the evening of cacaos return (the day after the rain, before the grove)
[ Once he's healed and calm enough, he will write in the notebook, his usual elegant script shorter and neater. ]
Hello, my friends. I regret to write you that it seems the beast that lurks in the woods has received a name. I do not know how, only that he has, and it has strengthened him. Please keep yourselves safe, and ward your minds as you sleep if you can, as he will strike there as he desires in an attempt to force you to say his new name.
He can and will hurt those around you to force you to submit.
If you do find yourself in a mental confrontation with him, please simply do your best to flee. He is powerful and while he can bleed, he can be hurt, I don't wish any of you to be injured in the process.
[ Telling them it can be hurt might make some of them foolish, but it's a hope they need. The Creature can be injured. ]
Please, stay safe.

[But most importantly:]
Hey, thanks for the heads up, but are you okay? Did he hurt you? Do you need anything, man?
no subject
He did, but I am healed, and am as well as I can be. I am thankful the injuries were not grievous.
no subject
Right. Hey, so, I was experimenting with some of the fruit fauna here on the beach and came up with a new recipe. They're kind of like stuffed fruit turnovers, and I have a few two many left over from test batches, sssoo...
[Let him come over and feed you, peepaw.]
no subject
Of course, my dear, I would never turn down a taste test of some food! I am sure they're wonderful!
no subject
Awesome. I'll be over in a little while. I've got some things to bring you anyway.
[Dipper like. Knocks on the beam of the cabana but he's probably coming in anyway.]
Mr. PV?
no subject
[ Maybe not so strangely enough, he's wearing his old robes, because the high neck keeps his throat covered. He beams as he steps out of the bed room and gestures for Dipper to take a seat on the couch, before moving to sit on the other cushion. ]
... Thank you for visiting.
no subject
[But not before walk over to him and handing him a little plate of fruit danishes. For ""test"" batches, the sure look nice.]
Of course. I'm like, worried about you, dude? What you said sounded really serious.
[He will go sit down, but as he does, he will casually rumage through the bag he brought with him.]
no subject
His tail does wiggle over the food though, pleased. ]
It... unfortunately is. I have not heard of him entering dreams before.
[ He will pick up one of the danishes and take a little bite, immediately looking pleased, even as he winces when he swallows. ]
Delicious! You must really join Fel in baking, I am sure the two of you would come up with something magnificent.
no subject
[While he is happy that PV approves of his cooking, he is a little worried when he seems to have trouble swallowing. Ah, so the guy really did try to throttle him.]
Haha, thanks. I might um, ask the guy who owns that restaurant if he's looking for help. We we can go back, that is.
[Dipper pulls out something that looks like it's been wrapped in paper. A small box.]
Not just that, but to be able to cause physical harm through the dreamscape. That's ...not something that's easily done. It's actually pretty concerning. Not even the dream demon I know from back home could do that unless he was seriously straining the host he was possessing.
no subject
[ He falls silent, thoughtful, as he picks at the danish he had bitten in to. The type of picking from a person who doesn't eat a lot. Peepaws not a post because he's old. ]
Indeed... I am unsure who gave him the name, but it seems to have empowered him quite a bit. That he would even be able to reach this far with a physical manifestation speaks of it.
[ His heart aches for Fel, she didn't deserve that. He studies the box, curious, but not prying. ]
I am thankful it seems he only did so due to my helping heal Nene, but it means should he feel slighted by anyone, he has the ability now to do so.
no subject
[He holds the box in his lap for a moment.]
All that work we put into not saying or giving him any kind of name or designation, switching between how we refer to him, it seems like it just blew up in our faces. Ugh.
[And of course he is thinking about two things. He's thinking about how wretched the idea that one of them might be a betrayer and they have no way to know who right now, and that him being one of the newest members of the grove might put him under scrutiny. It makes him anxious to think about, but he does his best to not let that be too obvious.]
I bet he hopes that scares us. That he can show up at anytime and torment us. Man it makes me so mad, he really is just like Bill Cipher.
no subject
[ He's old and a Cookie, Dipper, he doesn't understand your hip lingo.
Though he does shake his head gently, frowning thoughtfully. ]
Not quite. We know at least one person has named him, and he forced me to say his name, but so long as other's do not - so long as they continue to downplay him - it shall afford us some power over him.
[ There's not a suspicious bone in Pure Vanilla's body. For all he knows, Dipper could have indeed been the one and poisoned him via the food, but here he is, putting danish in his mouth with his fingers. ]
Fear... Anger. It's what he - it - feeds on. I... cannot find itself in me to be angry. I pity it.
no subject
[He sighs a bit, nodding.] We can still push back in that way, right? If there's still more people downplaying him, than not. [He hopes anyway.]
[He watches Vanilla for a moment, some of that anger flooding out of him. Mabel would really like this guy, he thinks. She's also the kind of person who can see goodness and beauty in everything around her.]
[He stands up to hand him the box.]
I honestly think something like pity is way more affective against an entity like that, anyway. I hope you told them you pitied it to his face.
[Dipper is a petty, vengeful little ball of spite, actually.]
Anyway ...I brought you something that may or may not help. I haven't had the chance to do a lot of testing with it here vs back home but... the box has a few Paleblood bloodstones, which are good magical conduits for anything involving dreams, prophecy, spirits, and the mind. There's also a few small candles made with the same Paleblood. They can strengthen rituals used for warding. Handle them with gloves. You're not from Trench so, there might be ...side effects with direct contact.
[He pauses.]
Sorry, it isn't much, but, I hope it will keep you guys a little safer.
no subject
Who hopefully will not.
The box suddenly being handed over startles him, and he stops picking at his danish to take it, gently cleaning his fingers off. And manages a smile to the pettiness. ]
I did. I do not believe it liked it much.
[ His throat attests.
The description of what's in the boxes makes Vanilla pause, looking surprised. Then incredibly touched. ]
... Thank you, my dear. I am sure they will come in handy. [ A little smile. ] Especially considering you wished to learn some of my magic, did you not? We can put them to use as lessons begin when we are finally able to return to the Grove.
[ Which will be sooner than he realizes. His Staff eyes the box for him, thoughtful. ]
They sound almost like our Moonstones. Our most powerful magics are based on the Celestial Bodies, especially the Moon, and thus the Moonstone is a powerful conduit for many a thing. Would you like one to experiment with?
no subject
[Dipper is pleased. People who are good like Vanilla should weaponize pity. Dipper on the other hand, will find a way to beat Suri's ass on the astral plane for hurting this nice old man.]
Oh man, would I! Is that okay? For you to just give me one?
[He's clearly excited, though. Look at how he perks up.]
I-I mean, yeah, they sound similar. Paleblood has to be under moonlight to be potent at all, so it also has a strong connection to the moon. My powers work a lot better at night, too, for that reason.
no subject
[ Plus it moves the topic off the creature. A warning, and then move on. The less the spend on the idea of that fallen being, the better. Vanilla won't give it anymore time of day.
The perking makes him smile, cute. He should buy his library back before he does so. ]
Ah! So they are related, in a theoretical sense.
[ Since he does have a glove on already over his left hand, he opens the box to peek inside, carefully using the glove to handle the items, shifting them around inquisitively. ]
Direct contact may have adverse reactions?
no subject
[He is going to be such a nerd about this. Anyway it's true, it's good to get off the topic. He's sure PV doesn't want to talk about it anymore than necessary, either.]
I know that when people use them for jewelry, they can sometimes make people see visions or hallucinations if they're sensitive to stuff like that. I don't think it'll be a problem for most people here, but again, I've never used them outside of Trench.
no subject
[ Don't worry, Dipper, you've found a nerd in Pure Vanilla. Focusing on these helps immensely to take his mind off everything else. ]
What often are they used for? Offensive or defensive? Spirits and the mind, hm... They might be useful for warding if defensive. Though I do not know if we can enspell them strong enough to prevent it from entering minds, it would be worth a shot, if you would like to workshop with me!
