Netbook | Some Minor Concerns

Hi! I'm Steph. The whole magic notebook thing is really cute. :)

I'm fresh off the boat, had to get around some super creepy goop to get here, saw several people with animal parts. No offense to said people, but that's a little unusual where I come from.

I figure I've been kidnapped, drugged, or both. I don't really like any of those options, so if there's a 4th, less sucky possibility I'd love to hear about it!

Also: the goop was really gross and creeped me out a lot, what's up with that?

It's nice to meet you. You may refer to me as Passenger. I run the cafe to the southeast of the inn, near the river, though I don't recommend going there right now.

I am one of the aforementioned "animal-people". I would avoid using those terms too much, as we have several people here who are more than likely to go on the defensive... rather, we have ONE person here who will go on the defensive and be liable to physically attack you.

(I do understand that many of us are quite the oddity, however, and take no offense to it.)

I couldn't think of another way to describe it, sorry. This whole morning has had kind of a 'drug-induced hallucination' vibe, you know? Maybe a 'different planet' vibe, since up is still up and down is still down. But like, you don't see this kind of stuff in Gotham.

It's a big city so you don't see this much nature either but that's not the point.

Technically, I would say this is a different planet. I'm from somewhere called Terra, specifically Ibut of the Sargon region.

I'm from a planet called Earth. Gotham City, in the state of New Jersey.

Ah, I have heard of Earth before. We have a few people from that planet, last I knew anyhow.

I'm assuming it's quite the large city, if you aren't used to seeing nature in your backyard, yes?

I live in the suburbs so we've got, like, trees. But once you get downtown it's basically nothing but Gotham Central Park.

That makes sense. Very urban, then.

You won't find much of that here. No vehicles, cell phones don't work properly, that sort of thing. We have a few pieces of technology here, but they have no connectivity. I'm sure you've already noticed.

I noticed that, yeah... I guess that would make things too easy. I guess you guys have magic instead though?

This is correct. Many of us are in possession of it. We Terrans call them "Arts", but we merely use different words to describe the same thing.

I do imagine that you'll find it hard to adjust here, but know that many people here are kindly and willing to help you. There is a powered television in the therapy office with games, but you should ask Mizuki to use it first, as it belongs to him. It's a bit difficult to explain why it works to anyone not familiar with the source that powers it (known as Originium), but it is something to do.

Oh, cool... does it make electricity or does it just do magic Arts stuff? We have video games where I'm from too.

It's difficult to explain. Processed Originium is a power source, but it's more like a battery, in simple terms. It does not produce electricity, at least not in regard to the TV and Mizuki's game systems.

Producing electricity is something I can do with my Arts (though "lightning" may be a far better descriptor), but it is not to power something. I suppose it could... though it would require me to be a constant source 24/7, which is more likely to kill me.

I don't know nearly enough about electronics to get the difference, but it's really cool that you made the same thing out of completely different stuff. It seems like people really are mostly the same wherever you go, huh?

I don't know the details but I think if you tried to power anything that uses Earth electricity with actual lightning it would explode? So maybe don't test that theory.
