There's a lot he can say. Ask Add if there's something he can do to install those safety measures, or ask if there's something Mizuki can help with in that research, or attempt to point out that he could easily just kill whoever poses a threat to them in that regard, but instead, he's just going to point blank answer Add's question. ]
Because I want to be a part of that link, too.

but it is a professional, practical relationship, and not anything weird, so he quickly tries to pull his hands from the hold—god, is he blushing? he's the one making this weird, stop overthinking it—]
Rapid communications would be easier with a direct link of that nature... but, are you sure? I want to be clear with you, this wouldn't be a simple or straightforward operation. I would need to perform a variety of tests before even attempting anything, considering your differences in biology. There's no guarantee it would be a success. It would also be difficult to reverse... utilizing the implant correctly would take practice, it can also be overwhelming to use. Dynamo is a drone designed for this type of purpose so they have no difficulty following and understanding orders, but the same can't be said for organic beings. Even I had trouble adapting to it at first, and I was able to dedicate multiple years to mastering its use.
Moreover... I consider Dynamo my partner, but you should also understand that our relationship is subservient. I can control them, and that control only goes one way. Typically, Nasods only form this type of connection with subservient units for that reason... even if it's not necessary for one side to take control, the risk of that happening will always exist. And if the two units are equally matched, there's a risk of disagreements leading to a battle of control... as someone without any experience with Nasod technology, you would be at a distinct disadvantage.
Not that I would try to control you... [.........] I just want you to be aware of the risks.
no subject
"Subservient," I can do that too! "No difficulty following and understanding orders," I can do that too!!! These are all just immense pros to Mizuki, he's not sure what the issue is? This all sounds fantastic, even. To be useful all the time, to be connected all the time, to have Add in his head… in his head, in his head, his commander, one with him—- hhh… Mania stage two achieved! It's worse, somehow. He doesn't even seem to care about the blue hue that comes to his cheeks, allowing Add to take his hands out from his if that's what he wants (because he's very good at this, yes, see? Look at him! Doing what you want!), buuuut it doesn't save Add from his hold. Instead of his hands, Mizuki just ends up grabbing onto the front of his PJs, practically shaking with delight.
Can he form full sentences? He hopes so. His brain is having a hard time being coherent because it's just making awful delighted chirps. ]
I trust you with everything I have, Doctor Add~. So long as I can be an asset to you, these risks don't phase me. Ah… ahaha, to be able to do something like that… you're so smart. I never seen someone do that with technology before…
no subject
I trust you with everything I have, Doctor Add...
... he can't hide the tiny shiver, nor the shocked look that remains frozen on his face. An asset to him... a willing, trusting pawn... but he couldn't do something like that to Mizuki... could he?
He clears his throat, once again struggling to regain his composure. Keep it professional. This is... just a practical, business-oriented discussion between allies, and Mizuki is simply enthusiastic about the potential. And if it just happens to align with his experimental Overmind technology—]
I didn't invent it, to be clear... I simply spent some time refining an existing technology for use by myself. Adjusting it to work with humans still needs some tweaks...
... If we go through with this, I'll have to ask that we keep it between us. This technology is... [his secret backup plan that he really doesn't want anyone poking their nose into] it would be dangerous in the wrong hands, so it's better if no one knows about it for now. Can you do that for me?
no subject
“This is just business,” is a load of horseshit. Mizuki feels that shiver — hard not to with where his hands are — and it means a lot to him that Add is excited about the idea, too. He… wants to become one with Mizuki, right? That’s what that means?? That’s what that means?????? ]
Perfecting something is… incredible all the same. You don’t have to be the inventor to have amazing uses of something…
[ Just, like, play Minecraft, Add, you’ll see what he means— ]
Of course! It’s a secret… Ah, but… that means… that means, that means you want to? You’re gonna… use that for me, right?? You- you, you, you would really really really really do this for someone like me?
Aha… ahaha, of course you’re allowed in my head! in, in, in— you just let me know what to do and what to get and I’ll do anything you ask, Doctor…
[ Oh, he’s really going through it now, huh? He’s so excited, he feels like he might just explode. Probably why he’s shaking like a leaf — the excitement is just too much. He tries to say more, praising Add some more or asking him questions or something, but all that comes out is a sort of twisted, breathy laugh.
He can’t keep all this inside? He has to have some kind of outlet for this surge of elation, else he’ll just end up as a puddle on the ground and embarrass himself in front of his commander (too late for that). He wants… wants wants to show Add his appreciation, though. What should he say? What should he do? These are questions he wants to ask Add, but the thought just sends him reeling again. Soon, he won’t have to ask, right? He’ll just… have these orders?
Ah.
This train of thought is far too much for the jellyfish, and before he can properly figure out how to handle his emotions in the moment, instinct kicks in. He shuffles himself in the rest of the way, leaning against Add’s arm with his face, and just… without any warning at all, sinks his teeth into the flesh there. (Sorry about your PJs…)
His commander. How fun. ]
no subject
As much as he wants to take advantage of this, he has to prioritize the well-being of his allies. He puts his hands on the Aegir's shoulders, trying to gently create some space again.] Mizuki, are you—
[and the next thing he knows is that Mizuki is biting him.
Obviously, he is going to yelp in pain because he is being bitten... at least he doesn't panic, because he can tell (knowing what Mizuki is like when he's not being friendly) that this isn't intended as an aggressive or threatening action. He doesn't feel anything off through their painlink, either. Mizuki is just... feeling bitey. for some reason.
Add is still going to calmly try to remove Mizuki's face from his arm, though. Forced smile, strained voice:] Mizuki. Why don't you sit down first?
[He's not mad... ok, he might be a little mad, these are new PJs and Elsword said they were cute and everything.]
no subject
…Had he done something wrong? He's only bleeding a little… Oh, it's… because he's touching Add, right? He wasn't thinking about that. He just got so excited. This was something he's always wanted, it kind of felt like he's dreaming. He just wanted to be closer. Like maybe they could just skip the whole brain chip part and just meld directly into Add?? That's fine, right? He's allowed?
…
Oh, wait, no, that's all… wrong, actually. He should've been more respectful. But, more than that, he hurt Add. A feeling of panic filters in with the concern. ] I'm- [ Should he… apologize? That won't fix anything. Add's mad. Add's mad, mad, mad at him. No, no, no…
Frantically, he moves away from Add looking around the room for bandages of some kind or disinfectant. Add's a doctor, so surely there's something he can bring to him to fix this. He takes whatever his stingers can find and collects them to hold them out to Add, physically keeping a good couple feet of actual distance from him now. ]
Here- sorry. Do you need me to- [ Bad idea. ] I can get Elsword to- [ Then he'll be mad, too. ] …Sorry.
no subject
Multiple layers of penetration... I'd be impressed, if I hadn't already seen you eat Moder raw. [He sighs, taking the disinfectant... his anger has mostly dissipated, he really is just annoyed about the hole in his sleeve. He'll have to bug Caoimhe later... but for now, he's cleaning up the bitewound and Mizuki can help him put the bandage on. He says nothing on Mizuki's behaviour for now, only giving a handful of simple first aid instructions.
But once the bite is taken care of, he gestures for Mizuki to sit—on the bed in the corner, or his desk chair, whatever works. Add can sit on his hovering Dynamos.]
Mizuki... why are you so interested in a mental link?
no subject
I suppose… there's a lot of reasons. It'd be hard to just answer that in a succinct way.
[ A pause. This both gives him time to think about how he's meant to start, but also just to look Add over for any kind of signal he's not ready to hear the whole thing.
He supposes, if he were to really, truly think about it, the answer would probably be something as simple as "because my own hivemind is incomplete and it makes me long for it," but Mizuki doesn't really piece that together as an issue. Not really, not when there are so many other reasons for him to seek something like this out. Thus, after confirming he's allowed to continue, he does. ]
I don't really… connect with other people. I don't understand them well, and a lot of time I can't figure out the things they need or the things they want from me intuitively. I'm very good at taking orders and following directions, but… lacking that sort of bond makes things… not as smooth. It also… [ Sigh. ] It also means I don't have to make quick decisions on my own anymore. I've never, ever gotten those right, so it would be nice to have someone else to tell me what the right thing to do there is.
But I think the most important thing is that you are… [ How does he keep the gushing to a minimum here? ] You are kind and intelligent and proactive and resourceful and you're not afraid to make tough choices and you're absolutely everything that defines both a good leader and a good person. I compared you to a constellation earlier, and it's true, I think. If you shine like the stars, then I'd be a fool to not want to be blessed the that radiance.
no subject
but then he starts praising Add. He expects this type of response from Mizuki by now, but hearing all this embarrassing stuff said out loud... even if it's literally what he's always wanted people to believe about him, isn't this a bit much?]
You should know that flattery won't influence my decision. [he's not blushing shut up
He sighs, thinking on it a little longer... Mizuki really is the ideal candidate for his plan. He wants this. Even knowing the risks and consequences, how much control Add would have... Add should be jumping on this, but he's still hesitating. Why is Add the one who suddenly doesn't want to do it?
Maybe it's because Mizuki is already so loyal. Mind control would be a messy, unneeded step. How could he even study the results if Mizuki would do everything he asks regardless? The data would be worthless without any resistance, and causing Mizuki to resist would be a step backwards.
Or... maybe it's the way Mizuki is describing everything. Thinking about it as a bond, a connection, rather than just a line of communication. Talking about how much he admires Add and his intelligence. When put into that context... suddenly it all sounds very intimate. Are there any rules about creating hiveminds with other people when it comes to dating? Or is that okay? He can't ask his therapist so who's he supposed to go to for advice, he CANNOT try to explain this to Heimr—]
... I'm not that special. [pushing aside all of those other thoughts for now, let's just focus on what he has an answer to] If you're expecting something amazing to happen, or for me to solve all your problems and guide you day to day, I wouldn't want you to be disappointed. I'm still only human, with human limitations.
[through the painshare, he's... a little guilty, a little anxious. it's the impostor syndrome.]
no subject
But, unfortunately,
I rolled a 2Mizuki's obsessive side is not happy with that outcome. The mere thought of it makes him tense. After all, this isn't just some thing he can be nonchalant about when it's something he's always, always, always wanted. To share a link like that with his commander. With someone good. With a hero. A hivemind with someone with a moral stance he can understand, and who tries to do the right thing, and not three eldritch gods who understand humanity very little and run mostly on instinct and a fourth who grieves constantly in wake of disaster its kin has wrought.Add makes mistakes. Add owns up to them. Add has complex thoughts and doesn’t see things in black and white and has feelings about the world around him beyond just a need to survive. ]
You misunderstand. It’s that humanity that is so incredibly amazing in you, Doctor Add. I don't need you to solve them, but to take a human approach, to look at it through that lens of yours that is so, so good. If you think your humanity is a limitation, you are so very wrong.
[ We don't agree. We think this is a waste. We are too different, he won't understand. But Mizuki is determined. Add will understand. Add is a good person. Add cares. He and Elsword are perhaps the epitome of that "goodness" that Mizuki adores so much. If he could even reach out to touch just a little bit of their light, that would be satisfactory to him. Maybe a little too literally, for that thread of compassion and anxiety of caring for Add's needs and wants and his wellbeing snaps in favor of the needy, obsessed and frankly quite delusional part of him. Once again he's perhaps too close for comfort, taking Add's hand to press it against his cheek. ]
I wouldn't be disappointed, because the choices would be yours, Doctor Add. And that's what would be special to me.
no subject
A human approach, augmented by machine precision and logic. Maybe that's enough of a balance?]
... I'll give you a few days to think about it. This isn't a decision you need to rush into.
[gently... pulling his hand away from Mizuki's cheek... all this physical contact is making him feel weird]
If by then you're still certain... I'll make some preparations, and we'll see if the technology is compatible. There's a chance it might not work on you, so I don't want you to get too invested in the idea. Differences in biology means the chip has to be calibrated to every new user. Add in a new species and it could be a long development time. If the initial tests are too overwhelming I should be able to remove it at that stage...
[add thinking poor mizuki won't be prepared to have external thoughts in his head when rly the jelly is more suited to this than he is]
no subject
This is nice, too, though. Were Mizuki a pettier person, and not in tune with the Seaborn, he may have even gone on to be like "told you so" into the hivemind. He doesn't, instead he's just extremely delighted. We Many simply enjoys this with him. ]
I came to you this morning because I've been thinking so extensively about it. I guarantee my mind is made up on the matter, but if you need a few days, I understand. [ He is… a little leery about it, if just because Add seems the type to talk himself out of things that he's initially hesitant on. He'd really like an answer now, but that isn't fair to Add. If it's something he really, truly doesn't want, then it's not up to Mizuki to force it on him. As much as he might want to, he cares about him too much. That's how you ruin someone's trust in you, isn't it? He doesn't want that. ] You can take all the time you need to figure it out, though. I'll be an interesting experiment, at the very least, right~?
no subject
No... this time is for Add to try to understand. What are Mizuki's real motivations? Is Add taking advantage of him somehow, or could there be an ulterior motive? He doesn't want to believe Mizuki has been lying to him to earn his trust, but he can't completely dismiss that possibility, either. It just doesn't feel like he's earned this...]
You're not my guinea pig, so don't call it an "experiment". If Elsword heard that... [he got mad enough when Add was using the terminology for their relationship, if he heard Add calling their dear friend an experiment... ugh] No, no, Elsword cannot find out about this. No one can know, but especially not him. There's no way he'd approve...
[Now Add is feeling even more doubtful... he's never been in a relationship before, is this going to fuck everything up?? He can't guarantee Elsword won't find out when they live in such close quarters, it's an impossible task with incredibly high risks. What if he finds out about the Overmind program and can never see Add the same way...]
no subject
[ There's a quick glance to the door, then back to Add. ]
I won't tell him if that's truly what you want. I'm good at keeping secrets. However, I do feel a little uncomfortable with omitting things from Elsword. Do you truly think this is something he'd be against? Is sharing something like this, even if it is in it's trial phase, still not with good intentions? I believe a mental link as such would even help Elsword with his emotional numbness. If emotions really are just chemicals in the brain, anyway, wouldn't receiving signals from others help that process along?
Just a thought. You can disregard it if you're still against it. I'll keep quiet.
no subject
He's being paranoid, but this feels like a necessary degree of caution. This isn't something he should talk about... but... maybe, possibly... could Mizuki... understand? It's needlessly risky, but... how else can he explain? The reason why Elsword would never approve...
He exhales, a sound halfway between a sigh and a laugh. What a mess this is already. He hasn't even done anything yet.]
... I didn't develop this technology to connect with people. The Overmind program... has a specific purpose. Elsword wouldn't like it.
I like our current relationship, so I'd rather not ruin things over something avoidable. It's better that he doesn't know.
[Elsword thinks he knows Add... but maybe he doesn't. Maybe he wouldn't like the "real" Add. He'd rather keep presenting the person Elsword does like than risk him discovering an ugly truth.]
no subject
Aha…haha… How fun. A secret with Doctor Add, then?? Oh I like that thought, I do, I do, but… You two are perfect together. So, if he does find out, and if he tries anything, I can just give him a few stings and he'll be seeing whatever illusions I want. So it's okay, he won't leave you ever, ever, ever.
[ Hhh… He wants to… chew on him a little more. ] Do you need anything from me? Organic material that rapidly evolves and assimilates, maybe? I don't know if you can incorporate organic material into your technology, but you're so incredibly smart, I couldn't say the sorts of things you need.
no subject
He has to at least try to reign it in, though. But Mizuki will probably notice how he relaxes, some of the anxiety from earlier ebbing away.]
I'd rather not resort to that... but I'll keep the offer in mind. [it's really nice, having someone who likes and cares about him without any need for mind control... he wants to treasure that for as long as possible.]
Organic material... from what, exactly? Yourself? A more thorough biosample would be useful, I'll need to do some tests to make sure the implant won't be rejected. Come to think of it, I don't believe I've taken a sample of your blood yet?
cw: body horror
Mhmm, from me. Ideally, from a tentacle, since they grow back as is. My flesh is a little more… [ He makes a vague gesture with his hand before he just decides a visual is better. He reaches up, and with absolutely no hesitation despite previously being so squicked about his neck, just casually lifts it so Add can see the scar. Or, rather, so Add could see what was probably once a scar, but now was covered in very unsettling, white, almost sea-like flora. In a weird way, they seemed… fleshy? The parts of the cut on his neck — that spanned nearly half the surface area — that were deepest had blue flowers sprinkled in. If there was a morbid way of explaining it, it looked a bit like someone just cut open Mizuki's neck to use him like a vase. ]
This happens. It's a little harder to hide, so I'd really prefer to avoid it~. You understand, Doctor?
[ Enthused pats with his tentacles. This here is just… implicit trust. ]
no subject
He stands up, eyes locked on the strange wound while a dynamo fetches the glasses for him... upon further examination, it doesn't look like forest corruption, so this must really be related to Aegir biology? Or maybe a disease from his homeworld? He wants a closer look, so he crosses the short distance between them, one hand hovering at the edges of Mizuki's neck. Not quite close enough to touch it yet...]
Interesting... so, this is something you need to hide? [He doesn't get why, but he's not going to question it. Mizuki has a secret of his, so this seems fair. They can both keep quiet.] What is it, exactly? Or is this just a natural phenomenon for your species?
[... he really wants to study it closer. Without thinking, he's already drawing in two of his dynamos, needles poised uncomfortably close to Mizuki's neck. Just a little more, and he could extract a sample directly...]
no subject
It is, yes… [ Beat. ] But in that sense, I had been lying a little to you. And everyone else. It's not something anyone is really supposed to know back home, so that's a secret I'll share with you, too.
[ Secret for secret, just to let Add know that Mizuki truly is going to be a good and loyal test subject. ]
I'm something called "Seaborn". We regenerate, evolve, and adapt at highly accelerated rates than most people.
no subject
Seaborn...]
Fascinating. [he might be tugging on one of the weird flesh-flowers, just a little bit. yknow, just to see how Mizuki reacts... maybe he can have one to study up close if he's quick.] Kuku, it looks quite beautiful... is something similar on your injured hand as well? Ah, I should've noticed the odd readings sooner. I suppose it can't be helped, since I've never met an Aegir before either.
no subject
And Mizuki knows that Add is just taking a scientific interest in it. He doesn't blame him, the few (a whole two) doctors at Rhodes who were allowed to see also were fascinated by it from a medical standpoint. But there's still something a little dizzying to hear someone you look up to, someone you idolize, someone you would follow and be commanded by no matter what say that the worst, most abominable, most shameful part of him that he actively keeps hidden because people of his world would hate him for it… call it beautiful.
… Ah.
He's alright. He's just a little woozy. Ignore the blue on his cheeks, he's not blushing, you're blushing— ]
…I haven't been checking on my hand, [ or the part of his arm he took a chunk out of ] but I imagine it's probably got the same growths, if you'd like to look at that, too?
no subject
But he can still multitask. Dynamo shifts positions, moving down to check on Mizuki's more recent injuries. They're still not stabbing him (yet).]
Then I'll have to start checking on you more, now, won't I? [He let it slide before since Mizuki was so insistent and the scans seemed okay... he's used to having teammates that can just regenerate like that. But if he knows Mizuki's secret, that means he has to be the only one who can treat them now, right? A job that's exclusively his and no one else's. His obedient little pawn that needs to be cared for...]
I am your doctor, after all. Kukukukukuku...
no subject
Mizuki, once again, is overwhelmed. It’s not jealousy or excitement, he’s just embarrassed and a little confused because he doesn’t know why his heart is pounding so fast. He knows Add doesn’t mean it like that, and he knows he doesn’t have feelings for him (lol), so why why why???
…
Before Add can get any closer, Mizuki sort of just… loses structure. Which is to say much akin to how he slides under the door, everything just gets a little jelly-like…
And he flops to the floor. ]
