the best course of action is to boost your immune system and implement a calming regime. If followed correctly, it may be able to combat the things that this place likes to put us through. I can't guarantee it, but it's better than nothing.
no subject
... but that's about it. )
... Sorry...
no subject
It's alright. You aren't feeling well.
[ He's quiet again for a moment as she tries the broth, watching for a response and...
Nothing. Hmm. ]
How is it? Tolerable?
no subject
( ...
that's it?
that's it. )
... Are you expecting something else?
no subject
[He will come over with his little jar of syrup and a spoon, setting down the rest of his things on whatever table she might have in the room.]
May I assist you in sitting up again...? I have something that should help soothe that wretched cough of yours.
no subject
( mumbled with a nod as she at least turns herself around so she's not laying on her stomach.
the only table is the one by the window and the nightstand, which is probably closer for his needs. it's bare as can be, save for the cushion left on the floor for the deernicorn to sleep on.
...
it feels incredibly hollow, with it's only other occupant as listless and sick as she is. )
Don't leave again. Please...
no subject
[Say "ah" Mafuyu, he's got a spoon full of something-]
...Ah, I am dreadfully sorry for making you worry, Mafuyu-san. I... [He can't possibly decline when she asks him like that, but also... the feeling that someone would say that to him, in this place, it makes his heart both sing and ache at the same time.] I will stay ...for however long you would like me. I've nowhere I'd rather be.
[Now, he will administer the syrup. She can't ...taste it, sadly, but it will feel nice on her throat. It's just honey, lemon, and ginger, but it works wonders.]
I've prepared some cloths for your forehead, too.
no subject
Typically, when I add "too much" chili to a dish, I get complaints. It's nice to see someone with a high spice tolerance for a change.
no subject
Yes, that's what it is.
no subject
Well! He won't press it, but he will certainly tuck it away in his mind. ]
Well, it should warm you and stimulate your lungs in the process. Plus, the broth is filled with nutrients that your body currently needs to get better, so please, drink all that you can stomach.
Do you have any questions? Anything else that's troubling you?
no subject
( she takes another drink, resting against the pillows. her throat feels... not wartorn, at least. so that's nice. )
no subject
Well, if you do think of anything, you know how to get in touch with me. For the time being, I suggest a lot of rest and a nutritious diet. The rest, I think, is the most crucial.
