EVENT & TDM 012

IT'S GONNA BE MAY
WAKE UP
You open your eyes, and with a jolt, find yourself within the clearing of a miniscule town surrounded by trees and thick, black fog. Despite the ominous backdrop, nature seems to be thriving — it’s a pleasantly chill spring day, as far as anyone can tell, and everything is vibrant and blooming… even some of the animals. At some point, a friendly old dog with red fur approaches, carrying a basket in his jaws. Inside are blackberries and apples other fruits. Did he find this himself? Or did someone give them to him to bring to new arrivals? Regardless, he very clearly hopes that you’ll share.

A giant golden brown turtle sits by a tent, napping in the sunlight. Two statues sit in the courtyard by an old well — a haloed woman marked as the Goddess of the Sun, Beiwe, and a gentle woman looking adoringly at her counterpart, marked as the Goddess of the Moon, Ourania. If you pay your respects, the air feels gentle and warm in the day, and like a fresh cool breeze at night.

As you explore more, perhaps the bloomed animals will approach — a mossy squirrel, or a frog who happens to also be a lilypad. It’s charming, almost. Whimsical and kind.

Shame that the wall of fog looms ever on, watching. Waiting.
SHINING, SHIMMERING, SPLENDID
cw: hallucinations, compulsions, near-death experiences

For a while, spring seems gentle, almost. Peaceful. The previous month may have been full of jokes, but things are actually safe. Of course, that can’t last forever. Every night, a purple, shimmering mist floods the town. It does not breach the doors and windows, even if left open, but looking at it is… enticing.

Should you give in, the mist is cool and gentle, swaying around you like smoke. The longer you stay in, the more your eyes feel blissfully heavy. Soon, you find yourself surrounded by loved ones, in a place that brings you joy — a childhood home, a vacation spot, some place warm and safe and dear to your heart. Everyone is playing and having so much fun. Join them! Join them!

Of course, by the time you do jump into the fun, you’ll find yourself awakened with a start, just about to fall into danger. Perhaps you climbed a tree and were about to leap to the ground from too high up. Or maybe you stuck your head in the river and your lungs were about to empty. Regardless, the happy dream shatters with imminent danger, and perhaps you’d better hope that someone else is nearby to help you. … Especially since with each night you give in, the more enticing the mist is the next night.
DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
At some point, the mist is forcibly dissipated and instead the moon shines brightly, almost like a spotlight. Investigation will reveal an absurdly large capybara that seems more like a vehicle than an animal, even with the jasmine flowers hanging off of it, siting down with the ‘door’ accessible to anyone willing to climb in.

“Come with me, and I will bring you to a night of festivities.” is all that it says when asked. And it knows that you will — you’re all curious as kittens, after all. Once the last person takes a fuzzy seat within the capybara, it slowly stands up and begins walking through the woods, and for the first time, everything seems peaceful. Normal, even. Why, there’s not even a monster or misshapen, grabby tree! Just a moonlit forest, and fireflies in the distance.

Eventually it brings you to a small but beautiful cabin, crouching down to let everyone out again. Outside is a layer of marble surrounded by pillars decorated with sheer fabrics and an abundance of lilies and calendula, jasmine and marigolds, hydrangeas and gladiolus. A buffet table has also been spread out, and within the cabin are changing rooms with a multitude of ornate gowns and suits, alongside sitting rooms and other potential necessities — though you get the feeling that you should still be on your best behavior here.

Gentle music plays from an unknown source. The capybara is resting, until it’s time to leave come sunrise. For one night, everything is at peace. You may as well enjoy it, and dance to your heart’s content.

WAKE UP
Welcome to Aldric's Grove! The fog wall is a little creepy, but worry not: A dog has brought you a snack, and the plant-bearing wildlife are pretty friendly. If you've been here for a while, no worry: You, too, are getting a basket of treats from the dog.

SHINING, SHIMMERING, SPLENDID
A purple mist fills the Grove at night, and stepping into it makes you experience a euphoric dream... shortly before you wake up because you nearly walked into death. Be careful, because the mists are addicting, and you may not have an easy time avoiding their temptation the following nights.

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
For one night, the mists clear up and peace settles over the forest. A giant capybara gleefully takes everyone to the site of a grand dance, where the clothing and food are all free, and the music swells with joy. Dance your hearts out until dawn breaks, and then the capybara will take you back home.

OOC
Happy May! This is a reminder that TDMs are game canon. Enjoy your dreams, enjoy your prom night, enjoy the capybara. OOC Plotting Lives Here if you'd like to plot anything out!

Hey!

[Oh he is getting grabbed. It's not that Dipper isn't accustomed to getting outright scruff, scooped, or lifted by the people in his life who are older and bigger than him, it's just- this is a poor time for him to get picked up like this.]

[Dipper is older, but he still only weighs as much as a handful of grapes. Wolfwood is actually somewhat successful trying to get a hold of him, but that is what Dipper needs to go ahead and use his powers.]

[So with a firm grip both ways, Dipper concentrates on Wolfwood to try and get access to whatever he's seeing. Surely this will not be awkward for both of them if he succeeds!!]

[Sorry Dipper! You've been scooped, even though Wolfwood has no idea he's even scooping you. But hey, at least it was enough to distract him from walking forwards into the river, at least for a moment.

With Dipper in his arms (kindof) and his path forward briefly stopped, Dipper will be able to use his powers to reach into Wolfwood's mind, to see what he's currently seeing. A massive desert landscape with an orphanage dotted at the edge of a sparse civilization, the sun beating down on the kids as they run around the courtyard, too excited to be outdoors to care about the heat.

So, how does this work, on Dipper's end? Is Wolfwood going to know he's here?]

[Dipper is 100% present there now, and Wolfwood can definitely see him, depending on how far away the dream might have dropped him. Perhaps Wolfwood felt a strange hiccup in the world around him when Dipper entered, or perhaps not.]

[Dipper will not waste time getting to what might look like the center of the dream. He starts heading towards the kids first, and then keeps his eye peeled for the taller man he was trying to keep out of the river.]

[This is a place Wolfwood returns to often in his mind, so if there is a hiccup, he does notice it. It’s only for a moment though, not long enough to snap him out of it, to realize he’s dreaming. Maybe he doesn’t want to think he is, just this once.

As Dipper heads for the courtyard of Hopeland, he’ll see a cluster of boys trying to get Wolfwood to play ball with them, prompting him to hold up a hand and shake his head as he gently lets them down. He will, however, kick their ball far across the yard so they can go chase after it, which gives him room to put down one of the children he’d picked up (in lieu of poor Dipper, his brain had to compensate).

What he will notice, of course, is a new face. He grew up here, he knows every man, woman, and child at this orphanage. So when he approaches and Wolfwood notices him, his brows slightly furrow.]

…you must be a new kid.

Yes.

[Perfect, excellent acting, Dipper, you're so good at this, yes, thank you he knows.]

And I ...uh. I need some help, could you follow me back this way?

[Rationally, he thinks he might need to wake this guy up entirely, but the very first order of business is to divert his path. If things are still translating to the real world, then movement back in the other direction is good.]

[Sorry Dipper, while he may be dreaming, that doesn't mean Wolfwood is gullible. He has no reason to distrust you, but you're a lot older than most of the kids here...and unfamiliar to him, to boot.

His gaze narrows, just slightly.]

Hang on. Help with what?
ghostharasser: Art by me! (180)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-05-30 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[WELP. Looks like he isn't going to get off totally easy here. That's fine, he can work with this. His answer is just about seamless enough to maybe not be made up. He turns a bit to point back towards the building.]

It's my sister, she got her braces stuck in screen door. I'm not allowed to pry her loose with the screw driver anymore so she sent me to get help.
lupusxylem: (71)

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-05-30 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Convincing, to be sure. And concerning, to be sure.

But Wolfwood still looks pensive as he ushers the kids to play nearby, watching them out of the corner of his eye.]

Oh yeah? And what were you kids doin' all the way over there? You're supposed to be outside with the rest right now.

[Were you doing Crimes]
ghostharasser: Art by me! (193)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-05-31 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
[That's a very good point, and Dipper opens his mouth and shuts it again, but luckily it's a very convincing reaction to being caught for crimes.]

Uhhh, about that...

[He makes a show of looking looking contrite. Rubs the back of his neck and everything.]

I didn't want to, so I tried to hole up and read a book. Mabel was trying to get me to come out when she ran into the door on accident.
lupusxylem: (73)

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-06-02 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Squinting.......

Wolfwood sighs, heavily. It seems Dipper's efforts have finally paid off, because it looks like he's going to relent.]

Alright, fine. Let's go get her before Miss Melanie sees you were foolin' around. Ya'll better be glad it's me helpin' out, she wouldn't let you off so nicely.
ghostharasser: Art by me! (239)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-06-13 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! Thanks man, I definitely owe you one.

[Especially once he gets him out of this dream since the best way he can think to do that is to manipulate it into being a nightmare. Once they're heading in the right direction, Dipper falls a step behind and concentrates.]

[These powers are actually really uncomfortable for him to use, for a few obvious reasons, but as he's told himself in the past, if he's gotta have them, he may as well use them for good.]

[Sorry wolfwood, but it really is for the best.]

[Wolfwood might notice the air around him start to shift, as they get closer. A weird feeling of dissociation, of reality getting ...wonky? It smooths out almost as as quick as it ruffled, leaving a disquieting feeling in the air.]

[Hm, there's suddenly an awful lot of smoke and fire pouring out of the windows now.]
lupusxylem: (34)

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-06-13 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not Dipper's fault for not knowing, of course, but Wolfwood has come just immediately off the heels of barely managing to save Hopeland from being crushed by a runaway Sand Steamer. That may be arguably more devastating than a fire, but it still sure does hit damn close to home. And for Wolfwood? This is probably not an uncommon dream-turned-nightmare as they approach the building and he realizes that's smoke.]

Hey- Hey!!

[He takes off at a sudden sprint, sending other children scrambling to get out of his way as he runs. A good portion of them are outside in the courtyard playing, but he knows that isn't all. It's never all.]

Get back! Shit, everybody get away from here! Miss Melanie-!
ghostharasser: <user name =seishirou> (151)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-06-24 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
[He knew it would be iffy trying to guess or navigate around a stranger's deep-seated fears and traumas. Unfortunately he can't be picky here, can he? He follows after him, a step or two behind.]

[It's a bad nightmare, he observes, but one he's probably had before so it's not enough to shock him awake. Okay, so that means he needs to make things scary and weird.]

Oh no, my sister-

[He's still playing his part for now, but he also falls back so he can focus more on the nightmare. What can he do to make this worse in just the right way... Ah, okay, let's go with that.]

[Wolfwood would find, upon entering the building not a girl with her braces stuck to the screen door, but a dark, gargantuan horse creature with ghostly eyes and sharp teeth. It screams at him with a howl like hell itself as opened.]

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-06-24 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, that sure is plenty enough to scare the shit out of someone right there.

Wolfwood sees the creature and reacts completely on instinct, his hand flying to his side to grab for his handgun. He doesn't have the Punisher, but it doesn't matter in this case. Since coming to the Grove, he's always made sure he's armed in some way.

And it seems that Dipper's plan works. Just as he raises his gun to fire a shot, the sound of the gun backfiring coincides with a flash of light that blinds them both, and just like that...wherever Wolfwood ended up in the Grove, he suddenly snaps awake, breathing heavily and staring wide eyed at the sky above.]
ghostharasser: Art by me! (193)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-06-24 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh god, he’s going to shoot his monster!sister. Like, he gets it, because he would do the same when confronted with something like that, but there’s a big part of him that immediately wants to get in the way, even though he conjured this.]

[the light flashes and Dipper is both disoriented and relieved, laying face down on the ground next to him.]

Dude.

[He rolls over. Hey, there’s a familiar looking kid.]

You’re finally awake, thank goodness.
lupusxylem: (65)

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-06-26 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[It takes Wolfwood another moment or two to readjust to being awake proper, but once he is...he'll actually sit up, and.

His gaze narrows.]

What...the fuck was that. Who the fuck are you!?

[Hi Dipper sorry Dipper he's like this-]
ghostharasser: Art by me! (209)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-06-26 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[You know.]

[He could be good and honest about what just happened and explain everything.]

I dunno man, you were sleep walking towards a river and I tried to stop you. Whatever you were dreaming about must have been pretty crazy.

[But he won’t.]

Name’s Dipper.

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-06-27 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah well!! Too bad he's been here long enough to know that was fucking weird what just happened, and also he's not stupid-]

And you just happened t'be there, huh??
ghostharasser: Art by me! (193)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-06-27 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hm. This guy seems a little unstable. He realizes that perhaps he might be in some trouble.]

[Dipper scoots back and gets to his feet, putting out his hands so Wolfwood can see them. He's going to try and seem nonthreatening, but. Well. Dipper does have a gun for a reason.]

I mean, it's a pretty small town and I know a sleepwalker when I see one, so I followed after you to make sure you didn't get hurt.

[That part isn't a lie, at least.]
lupusxylem: (9)

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-07-01 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That ain't what I meant! You were in the dream! Like, I saw you!

[Points at him as if Dipper wasn't very aware that he was, in fact, there-]
ghostharasser: (11)

[personal profile] ghostharasser 2024-07-07 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh boy. He did not realize how uh. How hair-trigger this guy was. He didn't seem like that in the dream, so maybe that nightmare really got to him. He is scrambling for what he should do.]

[He can keep trying to lie to him, he guesses, and see if he eventually buys it ...or he can try and explain and look even worse.]

Okay. Okay. I'll explain, but it's going to sound crazy and also you have to believe me when I tell you I really was trying to keep you from taking a dive in the river.

[Dipper motions vaguely in that direction, while keeping on hand out in front of him.]

You can probably find foot prints there and everything.
lupusxylem: (32)

[personal profile] lupusxylem 2024-07-10 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh Dipper I am so sorry for your poor introduction to Wolfwood because his life at the Orphanage was nothing like how he drags himself through life nowadays. He is much older, much more bitter, and much more suspicious of weird happenings, like what he just now witnessed.

His gaze narrows, and for a moment he considers getting up to look, but...no, better to keep asking questions.]

Okay, fine. But why did I see you in my dream?
