[ He points this out, gesturing to his crossbow. He's more than likely had to take out creatures that strayed too close. Till should know how deadly he is with it. ]
Safety in numbers. You risk getting ambushed like this.
[Till...opens his mouth without thinking, moreso because he's just so surprised hearing that, especially with the sort of strained existence Faust and Till have had around each other so far.]
Mephisto likes you. He seems to trust you if he agreed to live with you. It would upset him if you died just as losing me again would probably shatter him. He's been through enough pain, so yes. I will protect you.
[ Clearly Till can't protect himself very well. ]
Besides. If he likes you, I want to see why. I can't do that if you're dead.
[ This is meant more lighthearted than it probably sounds. The only real indication of such is a faint smile. ]
[Till huffs...trust him Faust, he doesn't often understand why Mephisto has agreed to stay around him either. Their relationship is complicated, and if Mephisto were to be asked, he'd just claim to be using Till, just how Till feels like Mephisto is the only person here who has ever been actually real with him. Well, barring a few slowly budding exceptions.
Either way, he shifts his weight back on his heels and adjusts the makeshift weapon he'd been holding in his hands, still occasionally glancing past Faust's shoulder like he thinks he might see something there. It isn't Faust's fault that his very visage is enough of a reminder of what he's been seeing for days now.]
Death comes even if you don't expect it. There's no such thing as fair in a situation like this.
[ Spoken from experience. He's had to shoulder the responsibility for the loss of men under his command before that should have been safe... that said, he's too perceptive not to notice how Till looks at him. ]
[Honestly, Till has never experienced "fair" in his entire life. He doesn't think anything he's ever been through has been fair...it's all just been bad. Bad situation after bad situation...up until he showed up here, which is saying a lot.
He tenses up though when Faust suddenly calls him out, and for a moment he falters, unsure of what to say.]
No. It... [He grimaces and looks away.] It's not you.
You flinch whenever you look at me. Am I that bad to look at?
[ A little joke, sort of. He knows it's not really his appearance. Maybe it's more what he is. It wouldn't be the first time he was spat at or considered repugnant for being a Phidia. ]
[And he does mean that literally. He knows Faust is like the other people from Terra...similar to the Segyein, but different. Animalistic, but more human than that. That he doesn't have an issue with. It's different, but not something he's offended by or anything.
...you look a lot like somebody I used to know, s'all.
It's hard to pinpoint the way that makes him feel. He can't exactly change how he looks in any meaningful way, nor does he particularly want to. The boy's tail flicks behind him uneasily, unsure of what he should do. Should he leave? Should he offer comfort? It feels like anything would be a wrong move at this point. ]
Do you want me to leave?
[ He doesn't really want to. It's still dangerous here. Till still needs help whether he wants it or not. But if he's going to make matters worse... ]
...no. Like I said, it's fine. S'not like it's your fault.
[Part of him wishes he'd just kept that to himself, but...he figures it would have just been more awkward if he didn't explain. That, or Faust would have kept asking.]
It's a coincidence, probably. I don't have any problem with you.
[ It's hard to let something like that go when you don't understand why you're being treated strangely. That said he doesn't really want to make things worse for Till by being pushy about it either. ]
Okay. Do you think you'll get used to it or..? Should I do something?
[ All he knows is to do something about issues. This is one of the weird ones where he cant really do anything ]
[Till feels a sort of mounting anxiety brewing in the pit of his stomach, and he's not sure if it's because he knows "Ivan" is still out there, or because he's definitely unfairly put a lot of pressure on Faust, or what...but it ends up translating into frustration as he grits his teeth and starts to say-]
I told you, it's f-
[But then, he suddenly stops. He goes completely silent, because he's staring not at Faust, but at something behind him in the distance.
Someone.
Faust will be able to see it for himself. A man older than him...but a man that- if they were both the same species- could potentially be his older brother, watching them serenely as if he's just politely waiting for an opportunity to speak.]
[ He blinks at the cutoff, tail lashing as he turns to follow Till's line of sight.
The resemblance is uncanny, he'll admit, but it doesn't stop him from raising his crossbow. If this were any other situation, it probably wouldn't raise his hackles so much, but it clearly spooked Till enough to run off, so there were no holds barred.
It's telling that what was tailing Till looked like some kind of ghost of a person he knew. The glimpses he's caught of the creatures after he and Mephisto were similar...
Well, he could buy him more time, if nothing else. He sort of doubted Till would want to see him shoot holes into this guy given... how the older man looks already.
One moment the two were perfectly visible and the next... gone. For Till, he would be able to see Faust, but slightly transparent. He lifts a finger to indicate keeping quiet and began leading them away. ]
[Till is...unusually silent, in this moment. It's hard to tell if he's just trying to follow Faust's instructions to a tee, or if he's just...that scared. No, scared is too light of a term.
Petrified is a more apt description. He is not fucking moving.
But he just has to wonder...is it enough? Can "ghosts" see through this sort of power? It's hard to tell, because Ivan is still approaching, but...
It doesn't look like Ivan knows where they are. He's approaching, but not...necessarily as directly at them anymore.]
