sunyonce???? written around the 1st of the month after he's had a days rest

Hello, my friends, both new and old. I wish to ask if there is anyone who is associated with the Sun who would be willing to join in to summon Lady Beiwe - enough to speak with her, as we once did our Lady Ourania. I am not familiar enough with Sun-based magic as I am with Moon-based, and catalyst of those more inclined towards her or similar magic to act as cornerstones will work better toward stabilizing the connection.

Of course, even though not Sun associated are welcome to join! The more hands, the more bodies the summoning has to anchor too! I would like to do it ere the weather turns further and the sun weakens in the sky, and preferably do it when the Sun is highest, around noon-time.

Please let me know your interest!

My my, so many questions.

Perhaps I'll start with blot, a topic in and of itself. It's essentially magical waste that accrues with constant magic use. It's not recommended to use magic without a focus called a magestone, - which I do have on my person - else you accumulate much more blot than you would without it. Blot goes away with self-care. So, good rest, eating well, etcetera.

While supposedly rare, a physical side effect of excess blot is Overblotting. A mage can become consumed by blot and enter a sort of beserker mode. They are quite powerful like this, given they're not in their right mind and are going all out with their magic without any care for the repercussions. If not treated in time, it could be fatal; the mage in question becomes a seedbed for an Overblot Phantom - a creature of pure blot - that is created in the interim.

This normally doesn't occur often. Decades have passed without any overblot scares. Or at least it shouldn't have, but it's occurred to quite a few students at my arcane academy. We've stopped them all, and they're all safe, for the record.

[ Don't worry, Jade is definitely amused by all of this musing about his own magic system. ]

Blot is fine in small amounts, especially if you have a magic pen with a magestone like I do. When the pen runs out of ink, it also uses the blot I accumulate to write, outside of acting like a wand/focus of sorts. Naturally, you don't want to stress or overexert yourself too badly in normal cases, either. Too much blot, and you could get sick; it's just a part of life. With enough practice, you can use even more magic, with low blot cost. It's part of why I attend my college.

As for Overblot Phantoms, they're malignant creatures of pure blot and negative energy, with a one-track mind geared toward destruction. They're not ones to be reasoned with, especially after the poor mage in question withers away. They may be called phantoms, but they're very much tangible.

Unfortunately, I can't say there's too much correlation between the pen and how the spells are cast. We don't "write" anything out in the air unless specific spells call for it. But there are certainly spells that require particular gestures, and each mage has their own way of producing magic. As for crumbling, that certainly sounds quite unpleasant- it's good that there are other arcane academies out there that teach such things.

Of course- I'd be happy to demonstrate a few magics for you; I'd love to see how yours works in return.

Certainly. We have a variety of classes we take at my college, ranging from Potionology, Alchemy, the History of Magic, Flight, etc. We primarily use elemental and cosmic magic for combat training as well. It's not unheard of to make your own magic- your only limit is your creativity, after all. Not to mention, each mage eventually figures out their own signature spell- sort of an innate magic that a mage has a natural knack for. Also, I'm glad you got better, I assume.

[ Jade, please. ]

That sounds wonderful- I'll have to peruse it in the near future.
