All of that goes out the window once Ain shows off his hand. He'd overlooked it at first, thinking it was part of whatever the dragon getup is about—but no, that mark is something else entirely. Like burns in wood from a lightning strike. Black, twisting and ugly.
He's still scowling, frozen in place as Ain shows off his scars, but there's a new layer of anger under the surface. The more he hears, the more clouded his expression gets. It's only when Ain moves to hide it again that Add seems to snap—grabbing his wrist in one hand while the other goes straight for his shirt, pushing it back up again. There's a light snap of static at his touch, leaning in close to get a full and proper look. Fuck your personal space—]
What the hell do you mean, it takes something? When did this happen? How long ago? [Dynamo starts to crowd, too, not that there's anything they can do here. They jitter in the air, echoes of anxious energy honed into rage.]
Tch, who the hell was leading this attack? What kind of idiot lets the healer take a hit, are they fucking stupid? And you! Are you even good to be healing right now?! I'm not carrying your ass anywhere if you pass out on me!
[nag nag nag, he's practically forgotten that he's got a whole hand up Ain's shirt right now]
no subject
[Ain, who has definitely been stabbed before, squeaks when he's electrocuted like a Real Man. A Real Adventurer.
For what it's worth, Ain will stand close and let Add investigate all he wants, mostly because he knows better than to try yanking himself away right now. At best, he'd fall back on his ass and look like a fool, and that's not even accounting for Add's grip strength when he's pissed off.]
It takes something — a body part like a limb, or a memory, or something like an ability. Lots of people here are missing eyes or limbs from dying and coming back. It happened in January, so two months ago. [Flat, basic answers, said between pursed lips.] It was mutually agreed upon by all of us, but I guess the leaders are Mr. Crane and Mr. Snow Leopard, who live in the lab, but they also died, so don't get too mad at them. It's not their fault.
And they didn't "let" me take the hit! Getting cut in half was not on anyone's agenda, and maybe if I hadn't been hovering overhead, I would've been out of the line of fire! [And finally, through grit teeth:] I can heal just fine, and I'm not on the verge of passing out! Where did you get that impression?!
no subject
[He scoffs, letting go of Ain to stand up... and immediately remembering why he was sitting, swaying on his feet as a new wave of pain shoots through him. He only manages to stay upright with Dynamo pressed to his sides, gritting his teeth until they hurt.
But he's pissed, so no amount of pain can stop him from making poor decisions. He directs his glare back at Ain, trying to look stern and not woozy.]
The data doesn't lie, idiot. I'll deal with it myself, so back off.
[He shoves Ain aside, takes two steps and then promptly falls face first on the floor.]
no subject
Lovely!]
Making an ass of yourself before you even get there, I see.
[Although, he does appreciate Add's unique brand of overprotectiveness... and at least he can put his shirt down now and pretend that there were never hands there in the first place! (Ain voice: this will haunt me for the next 3-5 business days.)
He leans down and pokes Add in the back of the head. Helping.]
You're the one who's on the floor right now, so why don't you let me take you somewhere better for resting, hm~?
no subject
He stays like that for a minute. It takes about that long for him to figure out what Ain just said to him, anyway.]
I'm fine. I'll get there myself. [and he tries to draw in Dynamo, like maybe they can still lift him back up and he can retain his dignity... but it's getting harder to focus, and even his ever-loyal drones might be on Ain's side here. He can only get as far as wedging them under his body so he's not collapsing completely onto the floor.] Just... just give me a minute.
no subject
[Sigh... Ain stands up properly, stretches his arms overhead, and hoists Add up into a bridal carry. Hi, hello! Thank you dragon blessings for his strength boon, now he can pick up this metal-filled jock and carry him outta here. Dachie is in-tow barking the entire time.]
I'm taking you to where I currently live. Just don't ooze out of my arms, okay?
[And assuming that Add tolerates this, or at least is too dead to the world to protest, Ain will cart him aaaaaaall the way to the other side of the Grove, past the inn, to the bakery proper. It's a bit of a chore opening the front door, then getting past the bunnies and opening the "residents only" door in the back that leads to the upstairs, but once that's all done...
He will be walked upstairs, past a row of rooms that comprise the living space, and to a small living room with a single couch.
Get plopped on the couch, idiot.]
no subject
He manages to grab Ain by his stupid little cravat, but it's a bit too late to stop him. So he's just gonna yank it and scowl and hiss through his teeth and assure himself that it's the poison that's making his face red right now, and definitely not anything else. Yeah.]
Drop me and I'll break your knees. [please appreciate how hard he is trying to sound intimidating while being carried by Ain's twink ass
Anyway... he still yelps when he's dropped onto the couch. The world is spinning, he's falling, this whole trip has been a blur... it takes another minute to be certain that he has stopped moving, and to figure out where Ain went. It's disorienting, frustrating, he hates feeling so weak...]
... sure this shithole isn't an Abyss? [At least he's given up on trying to move. It's already taking too much effort to stay focused. He blocks out the light with a hand, dynamos settling into the gaps around his body as he resigns himself to his fate.] Ugh, don't tell me... if this takes another week to pass, just kill me now...
no subject
Sigh.
Maybe he'll steal away into Flamebringer's room. Steal his cats. That'll make Add chill, right? This is the ongoing debate, but honestly Add is too sick to hang out with cats probably, so he instead nudges his friend's legs aside and sits at the far end of the couch.]
Pretty sure. Haha, but I've gotten the flu twice while being here, so maybe it is~.
[Helpful as ever.]
Unfortunately, I can't fix that venom, so you're gonna have to ride it out. In exchange for a few "thank yous", I'm willing to wait on you hand and foot until you're better! This is a one-time offer, and you're never getting another one.
no subject
Should've sat on the other side tbhHe does still have the awareness to make a face at Ain's offer, though.]
Eugh.
Dynamo... re-calibrate and reduce synchronization to twenty percent.
[The drones emit a string of beeps, then arrange themselves more neatly off to the side... it's gonna take a few minutes to adjust to the mind-rending poison affecting their server, but why would he need Ain to do anything for him when that's Dynamo's job, huh???
Aside from any tasks that might need thumbs, which is a lot of them... but is it worth his pride? Absolutely not. He will die on this hill.]
no subject
Ain does not mind being used as a footrest for once in his life, especially because this gives him the opportunity to re-check the wound just to make sure. Mmm... doesn't look that bad, but he'll attempt another cursory poison-removal heal (that will not work) just in case.]
Wow! Good luck getting up on your own to find food and water, then~.
[Dachie, who is sitting Very Good off to the side, looks at Add with his big ol eyes and then trundles off into the next room. When he comes back, he's dragging a blanket behind him, which he helpfully throws over Add's stomach in a heap like!! helping!!]
...oh, if you hear any noises while you're here, I do have housemates. Try to be on your best behaviour, okay?
no subject
[Confident, despite the circumstances. It makes him think of... before joining the El Search Party, when it was just him and his dynamos. Travelling hundreds of years into the future left his body unprepared for modern illnesses. He had no one else to rely on, no one who would even notice or care if he died out in the wilderness... when he did get sick, it felt like it could be the end. A lonely, terrifying blur.
A couple times, he woke up in strangers' homes. People who took pity on him. Thought he was just a stupid kid who went camping with a fever, or passed out on the way from another town... people who acted kind and selfless, but whose motives he couldn't determine. Made him feel vulnerable. Scared. At the first opportunity, he'd have to run. He couldn't risk it, finding out what they wanted from him, if they were planning to let him go at all.
He shivers, a small weight thrown onto his waist by... by someone? Something about... noises, housemates. The words wobble in his mind, like everything is made of jelly. Right, there... there's housemates, so he should plan around that. Getting caught would escalate things. He can't get caught. Has to play his cards carefully, or...]
... 'll be quiet. How... how many are there?
no subject
[Hm... mood drop clocked, but he assumes that's due to the poison more than anything. As he sits there sort of idly drawing circles into Add's leg and staring out the window ahead, not paying much mind to anything other than the relative, snake-free peace... he has an internal debate with himself.
Does he tell Add. About his entire love life.
...
It's going to be really hard to explain why Ezell is kissing him on the mouth if Add sees it, and he doesn't say anything in forewarning. But also. But ALSO.
...
Hoo. Okay.]
Two people. One is Mr. Demon, [please Add be better than Ain, do not call Flamebringer demon it's a slur,] who lives in the room on the righthand side of the hallway we just came down. The room on the top lefthand side is mine, and the one on the bottom left is Ezell's. [Oh, that's a name.] ...Ezell is my boyfriend, and Mr. Demon is his fiancé.
[what]
You can stay here, though! It's better than sleeping alone at the inn, right? And I'm not in Ezell's bed every night anyway~. [this is leaving out 3/4ths of the boyfriends, too.]
no subject
he's saying... to stay. better than sleeping alone. he's in his boyfriend's bed...? what does that have to...
is. is he offering??]
T-that's fine, I'm not— not interested. Not interested, 've got places to be... don't need any services, keep your hands to yourself...
[... it's a little hard to tell, what with the intense fever of divine wrath and all, but his face is extremely red and he's getting unusually antsy. the only thing keeping him from jumping up and trying to run is the fact that he can barely move.]
breathes a sigh. no one read this tag.
Okay. You know. Ain should be nice here, Add is clearly suffering from poison and fatigue and probably shell-shocked about the location change and the lack of party members. He should not tease Add! It would be mean! Anyway Ain is not thinking any of this.
He continues to draw little circles into his good pal/worstie's leg, leaning back against the couch and smirking.]
Mr. Ancient, if I wanted to give you head, don't you think I would've been a little more forward by now?
[He is NOT beating the town whore allegations.]
Haha, your face is red~. Don't worry, I won't put my hands on you unless you ask nicely and say "please", okay?
👀
... snake bite. Something about a snake bite, and... and he passed out? Yeah, that part makes sense. He was bitten by something, and he's been hearing crazy shit all day. A dream makes a hell of a lot more sense than this.
And now he's thinking about Ain, and... he is not immediately opposed to this direction.
...
Not that he's interested. He's definitely not interested, because there's no way Ain feels that way about him. Yeah.]
... wouldn't say that. Jackass. Don't... don't fuck with me. [if this is one of the dream demons messing with him he's gonna be pissed]
no subject
and also the rest of the party but let's focus on the important bits herewhat do You think.]Aww, but we always mess with each other~.
[That's their MO! Well, more recently they've been relatively normal — more often than not it's usually Elsword and Add fighting — but still. They would not be Them without the occasional playful banter.
That blanket is still a heap on him, though. Dachie is not a very good nurse. Worry not, Ain will take the opportunity to actually unfurl it and properly lay it over Add, leaning over into his space to pull it up to his shoulders for him. There. This is what you do for sick humans right??]
I'm not messing with you, though. You're poisoned, and I promise I'm not gonna do anything, so try to calm down. Even someone like you is capable of that, right?
[is he tho... Is he.]
More seriously, I don't want anything worse to happen to you while you're stuck here. Let me take care of you, okay?
no subject
but he doesn't get to mumble any weird responses to that, because now he's getting tucked in and oough the tiniest movements still hurt he can't do anything to fight this... Ain is leaning in too close and speaking so softly. Still up in the air what parts of this are real and what parts are a dream, but... Ain does take care of everyone, and everyone includes Add.
He trusts Ain, not that he'd ever admit it out loud. Way too embarrassing.]
... you're here, so I'll be fine. [jk he doesn't know what the FUCK he's saying the fever is winning] Wouldn't let any...anything happen. Jus' like... with that cultist...
You... you'd 'member me if I died, right? You'd miss me? [the way he sounds genuinely concerned about this question is probably disturbing, your man is fucked up rn he's getting existential]
no subject
It's not cuddling if you don't physically lay on top of him, after all.]
You're not going to die, Mr. Ancient. [Let's get that out of the way first.] And even if you did, I would go personally fight that False God in the woods to get you back.
[Maybe he should actually just lay on him, this position hurts his spine, and his wings are folded back against the couch... Yeah, second readjustment incoming before Ain wholesale flops his head down onto his friend's stomach and looks up at him from there. Add is too delirious to say no to his hugs right now anyway it's fine. Is this taking advantage of him, yes absolutely, but he shouldn't be friends with Ain if he doesn't want random hugs obviously.
(This is ostensibly not a hug.)]
I remembered you and missed you while you weren't even here. It's nice to have you here with me again.
no subject
And now Ain is laying on top of him. Cool. He can be normal about this.
It's hard to stay focused enough to come up with a response... but. He's been out for a long time, is that it? Ain missed him... and. And Ain got hurt. He remembers that part. It's easier to focus in on that than to think about why he keeps staring at Ain's face. His expression sours, turning to face the back of the couch instead.]
... hafta keep you out of trouble. Since no one else is. Tch.
[He can't help but feel like it's his fault, somehow. Even in the mental haze, he can remember that mark on Ain's waist clearly.]
I won't allow it. Next time...
no subject
This is not a conversation for while Add is dying on his couch and likely won't remember this entire discussion, though.]
Wow~. My knight in shining armour~. [You know what he will do, though, is be a little shit as usual.] Are you going to stick by my side to make sure I don't wander off and get eaten by some strange creature? It means you're going to have to stay in my room with me, haha.
[okay laying it on a little thick there, whore]
no subject
[His eyes lose focus again, not a hint of sarcasm in his tone. It's unusual for him to be so candid... but he's not thinking straight, and in this moment all he can think about is that his friend got hurt, and it shouldn't have happened.
It's not the first time, either. He's been careless before.]
I should've been there... 's my fault.
no subject
What, were you going to take the hit for me? [He'll be serious too, then.] Do you know how devastated I'd be if I had to watch you die in front of me?
[He is Laying On Add... and he is going to readjust for the third time, moving his body up before laying back on top of him again so he can attempt to look him in the eyes. It's hard to do that when he's using his stomach as a pillow, okay.]
I don't want anything to happen to you either. And there was... nothing anybody could've done.
no subject
He's intentionally not looking Ain in the eyes anymore... but this position is still fine, even if he's sore as hell underneath. For a guy who hates being touched he sure is relaxed like this.]
... 'sides, 'm easier to put back together. You don't have Nasod tech. Queen could do it.
Instability from high El energy concentration, no Nasod framework in place... too messy... high chance of incompatibility... [he starts mumbling technobabble to himself. Sorry Ain but you'd make a terrible Nasod, you can't use this excuse on yourself as a counter. Add would be fine if he got chopped because he'd just get a new lower half but you can't do that. Check and mate.]
no subject
[(affectionate) (but oh my god)
He does not say "I couldn't put you back together I'd be the one healing your dumb ass", and he also does not bring up that the labrat nerds could also glue Add back together. God, he cannot give this man any dumb ideas.
He flops his cheek over onto Add's chest and sighs.]
Don't make me put you back together any time soon, alright? You'll make me cry~ you wouldn't like me if I cried~.
[Ain has never cried in front of this man in his life so have fun imagining that.]
no subject
[... he's still mumbling to himself. Might be plotting out how he might reconstruct Ain as a half-Nasod. You know. If the worst came to pass.
Actually, wouldn't that be even better? Ain as a half-Nasod... replace the ripped-out torso with metal and wires fused with flesh... a beautiful core he can hold in his hands... his hand wanders, tugging out from the gap in the couch to find the side of Ain's face, tracing over his ear, his cheekbones, twirling in his hair...]
Kukukuku... you're more beautiful this way, don't cry...
