netbook - early mid month
[there's a new handwriting on the notebook. Scratchy and with a tendency to slowly tilt down the page]
Hello folks! Name's Whippoorwill, but just Will is fine- I just arrived with a few others and wow, you all seem to be having a bit of a weather issue, huh?
I did some digging around though, since if this is going to be a long term tourist I'd rather not have my tail freeze right off! Sniffing around your library I found some records that suggest these kinds of winters happen every hundred years or so. Part natural weather shifts and magical backlog is my guess, but either way there were a few suggestions for things to try and ease it off. Emotional expressions even it out some. Giving up memories or items you have an emotional investment in could help too- make sure not to burn anything too close to your house or you'll get warm for the rest of your life.
Blood sacrifice too, is an option. Speaking of, anyone got some chickens or goats they don't mind losing?

Are we certain animals will work?

And as sure as I am of anything some very horny occultist wrote a hundred years ago, yeah. Said human sacrifice would be faster but, of course we aren't doing that.
no subject
We definitely aren't. If animal sacrifice works well enough, it shouldn't be too hard to find some animal, even during winter.

There's a barn here filled with animals — but they're owned, and I think Kiera would take issue with someone going in and slaughtering animals, regardless of the purpose. That, and some of the "chickens" in there belong to Wolfwood. I'd hate to see you on the other end of his gun, so don't touch those.
Usually there are strange deer that wander the woods here — multiple legs, too many eyes, two heads, the works. Those may work better.

And yeah, that was my next thought if no one had any stock to spare. Catching something out there live will be a right bitch, but doable if a couple blokes are willing to help.

How does one give up a memory or emotion?

[Then, immediately following the more legitimate questions, Stan lets the intrusive thoughts win.]
ALSO WHAT'S WITH YOUR NAME? DID YOUR PARENTS HATE YOU OR WHAT

[he pauses, then after:]
I meant the emotions part. Bird names are a family tradition, but my brother was like, 12 when he picked it out so I can give him some slack for the mouthful

OH! RIGHT THERE'S A BIRD CALLED THAT HAHA. IT'S NOT WHIP POOR WILL
[He's pretty sure a 12-year-old boy isn't thinking of a bird either, but eh. It makes for a funny story at least?]
ANYWAY I'M STAN PINES - I'M STANLEY AND MY TWIN BROTHER'S STANFORD SO I KNOW ALL ABOUT DUMB NAMES

Then again, sacrifice implies giving away something that would be missed...

I've been thinking about the sacrifice thing and actually, it sounds a lot like how sacrifices worked in one of the last worlds I was dragged into. Deerington had a "system" where you could ask for things OR alleviate death symptoms by offering up a sacrifice. Usually it had to be things meaningful to you for it to work.
I have a few items that I've been hanging onto over the years that I just got back from Ydalir. I'll report back with whatever happens.
