TDM 001

INTO THE WOODS
WAKE UP

Whatever you remember last, something interrupts - be it a fight, a test, a walk, or death itself. All you can recall is a childlike voice (or was it voices?) asking, "Do you want to play with me?" before everything stopped. Your eyelids feel heavy, and the surrounding air is chilled. When you wake up, you and the others find yourselves standing in a makeshift plaza on a foggy morning. In the very center is a well. The water within is cold and clear as can be.

Surrounding the clearing is a ring of what looks to be the foundations of buildings never finished, save for two rather large ones and a smaller one. Only the small building has any light shining from the windows. One is labeled as an inn but has no name, and the other is an imposing, large manor with a red dog quietly scratching at the door. Given the indents on the wood, he's been at it for a very long time. Beyond the buildings is the start of a forest, though it quickly fills up with a fog so thick you can't see through it at all.

The smaller building is simply signed as a general store. A thick figure stands in the doorway, layered in brown and dark red cloaks that cover most of his body, save for brown worker's gloves and his pants. Two blue lights shine from the shadows where his face would be, and they shift as they watch you... before he turns around and takes his seat at the counter of the store. It's open, but he doesn't seem too thrilled.

There's a gap in the fog in the south east corner of it all, and you can hear the flow of water if approached. Trying to force your way through the fog lets you move forward four feet before you hit an invisible wall, while trying to go up- be it flight or climbing- sees you thwarted twenty feet above the canopy with a similar experience. Those above will see only the tree tops and a dense, heavy fog, and a cloudy, cold sun-lit sky. Through your explorations, you can find the start of a gate almost opposite across the clearing of the river, with a somehow familiar sign hanging from it:

Welcome to Aldric's Grove.

THE INN

The inn is just as empty as the rest of the grove, save for the shopkeeper. Four rooms on the first floor are locked, and won't budge even under force, and their keys are missing from the clerk's counter. On the bright side, there are remaining keys, free to claim - keys to the store rooms, too. The kitchen is large, as one might expect from an inn, but the kitchenware seems a touch out of date, by anyone's standards. The pantry has enough to feed the lot of you for a time, fresh food and vegetables and dried or cured meats, alongside spices and herbs. One could bake if they were so inclined.

There's a lounge room as well, just before the stairs. All the furniture was pushed to the wall for what can be presumed to be cleaning, if the empty bucket and dry mop is anything to go by. In the center of the far wall is an empty fireplace, but there's no firewood to be found.

Upstairs are more rooms, accessible only with keys. It's not perfect, but it's at least a place to stay. There's a bed for two, a small table by the window, a dresser and closet, a very small stove and a private bathroom to each, but everything seems bare... at a glance.

The worst of it is that you know the layout. You've been here before- or... no, that can't be right. Surely you would remember a place like this. Right?

THE RIVER

"What you take from the river, you must return." That's what the Shopkeeper says, if you stop by the store before going to the river.

The water rushing over rocks can be heard even from the distance of the grove itself, but upon approach it only seems louder. From what can be seen, the fog has only receded enough to grant access to 30 yards of the river and it's matching banks- after that, only fog and unusually thick bramble patches remain and block off passage on land or water. At it's deepest, the water is four feet deep and the current seems gentle. Fish can be seen swimming through the water, and objects glitter beneath the sand and mud.

Along the riverbanks, scales, small bones and teeth and strange coins marked with canines litter the ground. Keen eyes will note that some of the bones and teeth are that of animals, and some are that of humans. Some, however, are impossible to identify.

Stepping into the water feels relaxing. It's cold yet inviting. The fish swirl around your ankles before darting away, and just for a moment, everything seems like it will be okay.

On the other hand, when trying to cut through the brambles, there's a low rumble from the surrounding woods. Persist, and a vine coils around your ankle, dragging you into the water. That feels less relaxing, most likely.

PLAY TIME

At some point, there's an unusual sound- earth moving on it's own, old trees parting from their nesting place and rearranging themselves behind the fog. And as the din dies down, the fog parts, showing a thick tunnel of trees and leaves. It might look like something out of a fairy tale, if not for the sickening noises of the bark and wood creaking and writhing slowly. Whether you want to go or not, however, you will find yourself compelled to walk down the road eventually.

The road seems like a brief fifteen minute hike and a near three hour trek at the same time, but when you come to the end, you find yourself still in the woods, still circled by fog, but not the same as the grove. Once enough people are there, the path closes behind you. Keen eyes may spot hollowed out logs, trees with holes beneath the roots or high up above the branches, and large patches of very tall grass. Within the center is a cage with a pinecone shaped button on two opposing sides. Before you can finish taking it all in, however, a soft, cheerful whisper of a voice speaks:

"Let's play! If you win, I'll give you something special. Promise! Here, I'll explain the rules:"

1. Robbers must hide within the arena, and not get caught. Upon being found by the jailer, they have the opportunity to flee. But if they get caught, they get brought to jail.

2. Prisoners cannot free themselves, but free players can by pushing both of the buttons on the cage. This will give everyone a three minute immunity to run and hide again.

3. Players must move every five minutes, or they get caught immediately.

"The game will end if everyone gets caught or if at least one person stays free at the end of the hour."

The voice doesn't elaborate what happens if everyone gets caught- if you lose. Instead, it's jailer steps forward from the shadows, staring at everyone with a featureless face. It resembles a moose-faced centaur made of rusted metal and wood, yet what should be creaky, slow steps are light and agile. You have five minutes to hide. But when it bursts into a run, searching forcefully through grass, leaving cracks in the earth beneath its hooves as it starts to run, there's an unsettling feeling in your stomach: what happens if you get caught at all?

In order to win as a group, 10 threads featuring a successful escape- be it from the monster or from the cage- must be submitted by the end of the month. You may only submit one thread per character, but two characters can use the same thread. If you want to get caught and suffer consequences, or try to fight the monster, please use the "FIGHT OR FLIGHT" comment beneath the submission toplevel. Should the characters win the game, they will get a prize after all submissions have been accounted for!

SPARK NOTES
A general welcome to Aldric's Grove! The shopkeeper has witnessed your arrival and seems... resigned. Rusty is trying very hard to get inside the manor. Otherwise, everything seems eerily still.

A cursory glance at the inn! It's bare, barely furnished yet stocked enough to provide shelter and food. Several doors are locked and won't budge. But you know it. You know this place.

The river is only barely accesible, though opportnity to try and explore anyways is possible. Bone fragments, scales and teeth from all sorts of species, including humans, litter the banks alongside canine-decorated medalions, and something glitters beneath the sand in the river itself. While in the water, there's an unnaturally soothing feeling.

The forest opens up a path through the fog to invite people to play with it. Once they reach the next clearing, the path closes behind everyone and a disembodied voice announces that we're playing cops and robbers. The cop is a large moose-faced centaur statue made of rusty metal and wood, and it packs one hell of a punch. Don't get caught!

Welcome to the very first TDM and Event of Sticks and Bones! This TDM is game canon. Questions may be asked below or on the faq, and everything may be revisted with bonus ac items as time goes on. Applications are now open, and all TDM threads will count for AC and Bonus AC.

❖ Rusty has a bed to lay on on the porch! Izuku should be so proud of himself.
❖ A portion of the arena of the game- alongside the hiding spots in that area- are on fire, or destroyed by fire. Kjell forgot they were in the forest when fleeing the jailer.
❖ One of the cutting boards in the inn kitchen is cleaved in half, and the counter has deep gouges in it. Yor was cutting bread.

❖ option i. upon arrival

[ Hearing a voice interrupting him in the midst of things - especially one that's childlike is strangely not something unfamiliar for Shinpei.

Not that he'd - or anyone else, really - would say that's a good thing.

So when he opens his eyes and sees what seems to be an unfamiliar place in spite of gut instincts screaming at him otherwise, he knows that he has to figure things out.

He's alone- at least, in the sense of familiar faces- Ushio's not here, at least not as far as he's aware, but...

    ...He expected that.

Guess it's time to search and find something - whether it be any sort of clue, information, or other living people.

At the inn, Shinpei decides to check what we've got here: the fact that there's a good amount of food here is well enough, and while he does apologize at first, people might actually see him keeping stock of how much food's left before actually opting to try and make something to eat. This man did not go to culinary school for nothing, after all.

Which is why people might smell his cooking wafting in the air and if anybody walks in, he'll smile (or at least, try to) and offer: ]

Do you want some? I made enough for a few people, at least.

❖ option ii. into the woods.

[ And then there's the compulsion to go to the woods, later on.

A game, huh... That doesn't sound too bad, if his instincts weren't telling him to be on edge. Immediately, he's already taking a mental step back and trying to process the rules in his head he realizes that there are several ways to win this.

At the very start, he says, trying to hide just how unsettled he feels deep down in his bones: ]

I might have a winning strategy. But this might require at least one more person to cooperate with us. If you don't agree with it we can always figure something else out.

[ But might as well attempt to win, right? ]

❖ option wildcard.

[ Want to play something else with Shinpei? He's coming in from near the end of the series, so if you want to avoid spoilers, let me know! I'm willing to do investigations and other closed starters if asked and feel free to contact me over on [plurk.com profile] tsundereban or PM if you need to plot further. ]

Izuku Midoriya | My Hero Academia

[personal profile] defendure 2023-04-06 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Wake up.
A. Initial.
[ Izuku comes to with a start. It feels like he zoned out in class - only he hadn't been in class. He'd been doing something very vital, and now he's suddenly somewhere else with a childish request lingering in his ears. He can't say the voice sounded familiar - Izuku's mind wanted to hear it as any of the kids he knew, but that just wasn't the case. He staggers a few steps, not exactly injured so much as entirely confused. He's dressed in his hero uniform, which stands out a little bit...but probably some other people here aren't wearing just casual clothes, too. Or modern clothes. There's a variety, likely.

He looks a little messed up, sure, but it's nothing he can't walk off and looks more like he's been in some kind of fight. Though when he walks it off, it's to fetch up against the well, leaning against it as he catches his breath. Just a while ago it was getting harder to get oxygen, so he can't say he doesn't appreciate the breather even though he isn't so sure it isn't coming at a huge cost. Izuku looks around, trying to figure out if it's an illusion or what - and ends up looking straight at someone else. ]

Oh - ! [ He startles, straightening up and stopping his leaning against the well as if he's unsure if he needs to defend himself or what. The atmosphere doesn't exactly lead to a lack of paranoia, nor does what he just came from - but Izuku is inherently someone who tries to see the best in people and give them chances, so as he probably doesn't recognize most people here...he looks cautiously curious. And completely confused. ] Are you, uh - ? [ It's clear he has no idea how to end the sentence, ending up just letting it trail off into nothing. He reaches up to the tattered cape at his neck, now more something like a scarf, and bites his lip. ]

B. Fog.
[ While there's definitely an invisible wall Izuku isn't scared off with running into it just once. There's a decided "Ow!" in the fog when it first happens as he doesn't make a habit of walking around with his hands held out in front of him - but then he's doing that as he slides around the "wall" he can't see, trying to figure out the boundary of it. How tall is this thing? He's on the shorter side in his class, but it's definitely taller than his hands can reach naturally - and when his feet lift up off the ground as he activates Float, Izuku can't immediately find an upper boundary. ]

Ah - weird - [ But it's not like invisible stuff is something he has no experience with. It's just that usually it's a person. ]
2. Inn.
A. Kitchen.
[ One could bake, but Izuku doesn't consider himself any great baker. Instead, he's simply standing in the kitchen going through the pantry as he mutters to himself and notes down what's inside in his notebook. Just trying to see where they're at. It looks like more than enough and obviously the Shopkeeper seems to know how to get more Stuff, but that isn't any reason not to have a good idea what's there...and also, it just makes him feel better to have something substantial to observe and analyze. He's dead tired on his feet but can't shut his brain off so pointless busywork is keeping him from going crazy. ]

B. Keys.
[ Izuku tentatively claims a key and discovers which room it opens after some trial and error. He'll keep the key on him, but he leaves the door open once he's inside, sitting on the bed and looking around in a sort of dazed way. He doesn't really have anything to change into right now, but maybe he should clean up...? Do they have enough rooms for everyone? He doesn't jolt when someone walks by the room or pauses at the door, but instead seems to refocus and jog himself out of whatever thoughts were wandering through his mind and on his lips, just barely subvocal. ]

Ah - I think there's room for multiple people in here...I mean, at least one more. I don't mind? [ He's too nice for his own good every day of his life. ]
3. River.
A. Warning.
[ The cryptic warning has Izuku frazzled. Mostly because it's...very vague? Super vague? He's concerned? Extremely concerned? ]

Do you think that if we take fish from the river, we have to return them? Can we just not fish? [ He's anxiety spiraling about the fish, yeah, even though he's standing ankle-deep in the water, watching them play about in the shallows. It definitely means just return the bones as per the FAQ, but Izuku's overthinking things like he is occasionally prone to doing. ]

B. Vines.
[ A vine coils around your ankle - and then a whip of black energy coils around your waist as someone behind you yelps, trying to drag you back up out of the water. It's only a few seconds before Izuku reaches the person to replace his Blackwhip, a hand gripping yours or an arm around your torso as he makes sure you're above water and can breathe. ]

Whoa - !
4. Play Time.
[ Technically releasing the prisoners is kind of dangerous. After all, that makes you get out of the open into a specific area...but it also extends the liklihood that the group as a whole can win when more players are freed into the mix. The centaur has to capture all of them - but they only need at least one person free to win. Izuku thinks, anyway - it sounds like the other option is certainly their lose condition. So he's keeping an eye on the prison, and once there's people in it...

Well, he COULD maybe press both buttons using his abilities, but Izuku feels like that might not be allowed. Also, he doesn't want to overuse his Quirk right now. So he hand signals to another player who seems to be considering freeing the captured as well. ]

Go for it? [ He mouths, pointing to the side nearest him. ] On three?
5. Wild.

Elsword (Genesis Route) | Elsword

[personal profile] simplicitas 2023-04-06 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
i. flying around
[Normally, he's able to fly much higher. His thought had merely been "if I can't go forward, I'll go up", but the twenty-foot high invisible ceiling is in the way of that. Elsword looks much like a fly repeatedly slamming into glass. Bonk, bonk, bonk... and when there's no give whatsoever, he's simply resigned to scout from this height.

...unfortunately, it's not a great angle. To feel the wind under his six wings, he has to fly some several feet below the upper limits, perhaps fifteen to seventeen feet off the ground. This has consequences for anybody below him who might be bowled over by wingbeats or have items knocked from their hands by the force. At the very least, he'll mess up your hair as he passes overhead. How dare he.

There isn't too much he can see from this height other than the tops of buildings, and so Elsword chooses to land, finally, finding nothing of significance. He lands... and he accidentally slaps you in the face with a wing, having misjudged how narrow the space is. While those wings of his feel more like condensed magic than feathers, they still hurt on impact; Elsword, having the presence of mind to realise he just bitch-slapped you, wheels around immediately to check on you.]

Sorry.

[His voice is flat, nearly emotionless... but he means that "sorry", for what it's worth.]

ii. an amnesiac yells at the woods
[You may or may not have been here to witness Elsword absolutely obliterating a moose-monster during the game of cops and robbers. You may or may not have been the person he saved from it, too. But no matter if you were playing the game or not, one thing is certain: Elsword is just as unhappy with the forest as it is with him.]

You would damn the world over losing a game! A world that has nothing to do with you!

[...Normally, he doesn't get mad. Due to Certain Circumstances in his life, he can't feel most emotions, and he can't even remember his own name or most of his life — so to piss him off and make colour return to his voice is something of a good thing. At the same time, the guy is quite literally out here shrieking at trees. Give and take.

He thrashes against a vine coiling around his wrist, glowering down at it, and the damn thing grips. It's as if the forest wants to keep him here, just outside the edge of the arena. He, of course, is not having this.

Luckily, if helping isn't of interest to you, you can just watch the weird man scream at trees all day. It's free theatre.]

Yor Forger | Spy x Family

[personal profile] bethorns 2023-04-06 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Wake up.
[ So. So...Yor has no idea what is actually going on here. Like, at all. This isn't a really unusual thing for her. She's often a little bit lost as to what's happening around her and she's often playing catch-up or just following the lead of people around her...but that doesn't seem to be an immediate option here. That is to say, no one she's used to following the lead of has shown up yet and so she's like ??? at the situation and the people. Trying to decide what happened very quickly has her mind going down completely random and unrelated paths, so she just Gives The Fuck Up on understanding what's up. Someone else can figure that out!

So instead she's poking around. Looking for anyone she does know, yes, but also just kind of trying to see what there is to see. While she has no idea what happened that doesn't mean she can't get the lay of the land! Though the fog wall is ??? getting her even more obviously confused. She'll actually come careening out of the fog like she ricocheted off of it because that's what happened: she tried to kick it down. So she slids back through the dirt, eyes narrowed with a little frown on her face...she's, uh, not dressed the part of someone who should be trying to kick down anything, by the way. Yor is in "adorable housewife mode" although as she stands up her expression is more "somewhat intimidating mode". ]

That didn't work... [ She felt? An upper limit too? But couldn't punch through it?????? Why do all her plans involve punching things...anyway. She spots someone else, so! ] What if I give you a boost? [ Let her throw you at the fog wall. :) It's probably safe. :) ]
2. Inn.
A. Kitchen.
[ Quick, someone stop her. Yor is in the kitchen, and getting out...a little bit of everything? Because, well, she wants to make something delicious, so putting in anything that looks delicious should do it! Which is to say she's a Lethal Chef and if you want to survive and not waste ingredients perhaps you should stop her? Though she looks happy about it, humming as she pulls things out. And she...seems like she thinks she knows what she's doing, until you realize how much she's pulling out and how little anything goes together. Whoops. ]

B. Tea.
[ A much safer thing to accept from Yor is...tea. She bought two tins from the shop because she has Priorities (her priorities are...likely different from anyone else's but it's fine, maybe) and now she can happily offer: ]

Would you like some tea? I have black and chamomile. [ She feels very useful when offering to make tea, okay. ]

C. Cleaning.
[ She'll transform the empty bucket into a full bucket through the awe-inspiring magic of walking outside with it and hauling water from the well. After that amazing feat, Yor takes the mop and begins to clean the inn to her standards. Top to bottom. This means she might burst into your room in cleaning mode, though she looks flustered at intruding. ]

Oh, sorry! I'm doing a full clean...do you mind if I do in here too? [ If you say no she will politely go away. It's fine. ]

D. Rooms.
[ Yor takes a key for her own, having some issues finding the correct room before finally hitting upon it...but when it comes to sharing, it's a bit difficult. If another woman comes by she's happy to let them set up shop and will offer a friendly: "Oh, the bed can definitely fit two!". But if it's a man... ]

Sorry, I'm a married woman. It wouldn't be right to share a room with you. [ It's a fake marriage but she takes it extremely seriously. ]
3. River.
A. Fishing.
[ She doesn't have a fishing rod but this isn't even a distant concern to Yor? She's doing that thing where you stand in the water - she did take her heeled boots off, and they're sitting neatly on the shore - and then dart out your hands to just...grab a fish out of the water. Only she's grabbing more than one fish at once. Without missing. Apparently she's far too into it...though hopefully someone else will do the cooking of these? ]

B. Vines.
[ Yor is too fast on her feet to get caught up by a vine, but if she sees anyone else having trouble with it...she'll POUNCE like some demon cat woman and sever the vine with her fingers in one quick jab???? You know. Like a normal wife would do, or something. This is sadly her trying to be normal. ]

Got it! [ ...Should she explain it beyond that? Uh. ]
4. Play Time.
A. Playing.
Robbers...are we robbing something? [ Yor whispers to someone nearby as the rules are explained, getting a little bit confused but hey, she's got some kind of spirit. ] I've been getting a lot better at team games of late!

[ That may be an overstatement but she sure will try. You can find Yor running around as a distraction, jumping around the trees, potentially freeing people from the cages with teamwork, or, uh, swinging down out of a branch to snag your character and toss them up. ]

You're almost at the time mark! [ Move, move, move! She's at least taking it very seriously? ]

B. Eye spy.
[ Following an intense distraction battle, Yor is fighting without the benefit of much of her eyesight. Which...doesn't seem to be slowing her down too much. She's just, you know, got a very big grimace on and she doesn't seem to be having a good time focusing on stuff. Eventually she actually pulls her headband down over her eyes and tries to focus on other things.

If you don't want this during the game, she can be found post game drinking some tea downstairs at the inn... ]
5. Wild.
[ If you want to throw something else at me feel free. If you'd like to do an investigation together, pm me and we can discuss! ]

wake up;
[Waking up standing is a bit new - usually they just wake up collapsed on whatever flat surface was nearest, but they suppose strangeness is expected when a child asks you to play. They're not so sure any of the people in the plaza are that child. (Children? It's hard to say, but it's not something they're going to worry about. Really, they're not worried about anything just yet.)

They stretch, yawning, before rolling their shoulders and shaking their head. Everything seems to be in one piece, as far as they can tell. No dulled senses, nothing beyond the niggling familiarity - but that's a sensation they're more then used to by now. With their little mental check, they turn to observe their new companions.]

Hey there. Don't reckon you're the one that wanted to play with me, huh?

[Their voice is light, cheerful. They're really not all that concerned about how unsettling this place is.]

inn;
[At least there's shelter - it's far better then having to deal with the elements, and the keys are easy to find. Hyacinth only pockets a key for a room, deciding that someone else can look over the rest. They don't even bother trying to four unmovable doors, choosing to see what their new lodging is like before they move to the lounge.

They take the broom, staring at the bucket for a moment before crouching down next to it. They tap the rim of the bucket, humming. If someone walks in on them, they turn to them and gesture with the broom.]

Should we try to finish up the cleanin'? Not that I've found any soap yet.

[There's not a whole lot of... stuff, here, and they were distracted by the mop.]

by the river;
[Hyacinth kicks off their shoes and socks, rolls up their pantlegs, and steps into the river without even thinking about. The water is cool, and it's nice to just take a moment to relax. They've been spending too much time in cities, lately... They find themselves not wanting to leave the water, so eventually they decide it's fine if they're clothes get wet, and take a seat in a shallow spot. Their feet stick in front of them, but they don't pay much attention to the fish or the trinkets and bones.

Their gaze is trained on the brambles, and it looks like they're... waiting for something. Someone, maybe, because when they hear someone approach they turn to greet them with a nod.]

Be careful where ya step.

[They don't expand on the warning - it's enough, and Hyacinth isn't about to tell anyone what to do. If they get dragged into the river by the vines that's on them.]

[the options are endless...! or if you want to hash out an investigation or do something else, just let me know.]

i. wake up

[At some point after trying to investigate the manor with a new friend, Aerith finally gets around to exploring the settlement. She doesn't seem at all bothered by the situation she's found herself in, flitting from one place to another with open curiosity and cheerful waves to anyone she happens upon.

Eventually, she'll wind up at the gap in the fog - and subsequently, when she tries to explore further, its wall. She'll give it a big puuuuush, but, well. Everyone knows how that one goes.

She'll pout at it a little bit, wander around near the gap... and then tilt her head in consideration when she glances at a tree.

That works!

When you find her, she'll be rocking her heels at the base of the tree, but almost immediately turn and give a big grin if she hears somebody's footsteps padding along the forested floor. (Maybe even if you're a more quiet sort...? Weird.)]

Hi there! Will you help give me a boost? I wanna climb this tree!

ii. the inn

[During a moment when no one watches her, Aerith frowns more deeply and thoughtfully than she has all day, softly tugging at her hair.

She... shouldn't remember this building. Not even from...

...

No, it's not something she should think about now. Whether it's turning to whoever else is nearby or going to another room to find somebody, Aerith will seek out the nearest person. Her cheer is back in place like it never left.]

Well, it's not in the best shape, but we can still make this our home for now! Looks like somebody was cleaning in the lounge, so I can help finish up what they started... Or gather firewood, or find some flowers to brighten up the room, both of those should be done... Oh, but what do you want to do?

iii. the river

[Aerith's wiped out after all that tidying up! Time to take a breather at the river.

Maybe you went with her willingly... or maybe she insistently tugged you along by the wrist if you tried to refuse.

Regardless, once she's made it to the river bed she shucks off her thick boots and dips her feet in the water, laughing gleefully at the feeling as she holds her arms out as if for balance.]

Ah, this feels great! Come on, you should try it too!

[ you know how everyone else is waking up in the plaza, getting their bearings, noticing where they are and proceeding to either freak out about it or just accept it and go exploring? well... yeah. noctis is not. he's just seated somewhere in a patch of grass and flowers (it looks soft and comfortable, to his credit) leaning against the nearest wall or tree or whatever other upright object there is—

...peacefully asleep. ]

...

[ he doesn't even really seem to respond to the sound of voices or to footsteps walking closer. apparently, he's used to sleeping through that. please wake him, maybe? or try to steal from his pockets, idk, i'm not even your real mom! i can't tell you what to do. ]

( 02 ★ town exploration )
A.

[ whatever the circumstances it happens in, he's awake eventually and has been wandering about for a bit, here and there without any real aim. perhaps at some point, as your character stumbles upon the gate at the far end, they find noctis just walking out from the other side of it. when he spots them, he pauses for a second, before casting an unsure glance at the sign he's just finished studying. in the end, he seems to decide there's no harm in it, so: ]

"Welcome to Aldric's Grove."

[ he quotes out the text casually, for your character's benefit, sparing them the effort of getting closer to do it themselves. for some reason though, noctis runs a hand through the back of his hair with some apprehension, before: ]

Ever heard of it? Not somewhere I remember seeing on a map...

[ but admittedly, he hadn't been too familiar with a lot of the world, so embarrassing or not, he does need to ask. ]

B.

[ a little later, back at the inn, he's doing what probably everyone else is also doing, which is looking around at his leisure to see what he can find. in the pantry, the first cupboard he happens to open has him making a face near immediately, and reacting with none too much enthusiasm. ]

Seriously...? Beans?

[ don't mind his discouraged tone, on par with if the worst calamity ever had just descended upon the... wherever this is. he opens the next one over too, with a foreboding sense of dread that apparently seems justified, because whatever he finds in there doesn't please him any better than his first discovery has. he's just about lost all his enthusiasm for looking around by this point, but still... a flicker of hope yet remains, given the room is quite large. so he turns listlessly to whoever is doing the other half at the moment. ]

Ugh, no way. Tell me you've found something that's not a veggie...

C.

[ or perhaps even later, in the hallway upstairs, with whoever happens to be around at the same time, checking things out. noctis has the key to one room twirling idly on his finger, as he plays with it mostly by reflex while he contemplates something. if the person with him seems just as hesitant, or maybe they're looking at him or seem like they might be checking things out too: ]

Do you think there's gonna be enough for all of us? I mean, they're all probably good for two people, but with strangers it's kind of...

[ a mumble he doesn't care to finish entirely, but pretty sure the cause of his hesitation has gotten through by now. ]

( 03 ★ the river )
A.

[ later on, drawn to the sound of the water, noctis is bound to stumble upon the river just like everyone else. he takes a few looks at the objects lying around, the weirder ones especially catching his eye. if someone just as idle or friendly enough is nearby, he might lift a particularly sharp fang from the ground, holding it up into what meager daylight they get through the fog. it's longer than one of his fingers, at the very least, and has an odd glint. ]

Woah. Look at the size of this thing.

[ he sounds impressed, even though he probably shouldn't be. until another thought occurs, at least. ]

I guess... I can't make any promises, but if we can find more like it, I might be able to use them for something. Uh, maybe. If I can get some more stuff together.

B.

[ or maybe with different timing, he's checking out the vines that are blocking the way along the banks. without much thought to it, he holds out his arm and in something like the blink of an eye, a sword materializes in his hand bit by bit with a trickle of blue light. he takes a couple of expert slashes through the bramble, hacking away at it... at least, until: ]

Wha—

[ the word is lost in a blink of confusion as he looks down, and then a panicked, undignified yelp as he gets swept from the ground and yanked through the air by his ankle, before the coiling vine responsible for it throws him with a splash into the water. unfortunately, his grip on the sword is lost in the process somewhere, and the weapon lands on the riverbank, enough distance away that he probably can't reach it without help. ]

My— Can you get my sword!?

[ he shouts back through the racket at whoever's around, while wrestling with the vine that seems intent to pull him further and drag him underwater. ]

C.

[ or perhaps you just see him after he's calmed down from the above, when he's found what he deems a good spot on the riverbank, a little taller than the rest, on top of a large rock. he's barefoot, his boots drying out right beside him, next to his jacket. his pants and t-shirt are still soaked and sticking to his body, and his hair looks like a mess thanks to the unintentional dive he took earlier. but for the time being, he looks quite content with what he's got.

which is a fishing rod in one hand, distinctly different from the ones that might be found for sale at the store. as well as a couple fish he's already caught, laid out beside him on the other half of the rock. yes, he's drenched and likely to catch a cold, but have you considered: fishing is important.

as he's quick to prove if approached, because he only spares a quick glance and a quiet: ]

Hold on. Got a really big one lurking in there, don't wanna lose him.

( 04 ★ play time )
[ all too quickly, the playing field becomes a mess. there are players running around everywhere, to varying degrees of success as everyone needs to keep shuffling their spots every five minutes. the creature supposed to be the "jailer", whatever the hell it is, isn't difficult to keep track of considering the racket it makes -- but avoiding it constantly is a whole different business. it's bound to stumble upon someone sooner or later... and this is exactly what noctis is watching for after he's managed to find his way into the nearest tree.

doesn't matter how the person stumbled. maybe they twisted their ankle while running, or tripped on grass or on one of the cracks in the earth -- or maybe the creature did something that toppled them. what matters is he spots someone on the ground, the menacing bulk of the monster they've been trying to evade looming over them.

and then there's the flash of a sword, lodging itself into the ground right in front of them, between them and the pursuer. you could swear it was only the sword, except in the very next moment the figure of a black-haired youth is crouching down on one knee where it had been lodged, surrounded in fading sparks of blue light, and the weapon itself is lifted up in his hands to parry a blow. ]

You okay!?

[ he asks through gritted teeth from the effort, bracing himself right before the clang of metal on metal resounds as the creature strikes the blade. it hits hard. honestly harder than noctis expected, and he can barely hold the contact for a second before rolling away, tumbling onto one shoulder to come back up in a safer spot. a mere breath later, the creature's sharp-tipped leg sinks into the ground with enough force to pound a small crater into it, cracks spreading out from the surface. for better or worse though, noctis seems unharmed -- and this also brings him closer to the person he's been trying to save, winning them a precious second. ]

C'mon. We've got to move, just grab onto me!

[ tl;dr prompt for if you want noctis to successfully save your character from the jailer, per his dice roll. ]

( 05 ★ wild card! )
( feel free to hit me up with literally anything else and i'll roll with it, i'm easy. if you'd like a custom starter from me, want to do an investigation with noctis, want to be roommates, or think we could plot anything else out together, pm me and i'd be happy to help come up with ideas! )

i.
[ He should have thoguht no. He should have thought no!!! but he's weak against games, and in his heart of hearts Akki knew he was doomed from the start.

The only way to cope with being doomed is to find somewhere nice and stay there, so that's why Akki eventually finds himself at the river, shoes and socks set neatly off on a large rock at the shore, wading into the water up to his knees.

He's started a little collection of teeth from presumably different animals drying on the shore too, every once in a while pulling out his cell phone and snapping a picture of a particularly large or sharp tooth. But mostly he's just sort of mindlessly searching and sorting them. It's zen. ]

ii.
[ Not zen: wanting to see what's on the other side of the shore and instead getting hauled upside down by the ankles and hurled back into the water and screaming your head off all the while. ]

iii.
[ Okay. Okay okay okay. We're going to ignore his dismal performance during the game, and instead focus on not dying. The smell of blood makes Akki's stomach turn, the sight of gore, the palpable pain and fear in the air. God, it's like he never left school. ]

I- I can help with that...

[ Just a quiet offer to anybody who's bleeding, whether it's tiny scrapes or literal guts spiling out of a wound. This offer would be a lot more reassuring if it didn't come from a boy covered in blood and actively bleeding himself, but... this is about the only thing he's good for, in the end. ]

1/ adrift

[ When he wakes, the air smells and feels like home; damp and leaf-litter, cossetting the body in a way where when compared, drier climes made him feel so much more exposed. It strikes a chord of terror in him-- I'm not ready, I can't face any of them yet-- until the sparse collection of buildings around them really sink in. It looks nothing like the architecture of his home.

His hackles are still raised, considering he came to this place with no inkling as to how, carried on by a very, ominous, call to action-- but such things DID tend to happen, when you played around with mysterious magical relics. He had kept looking into the mirror again and again, despite knowing it was dangerous, and now it seemed he was reaping what he had sown.

So, anyway. Here you are, who knows where, and a waifish, purple elf is wandering up to you to talk. ]

I venture you are not the one looking for a playmate.

2/ boing

[ Guess who tried to go up.

Rennuid had lifted the trailing edge of his robe, swept it around himself-- and like a drop of ink in water, billowed out from his physical self into a ripple of hazy purple mist. That dash of color had raced up high, aiming for a sturdy branch of a tree-- and promptly bounced off, hitting the barrier at breakneck speed.

Also at breakneck speed it rebounded to the earth, swept out like a pancake where it landed, then reformed into a very dizzy elf barely able to sit up. ]

Ohhhh....kayyyy..... I think that's enough creative problem solving for one day....

[A - The River]
[There's something small and pale in the water, slowly bobbing its way downstream like a weird boat. Upon closer inspection, it's a hat—stiff and white with a blue semi-transparent brim, plus a few metallic decorations to give it some weight. Cool, free river hat!!

... anyway, about a minute later something else comes trudging down the banks. Add looks soaked, muddy and miserable, but he is trying his best. The smile might be strained. He waves in a half-friendly, half-frantic sort of way.]

Excuse me! Yes, you! I believe that's mine! [if you didn't pick up the hat he's just going to assume you will, because that would be the nice thing to do, right?? if he has to chase it down the river he's gonna choose violence]

[B - Play Time]
[It sure as hell doesn't feel like he's winning when he's been running for his life nonstop. Doesn't this monster have anyone else to chase? Hello?? Someone draw aggro for the healer, please??

It's fine, because he glides down into the brush again to find... a friend! What luck! Add smiles through his exhaustion, putting a hand on his new bestie's shoulder to gently pull them down into the bushes with him.]

Shh, don't move. It'll come through here any moment now.

[C - The Inn]
[After the "game" is over, Add parks himself in the inn's lounge to harass all of his "patients" on their way back. He sits in the comfiest chair, legs crossed, eyes locked on to a purple holoscreen by his hand.

Should you try to walk past without even saying hello—well, that's just rude, but so is blocking your way with a pair of hovering drones armed with syringes. You will see the doctor now, thank you.]

How are you feeling—tired, stressed, any physical pain or injuries? Lingering side effects, emotional trauma...? It's been a long day for everyone, so please, try to relax. This examination won't take long.

I | The River
[Perhaps one shouldn't be so calm in a new and unfamiliar place. But then again, perhaps being in a new and unfamiliar place was to be expected, when accepting an invitation to come play. The more difficult decision was where to explore first, though even that choice seemed to be made for them - the odd familiarity with the Inn, despite it being something New, meant it could be explored later, and the lack of currency for the shop was enough to send them to the riverbanks. If others arrived in a similar manner, perhaps things could be washing ashore...

Or perhaps things could already be in the river.

Anyone who might come across them will find a slight individual, sickly pale, and yet with their socks and shoes set neatly aside as they stand in the shallows, water swirling around their ankles as they examine - and set aside - certain things plucked from the sand and silt, placed in two neat little piles next to their shoes in a neat little row.

Shoes (and socks).

Coins, ostensibly for the shop.

Human ribs.

And should you decide to just back away from the sight, oops, too late, they'll glance up on hearing someone approach and offer a smile that's just this side of unsettling.]

Oh, hello!
II | The Inn
A | Pre-Playtime [Hand Body Horror]
[From a casual observation of the new collection of "forest playmates" it would appear as though there are more people than there are keys to private rooms... But there is also an array of locked doors that don't seem to be budging by rattling the handles or by knocking politely, so...

Why not just fashion a key, if the Inn itself won't provide one?

Anyone observing this little exploration will see Kjell peel off a glove, first, and then oh-so casually peel back their flesh as easily as they had peeled away the leather moments before. It wouldn't do to have all that getting in the way of making the bone malleable as they insert a finger - notably still mobile, somehow - into the lock of one of the closed doors, concentrating as they are, apparently, forming a key for themselves.

It's. Probably fine. Right?]

B | Post-Playtime
[So that fire in the play arena was sure something, huh? They're totally going to pretend like they had nothing to do with it (they had everything to do with it) as they tend to their suspicious burns and keep an eye out for anyone else who might be the worse for wear on the return trip.

Currently, they'll be perched on a large traveling trunk in the lounge room, just before the stairs, for the best possible people-observing position.

And if you just happen to be Going Through It? Well. Sorry about it.]

Ah, excuse me, I can't help but notice you seem to be in need of a little assistance. Might I have a look?

satsuki minazuki | liar satsuki can see death

[personal profile] premonitory 2023-04-09 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
►wake up
[ Plenty of scenarios came to Minazuki Satsuki's mind. She'd grown light-headed from the fumes of the paint used to fool her, in addition to the amount of running she had done in a short period of time. She could have collapsed, dehydrated and exhausted from the entire ordeal that she'd been put through. There had to be a piece missing between speaking with Seo and the sound of a child's voice seemingly calling for her...

At least she wasn't alone in this? It seemed as if others had been picked up too, and some were just as confused as she was. Had she died? Was this the afterlife?

No, it didn't make sense. As hard as she had tried to prevent the previous death, exhaustion wouldn't have been enough to kill her if Seo was right there to help her. So then how... no, for the time being, her first option was to find a way to get back. Whether it's regaining consciousness or learning why she's there in the first place.

Which is why, as she goes to the inn and spots someone who might look as puzzled as she is, she immediately runs up. ]

Excuse me. Do you know if you were going to be killed before you got here?

[ Incredibly blunt and to the point--! ]

►river
[ Reaching the riverbank, Satsuki had began to search for any clues that'd get her back home, anything at all. Although, it certainly felt like there may be a reason for her showing up after all. While she hadn't particularly seen any premonitory corpses since arriving, she could still do her part as an observer. She was suddenly working as an investigator! If her friends could see her now... well, in one case, they'd see her sifting through the objects in the sand, and then carefully picking up some of the debris from the ground.

Very well could be hunting grounds for assorted animals? Obviously preying on other animals, but... potentially, humans as well?

Moments later, having decided that getting out of this area was the best option, Satsuki can be found literally standing in the river, socks and shoes in her hands with her eyes closed. When was the last time she ever felt this peaceful...? She feels like she could fall asleep like this. Even the idea she had in her head, potentially tripping and hitting her head on a rock or actually falling asleep and drowning, they started to fade away due to stress leaving her body.

    Why leave? ]

►game on
[ Satsuki didn't sign up for this...!

She knew there would be some kind of "game", but the moment that she saw the "centaur", she knew her life actually was in danger. Getting caught felt like it was much more costly than sitting in a cage...! So, she took to the first thing she could think of... which was climbing a tree and hiding, waiting for it to pass by. For the most part, it worked well... until, she failed to gain any purchase on a branch, and she started to slid down the tree, scraping her knee in the process. ]

    Damn it, no no no...!

[ If that thing came back, she'd be in trouble... for the time being, she grasps onto her knee and searches around for something to at least stop the bleeding for a second? She can't just give up her shirt or anything... or maybe, she could rip it? She winces in pain as she decides to stand up, resting against the tree and... hiding behind it for the time being while she brainstorms. There has to be something, otherwise she's going to get gored...! ]

waking up.

[ Ruby is seemingly unphased when she wakes up in a new location, her gaze completely hollowed out. Truthfully, as someone who has been building up her image in the industry as an idol, she figures that this was something that was bound to happen sooner or later.

What surprises her more than that, however...

Isn't the childlike voice who wants to play with her-

-not that she recognized it, but then again when you're trying to become famous, are you really going to know all the voices you meet? Of course not.

But the fact that she could move easily around and wasn't tied up or gagged or anything else? That was... odd.

Well, whatever. When she spots the first sign of life, Ruby beams, trying to keep a chipper act in spite of herself. ]

Excuuuuse me! Hi, I seem to be lost and I was wondering if maybe you might know where we are?

play time.

[ At some point in the game, Ruby isn't so lucky. She finds herself unable to escape...

...whatever that thing is. People might notice that when she's being carried away that Ruby is comically screaming. She knows the rules after all, so if she's loud and people can hear her, they can track her and free her.

Not that she has any hope for that. Why would people bother do something risky, after all?

So when she's in the cage, all her smiles drop and she's immediately frowning. ]

    ... This sucks.

[ She's just going to plop down and sit on the ground. If she's stuck here, she might as well not keep standing, after all. ]

THE RIVER
( where the fuck is aldric's grove?

it looks similar to a place you'd find in the living world, but there's also something about it that doesn't feel right. it's also fucking weird. he doesn't hold any interest in either the inn or the shop, so grimmjow has broken off from the rest of the newly awaken to venture out into the wild.

it isn't long before he chances upon the river — or what he can see of the river that isn't concealed by a persisting mist.

walking along the bank, his gaze drifts away from the running water to the small pieces of bones and glints of coin on the ground. he kicks at a small avian skull, sending it flying into a cluster of brambles up ahead. undeterred by some prickly shrubs, grimmjow starts to shove his way through, half a mind to simply blast a path forward through; but before that thought could manifest into reality, he feels something snake around his legs. he glances down to see vines crawling up his body, his brows immediately furrowing.
) What th— ( too late. they've tightened and have begun to drag him towards the river. falling face first, a growl rips forth from his throat as he reaches down to yank at the vine. it's futile though. the more he pulls at them, the harder they cling onto his legs. )

GET THE FUCK OFF OF M— ( and now he's in the water. great. great great GREAT. THIS WAS NOT HOW HIS DAY WAS SUPPOSED TO GO. #sendhelp )

PLAY TIME
( he doesn't know about anyone else, but the moment grimmjow lays eyes on the moosetaur, he's gonna fight it because it seems like an opportunity that shouldn't be missed. it's by no means a valiant effort to give the people around him a chance to run and hide. he's just thirsting for something to beat down, especially after his awful experience at the river. a drowned catte is never a happy catte.

coming out victorious, grimmjow is now in high spirits. he isn't too interested in playing the actual game, but since he has nothing better to do, he's going to check out who's been jailed and maaaybe consider letting them out — at least after he taunts them first.
)

Why should I let you out? You're the one who was dumb enough to get caught in the first place.

( alternatively, he might watch someone get cornered by the moosetaur and see what they do. don't expect him to lend a hand. )

𝗔 . WAKE UP

[ The soft baaing of a goat, murrmurss into her ear. Then she can feel something tugging at her hair, and she herself mumbles in response. Until all too suddenly, she juts out of her dazy stupor. Rising straight up, with lengths of her hair within the mouth of a Goat. ]

!!?!

[ A gasp - almost a shout had she not held in any noise that came from her lips. Afraid that something or someone would find her, and place her in immediate danger. However, as she glanced right and left attempting to place herself. She finds herself unable to, but she relaxes slightly when Cinnamon. The goat companion who she tasked herself to watch over, was gnawing at stands of her hair. A hand reaches to comfort the Goat, though in reality, she was grounding herself. Comforting herself, as got up onto her feet. Attempting to understand how she fell asleep so suddenly and woke up in the middle of a forest. When she was in Merctown, what felt like moments before. ]

Laurenthius..? Cormac...? H-Hello?

[ Immediately her mind starts to fumble around, and she attempts to cast the spell: Sending. In an attempt to contact anyone of them. To her dismay, the message did not send. Instead, expending all her energy, into sending each spell over and over again. Begging for anyone to answer her, to hear their voice, to know that they were all okay...

The lack of messages caused her to panic, and her mind began to fumble into an array of thoughts. There was a clash of needing to calm down and another of escalating panic. There were so many things that this could mean - but inevitably she began to come to the suspicion that perhaps she was in the FeyWilds. Self-convincing herself, despite her trembling hands. Immediately with that in mind, she began to run in a direction attempting to find something, someone, or anything to alleviate her issue now. Holding tight to the rope around the goat's neck, she begins rushing forward into the forest. Running... Running - ]

𝐁. INN ( A Bathroom )

[ At some point, and somehow... Caoimhe ends up wandering within the inn. Everything about it was so foreign to her, though the concept of houses that roomed travelers to stay was not something unknown to her. Merely that, she has never in her life had ever need to stay in one. The uniqueness of it, was interesting and soon enough she came to a strange smaller room within the inn. Where a strange white seat was located.

The goat Cinnamon was gnawing on a paper it found in the room. Whilst she was there staring deeply and intently into the toilet. ]

W-What is this... Is this how people drink water? A personal well for each room..? How interesting...

𝐂 . RIVER

[ A hand reaches to touch the brambles, and when she attempts to move through them. A rumbling occurs - immediately she jumps back and feels the way the forest seemingly grumbles at her actions. Caoimhe begins to apologize profusely. ]

I am so sorry! I... Did not realize you... Are more conscious than the forests I have wandered within... U-Uh... Hello? Would you perhaps like to talk to me?

[ There you see the red-haired girl, attempting to speak to the brambles and branches coiling in the corners. ]

𝐃 . PLAYTIME

[ Caoimhe did not realize how she had been coaxed into walking a certain area. Unfortunately, before she could realize it, it had been too late. Her eyes finally met the few that were around her. Before she could even speak though - a voice spoke over her and proclaimed forth a game for them all too plain. Her own eyes widen, realization setting in - truly, they must be somewhere within the Feywilds. ]

I - [ Her voice suddenly feels dry, but she swallows hard and her hands fling forward towards the unknown individual. ] I- I can cast invisibility, but you have to know it can only work for an hour or so, and if I can concentrate on it... You MUSN'T take any action that would break the spell - but you can. [ An excasperated noise, falls from her lips. ] You can hide - oh you must hide. Do not let the faefolk of the faewilds catch you. You do not know what they will do to you.

𝐄 . WILDCARD

( Id like for caoimhe to cast speak with plants eventually! if anyone is interested in an investigation like that. [plurk.com profile] witchcess Let me know if there is anything I can change or do, I am not the best at writing sometimes lmao! )

I. Nice C[A]tch
[ Have you ever seen a YoRHa unit fish before? No? Well, today, one easily can. By all appearances, a boy in black garb and a blindfold stakes out a spot along the riverbank, leans himself back, and a holographic seat props him up. How it supports his weight is a mystery, but that's not what matters.

With a wave of his hand, the machine hovering beside him jumps out through the air and into the water with a splash. A few moments later, it emerges with a sizable fish in the grip of its pronged hands, cheerfully beeping its success as it returns to 9S.

He inspects the fish, leaning one way and then the other to have a better look, and nods to himself. ]

Nice one, pod. Let's see what else they've got around here.

[ The machine beeps again, then off it goes. ]

II. Time for [B]ed
[ At the end of an eventful day, it's surely time to get some rest. There are only so many rooms, and at first glance, this one might just be unoccupied. Maybe.

Except of course there's a boy just sitting with his back to the wall beside the bed. He's utterly still, a box-like machine with hinged arms hovering beside him. It's an odd thing, when there's a bed right there next to him, and he appears to have dozed off right there instead.

In his grip is something that resembles a blindfold, yet he is also wearing one. ]

III. Playing Hot and [C]old
[ There's a funny little guy wandering around their small patch of the world, stopping every so often, and opening an array of holographic displays. For anyone close enough, there are a variety of measurements on display — the temperature, the beginnings of a map that looks quite unpleasant to read, the apparent time of day. Coordinates, however, are an indecipherable jumble.

Each time he pauses and turns his head in the direction of this useless information he frowns and waves the displays away again. The little grey box-like machine accompanything him follows him along, occasionally making a curious noise as they wander along. ]
