May Family Meeting

Who: All y'all, everyone, the whole shebang, etc
What: Town Hall / Family Meeting
When: End of May
Where: Magic Lamp Cafe
Warnings: Typical Stix game warnings: Child death mentions, torture, body horror. More will be in post titles as they come up.

At some point after Passenger's cafe is finished being built and set up, he decides to coordinate with Enciodes to get a family meeting going, since it's been a bit. This time, a change of scenery is in order, so it'll be at the Magic Lamp — which has a surprising lack of magic lamps, RIP. It has normal booths with a Sargonian flare, but also the centre of the cafe sports ground seating, as does the back deck — the back doors have been propped open to allow the people sitting inside to converse with those sitting outside. For most of the meeting, Passenger will be behind the counter making a number of Sargonian dishes and coffees for anyone who wants some; just flag him down and he'll bring you whatever it is. He is listening, he swears.

Meanwhile, Enciodes will give the recap of the usual information, and from there, the meeting can begin.

Reincarnation and Our Past Lives
Our lives as we currently know it, while it did happen, are because we've originated here at the Grove in a past life. Some sort of ritual was meant to save our souls, thought we physically didn't survive. For the most part, it seems our personalities from our past life carried over somewhat, but overall, it doesn't seem like learning about them in detail provides any information on how to get back to our current home or how to best the creature.

The Residents
The Shopkeeper and the Trader — They lost their names to the forest, so their new names are Heimr and Ydalir. With this in mind, do not give the forest your name. They cannot be referred to by their old names, but Heimr used to be the person in charge of the Grove and Ydalir his sister. Heimr recently became human; maybe there's a way to get Ydalir to be the same?

The Guardians — the Guardians we can currently seek out within the Grove are Zahliya, the Guardian of the Grove and our small gargoyle friend; Moder, the large moose-like creature and Guardian of the Forest; Sinann, and the River Guardian, who appears as a large flare-fin fish. Treat them respectfully and give them offerings if you require their assistance or plan to take anything that is theirs. There are more guardians outside of the Grove. They're akin to... demigods, in a sense of the word. Moder and Sinann used to be corrupted, though on their deaths seemed to have been cleansed of this corruption. Though, going forward, killing the Guardians to purify them may prove detrimental. We simply got lucky with the first two. They were strong enough to revive. If we try again, we might not have this luck.

The Lake Guardian, Callan, is currently corrupted. The Sky Guardian is said to be long-dead by Moder herself.

The Gods — Beiwe, the Goddess of the Sun, and Ourania, the Goddess of the Moon, are the current overseers. According to Moder, they are very weak and may need some help regaining their strength through prayer and acts of devotion. We likely have the power to help them return to their former strength.. We just need to figure out how.

Purification, Zahliya, and the Corruption
Zahliya is able to purify things with some sort of holy magic. However, his purification is not as strong as it needs to be to fully purify something of corruption. As such, it's in our best interest to figure out how to do this so we can use this ability to cleanse other Guardians and residents in the future, like Nene. If you know of anything that might be helpful, but don't think it's a good idea for the creature in the forest to know, ask any corrupted person to leave first. They may be on our side, but their corruption lends to the forest being able to listen in anyway.

We've found shards of the sun, the moon, and know of Ydalir's star shards. They seem to be manifestations of holy magic, considering that this world reveres the sun and moon deities. We've given Zahliya the sun shard in hopes it'll help him purify things. So far, it seems to be going well, though it seems like there needs to be something a bit stronger to help.

Belief and the "magic" of this world
Belief in something gives it power. Names give it power. As such, refrain from giving the forest/the creature/the entity a true "name" of any kind. It's recommended to swap out the vague reference you use. Vice versa for our Guardians — please use their names, and believe in them intrinsically when we require their assistance. Mizuki has recommended before that we sing to Zahliya when he purifies things. Songs of protection and such might do us some good, I think. Just remember not to wish for things too frequently, only if it's absolutely necessary.

Forest Entity
It considers us toys. When it gets bored, which so far has been every handful of weeks or so, it will play games with us of some kind, as you may have noticed with prior events. They seem to vary in intensity. Residents were trapped inside a volcano and meant to get to the top before else risk burning alive… and it also seems to know what our absolute worst fears are, respectively. It will get in your head. Don't give it that opportunity.

Moder and Zahliya both have suggested to never call it a god, but to refer to it as either the "False God" or "the Creature". Moder has also previously called it "The Fallen Sun". It does possess a great deal of power, somehow, and referring to it in a derogatory sense might weaken it. Finding the source of its power may be vital, as it is a chaotic nature with a child-like, sadistic personality, which is a deadly combination.

Places of interest
Aldric's Manor is a place where Heimr's kids are currently. We can't get to it, but the children inside do have a notebook, and we hope they'll try to communicate with us. One of his children… There's a grave outside for her. Do not do anything disrespectful by it.

There's a part of the forest where you might find people you know, but as trees. It's… very upsetting there. Refrain from visiting it too frequently.

The Garden is where you'll end up if you die. Nene brings you back if you do end up here. Do not die. Do not end up here. Coming back will have you giving up something important.

The River is where the River Guardian is. Return any remains of the fish we eat from there back to it after we're able to fish there again. Thank the River Guardian when you take apples from the tree nearby there, and thank Moder when you take berries from the bush near it. Do not take bones from the river without permission. Be kind to the river's inhabitants, and don't dump any trash into the water.

The Well's water will always stay clean. Don't go dumping garbage into it, of course, but know that the water there is safe to drink regardless of what happens, it seems. Also, the well is completely bottomless, so if you can't breathe underwater, I don't recommend trying to swim down it. Mizuki tried to, but at a certain point it felt like something was pushing him back.

The Burnt Part of Town and Other Expansions — The Grove, prior to stuff going awry, was a sizeable place, so we're likely to explore more areas as a "reward" for participating in games. For the people who weren't here, it seems to have been "frozen in time". Which also means any corpses that were in there haven't been fully decomposed or anything, so be wary of that. Please also look out for the sink holes at that part of town — it's quite dangerous there.

The Church was Nene's previous home, and a former place of worship for Beiwe. It has since been worn down and transformed into something to worship the Creature.

The Temple is separate from the Church. Zahliya was formerly a statue guarding this place. It is also where the Creature was previously contained.

There are other places within the forest and such, but if you want specifics, talk to Mizuki. He has a map.

If you do end up going into the forest, bring a pair of the golden spectacles that Heimr has with you. They will show you a safe-adjacent way into the forest. It won't guarantee safety, but it'll be your best case scenario.

Returning home
Not outside the realm of possibility, but currently unable to. The creature in the forest needs to be dealt with first, as even if we find a way home, it can likely just bring us back.

The shards
Mizuki has the moon shard, and has since apparently swallowed it, giving him the ability to stop the corruption. Likely, the moon shard itself has calming, healing, and soothing properties. The sun shard is able to burn corruption away. Not as much is known about it, but we can likely ask Ydalir about it, and the star shards, if needed.

The Lighthouse
In the Lighthouse is a corrupted person who seems very territorial. It's recommended that no one go into the lighthouse or get near it, or they risk being attacked or even killed.

That- what'shisname, Affogato? I dunno the history but it looked bad, dude.

Ah... there was some... tension, I suppose. But I believe we ended in a productive place. There is no need to worry.

[I DUNNO DC, IF THE PRODUCT YOU INTENDED WAS MAKING A GROWN MAN LOOK LIKE HE'S GONNA CRY AND ALSO KILL YOU MAYBE???]

... From an outsider's perspective, it really didn't look like it. He seemed really upset. And... frankly? A little scared of you.

Hm?

[The confusion is palpable, but his eyes do narrow with slight anger, though not aimed at Fel]

Scared? Perhaps that is for the best if he is. If it will keep his schemes in check.

... Please explain everything about this guy.

[He sighs]

I ... was hoping to avoid this. If he truly is attempting to be peaceful I would not want to soil his name unnecessarily.

I'm not asking as someone looking for a fight, I promise. But there's something weird about all of this and also literally you just said "it's good that he's afraid of me, then he'll behave".

[his face literally reads 'yes and?']

Very well. On Earthbread I am a King. Affogato Cookie was my retainer. My closest advisor... and betrayed me to an attempted assassination.

And now here he has spun a story that he was under magical control. A story contradicted by testimony from cookies I trust the word of. But... it is not completely impossible, so I decided to leave him be as long as he kept his distance from me and mine.

[ Of course PV is listening cause he's right there, and his expression has a thoughtful, pinched look.

Drat his ability to see the good in everyone and give everyone second chances because-]

( she's going to bop you, godking or not, punk. but she won't just yet. instead she listens. )

As someone who's been under someone's control before, it is possible. At the same time, it's hard to prove- especially without familiarity with the puppeteer. The evidence is stacked against him at this time.

... What was he talking to you about just now?
winterfrosting: (3)

[personal profile] winterfrosting 2024-05-28 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods. She gets it, good]

He has done as I asked, so I approached to thank him for the efforts- I was honestly not expecting it. He was... making very friendly overtures. That I was still his King even if I banished him.

[he sighs and it honestly is more... sad than anything]

But I can not trust him. I can not. If this is a ruse and he starts his plots here... then it is my fault because I allowed him free reign. I am responsible for him.

I did not deny him the chance to prove his worth, but I refuse to pretend we are allies again so easily. If this makes me cruel and cold then so be it- I am here to return us home, not play house.

[ I dunno Cacao, you've been playing house with Vanilla pretty hard]
amethystic: (074)

[personal profile] amethystic 2024-05-28 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
... Are you both on the same page about this, though? Something feels off.

Not counting the blatant mistrust. It is frankly understandable, even if I don't quite like how you're handling it. Would having a third party talk with him from now on be better for you? Like, you clearly don't trust him and it may paint things in a different light than what they really are.
winterfrosting: (20)

[personal profile] winterfrosting 2024-05-28 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[he blinks, and like when Mizuki suggested therapy for him and Vanilla he looks like it's something he not only didn't consider but is so outside his mental landscape she might as well just said the sky is green]

I... suppose that would not be an awful idea...

It might be best for both parties involved here. If he's afraid of you and you mistrust him, it leaves opportunity for misunderstandings- in times like this, that's dangerous.

[personal profile] winterfrosting 2024-05-28 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[Okay, he said it might be good that Affogato was intimidated of him, but something about someone else saying it makes him pause, frowning deeply.

He turns to look where he left Affogato, brows furrowed like he's seeing a math problem with letters for the first time]

... perhaps you have... a point.
amethystic: (050)

[personal profile] amethystic 2024-05-28 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I do.

( girl- )

... If we're right about that, though? An apology might be in order.
winterfrosting: (6)

[personal profile] winterfrosting 2024-05-28 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. I... yes, it would be.

[He keeps staring for a moment (to the point his target probably notices, sorry Affo) before turning back]

As for the puppeteer... I do have some experience with her. Her and her... Master. Which is why I know it is not... impossible that he is telling the truth.
amethystic: (049)

[personal profile] amethystic 2024-05-28 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
( oh- immediately her demeanor shifts, because she gets it. and she knows what she's about to say may be immensely upsetting. personally felicity would bite whoever tried prying into her own experiences! so rather than the pointed evenness, her tone seems much more gentle now. )

What can you tell me, if it's not too much to ask?
winterfrosting: (3)

[personal profile] winterfrosting 2024-05-28 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. I will try, though I do not remember much of it. First, I must explain... the power I and Pure Vanilla posses, in many ways it has a mind of it's own.

[Maybe more literally than he ever realized, hearing about the Beasts. but if he starts thinking about that his paranoia will never settle and he will lose what little rationale he can claim to still have. ]

It is both tied to our souls and part of the world we come from. It speaks to us with our own voices, to show us what we deny. My own... was silent for a very long time, only speaking to me again shortly before the confrontation with the witch Affogato claims to have bespelled him.

She, Pomegranate Cookie, attempted to cast a curse on me. One I know now is meant to pry your deepest fears and pain to the forefront. She did this to Vanilla as well, before.

But my Soul Jam is aligned with Resolution.

[Ah, so Stubbornness. Explains some of his... everything]

So it is not easily controlled. When my mind was attacked it lashed out. I lashed out. As a mad magical beast. It would take powerful and skilled magic to make the Soul Jam have to react so violently. And for a mortal cookie... they would have no chance against her.
amethystic: (100)

[personal profile] amethystic 2024-05-28 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
( oh that explains so much. )

I remember PV giving a piece of his to Ourania. Is he going to be okay? Even she seemed a bit upset by it.

...

But, thank you for telling me. Do you suspect that sort of power to be able to control someone in the way he claims?
winterfrosting: (17)

[personal profile] winterfrosting 2024-05-28 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I... do not know. We were not born with them- but... they are why we are so old.

[And for all his either coldness or stubborn confusion, when talking about this- about Pure Vanilla- his face is soft and adoring. And right now full of deep worry]

... do not tell him this. But when I walked into the seance I feared I would find nothing but aged crumbs.

[he shakes his head. No, no they were talking about Affogato]

As for the witch. I... can not say. If she could not I do not doubt her Master, Dark Enchantress Cookie, could. She commanded many monsters during the Dark Flour War. So much about this is unknown, I can not make an informed judgement.

[If his former friend could really control cookie minds, surely she would be using it on them before now, right? But also Affogato, his closest advisor who had the most access to him would be the ideal target for such a plot...

And no one proved such magic existed more than his own son. He knows this, at least.]

Yeah, let's be honest, it was a little more than alarming for him to just whip out something called a soul jam and break it.

( she sighs, and there's an underlying frustration there that she's not sure she has the right to feel. but also gramps is on thin ice too in a sense: she did say she'd curse the entire grove if he broke her heart too, after all.

but this isn't about that. felicity pensively listens, tapping a finger against the table softly. )

I see.

( she still kinda wants to smack him upside the head but he's been cooperative so. he lives. for now. )

I'm going to go talk to him now. If I'm going to make good on that offer, I need both sides of the story. I'll be careful though, promise.

You stay here and rest a bit, and think about what I've said, okay?

[personal profile] winterfrosting 2024-05-28 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Trust, he is also still kinda pissed at Vanilla. He gets it.

His brow pinches though when she mentions talking to Affogato]

...yes, please be careful. I... would not be able to face Pure Vanilla if you were hurt assisting me.
